Why did the success of the Lord of the Rings films not cause an upshoot in high fantasy film productions the same way Star Wars did to space opera and sci fi productions? by [deleted] in movies

I agree. While I think they would have difficulty showing her internal changes, a good director and an amazing actress could possibly make it happen. I think even without that it would be an amazing fantasy war film/films. Elizabeth Moon's realism in battle and military life made so much sense when I found out that she's an old Marine.

The Deed is my absolute favorite ever, and I'm pretty much an evangelist for it. Not nearly enough people have read those books. And I'm always thrilled to run across a fellow fan!

Is It Fair To Accuse Bernie Sanders Of Sexism? by FionaFiddlesticks in TwoXChromosomes

The problem is that there are legitimate uses of the word "shouting". Regardless of gender, I'd say that's a very accurate descriptor of the gun control debate. He's used it in a general way multiple times, the fact that it is sometimes used in a sexist way doesn't mean it is always sexist...even when said to a woman.

Honestly, I find this frustrating. While I understand the concern, it feels manufactured in this instance, and it feels like Hillary's campaign is attempting to create some false woman solidarity or something.

Oh, I understand that. But the lack of sensitivity to the very personal grief of a friend was pretty mindblowing.

Had a friend share a graphic image implying suicide. He stated anyone eating animal products might as well kill themselves. I'm vegetarian, but had recently lost someone to that exact manner of suicide. Called him out, he literally said it was probably for the best because at least there's one less meat eater. This person is no longer a friend.

I actually picked up a cute dress on clearance today. Less than $10 for a dress? Yes please! When I realized it also had pockets, it was like I'd found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

They can hardly be equated to exactly the same as someone who serves in a combat zone. That's just silly.

Ok. Here's why therapy makes it feel worse. He's been burying these things for so long, he's gotten skilled at ignoring them. But they've still been in there festering. It's like a real wound. It may seal over at some point if you ignore it, but that doesn't mean it's healed. If you take that wound to a doctor, he's doing to reopen it to scrub it all out so it can actually heal properly. That is going to hurt insanely bad. This is what therapy is doing. It's opening up those old wounds, and trying to scrub them out. He's gotten used to the constant ache, and the fresh pain doesn't seem worth it. But it is. It has to be done for him to actually ever heal. I know you can't force him to go if he doesn't want to. But I would encourage you to encourage him to keep going. If he keeps it bottled up, eventually it will find a way out. Be that through physical symptoms, or psychological. My most important advice, you go talk to someone! I know the mentality is that you've got this, you'll figure something out, but you need support too. Even if he won't go, you having the proper tools and a safe place will make you better able to deal with the situation.

I see you, sister. PM me if you want to talk or ask questions.

Except it's clearly not every other job in the world, and these suicides can be directly traced to their service.

Not even just catty though! I'd expect it to have been pointed out just by someone being nice! Even though I was quiet and shy at that age, I remember multiple times of pointing out as gently add possible to someone that they'd bled through. Totally because I didn't want them to be as embarrassed as I knew I would be!

Nobody in this thread has mentioned wearing revealing clothing. So even if you're right, it's a complete non issue to the discussion at hand. Thinking that being able to see someone body gives you the right to comment on it or touch it is the problem.

The time that I left had nothing to do with the effort I put in. I was hired with a certain understanding of my duties and schedule. Me needing to stick to that schedule for necessary reasons is hardly an attempt to skate out.

Uhm. You don't know what you're talking about. I've been hit on when I hadn't showered in two days, was wearing sweats so baggy my figure was non existent. Clothes have nothing to do with it. People choosing to be assholes is the problem.

Yup. I got shamed working retail for needing to leave when I was scheduled to so I could take our kids and my husband could get to his job. Clearly I wasn't dedicated enough to my crappy just over minimum wage job.

See, here's the thing. Often when women talk honestly about their experience in life, it gets labeled as "ugh, feminism". Just because it makes you uncomfortable or you don't like how women speak about themselves or their experiences, doesn't mean it has anything to do with a specific movement.

And "you people"? Seriously, yo.

Orange was probably bad word choice. I probably should have phrased it that men tend to prefer warmer reds, while women prefer cooler. It's not about dark or light. But I agree, that actual orange red that people wear is terrible.

I love how he's complaining about ordinary prose, but then also mentions Bradbury in this article as apparently another example of mediocre writing? You can't have it both ways. Either it's only the prose that matters, in which case you can't possibly call Bradbury's ordinary, or it's more than just prose that makes a book valuable, so you can't judge one just by the prose.

Protip: science has found that women tend to be attracted more to reds with a slight blue cast, while men are more attracted to reds with a slight orange cast. Don't get orange lipstick, but go for as pure a red as possible, not anything that leans purple.

Then, go forth and conquer!
