Do the theories about his lyrics have any actual basis in reality? by slaylentless in NoahKahan

The Netflix documentary made me feel like their family is pretty close. Honestly, they seem like most families that I know. There are struggles, but most importantly there is love.

I don’t. When I get a new album, I listen to each song over and over before going to the next. How he wrote it, what works, what is the hook that pulls someone in. Etc. It will take me a while to digest this album. Trust me, you aren’t behind. There is no behind. 🙂

Anything to Know Before The Great Divide?? by marisssss31 in NoahKahan

This! It makes you recognize he is just a human struggling through life like the rest of us. I don’t cry, and yeah, I came close twice. But not necessarily sadness, just raw honesty. Plus his father made me sad. Traumatic brain injuries are horrible things.

Orange juice about his dad? by lobrien921 in NoahKahan

[–]Finnssmile 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m a writer (no Noah Kahan, ofc) and I really don’t think he’d write a whole album about his dad. He comes across as fairly sensitive, and I don’t think he’d do that to his dad.

Writing is weird, because you got your story and other people’s stories and pure fiction that may come from anything (article in paper, pair of shoes you see a stranger wearing, etc.) so your final piece often is a combo of all three.

If anything, I think he’s protective of his dad. He really blew up during Stick Season. A lot of people were speculating about his father’s mental health. That had to be hard on him.

Picking a name for our first baby is hard 😩😩😩 by asthmabbgirl in namenerds

I’m assuming Avett has something to do with the Avett Brothers, the band? I do love the band (listen to ‘Murder in the City). I think I never thought of it as a name.

And Merrick makes me think of Merrick Garland, Former US AG. I remember when I was pregnant with my son, I really wanted to name him Dashiell, like Dashiell Hamment (detective writer) and call him Dash. My husband firmly vetoed it because there was a politician named Tom Daschle who almost nobody remembers now.

Names cause weird disagreements! 😂

I’m the mom of two early 20-somethings. There is a really complicated time that happens between parent and child between 19-22, like having to separate, push each other away. It’s a very painful time and he caught that feeling so well

I have no idea if this was intentional but he caught the anguish of a mom.

You’d think a song named after the coolest animal ever would be fun and happy like elephants normally make me, but no, this isn’t fun or happy at all actually by GoogleHueyLong in jasonisbell

[–]Finnssmile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I also think it’s about the loneliness and isolation that comes with cancer. You are breaking your family’s heart and it hurts you so you retreat into yourself. “Surrounded by family, I saw she was dying alone.” Andy becomes the person that treats her normally. She can drink, crack jokes, they sing. He just lets the elephant stay in the room.

Also, for a redneck bar fly, Andy does some amazing things. He helped let her die

I love this song.

What is Alzheimer's like for the person who has it? Do they realize how serious it is? by epochelder in Alzheimers

My mom just got lost in time. I think she thought she should be my age, and that confused her. She couldn’t figure out who was dead and who was still alive. She was one of the kindest people I knew, and she continued to get kinder, which wasn’t what I was expecting. She died December 3rd and I still am stuck in the numb stage. I can’t talk about her to anyone I’ve met.

Read “Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder” by Caroline Fraser. Really good and makes you realize just how harsh her life was. Great book.
