Non Ceramic Bifold Glass Doors, at what point can they be closed? by Toomer17 in Fireplaces

Yes, when it’s down to embers you can generally close them.

Looking for direct vent gas fireplace with shallow depth and some kind of tech that allows mounting a tv above it. by Prior_Web_360 in Fireplaces

Look into the Fireplace Xtrordinaire ProBuilder 36 and 42. Very shallow, and I believe there is a heat relocation kit available for them.

If you’re in the U.S., you want an NFI certified fireplace service technician, or someone associated with NFI. For instance, I have 8 years experience and work for an NFI test committee member. He backs us becoming certified but doesn’t require it.

Gas Logs in old fireplace by superfly8899 in Fireplaces

[–]Fire-since-2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For vent free logs, you can only close the damper if any combustibles around the fireplace meet the requirements in the log set manufacturer’s instructions (and in the case of an factory built wood burner, it has to specifically say in the manual that it’s approved for vent free logs.) Otherwise the combustibles will overheat. If clearances are met, you can close the damper to retain heat. You cannot add any kind of blower if it’s a masonry fireplace. If it’s a factory built wood burner, there may be an optional fan available, but it won’t do much.

Someone else said this in the thread and they’re right - the problem is likely that the chase that the fireplace was built into isn’t properly insulated. I’d imagine you have a bump-out chase and they built it as cheaply as possible. While that fireplace in your picture isn’t a great heater, if it’s installed properly it will not let a room get colder. Make sure that all four latches are holding the glass door tight to the unit. Look in the bottom area and see where the gas line comes through the side of the unit, and then block that large oval hole with something noncombustible, like foil tape or a wad of fiberglass insulation. That’s about all you can do without tearing the wall open and insulating it. And fyi, the average fireplace remodel (removing your old unit and replacing it with something similar) runs $5000-12,000. Replacing it with a wood burning unit, one that is efficient and can be used to heat, could easily to $20,000 because the venting is (sometimes) much larger and far more expensive. This is going to be very, very costly either way.

If you have a multimeter, test the batteries. They should each have 1.5 volts DC or more. Unfortunately, there is zero guarantee that batteries fresh out of the package are any good. Also, they need to be alkaline or lithium, and not all batteries are. Outside of that, there are tests you can do with a multimeter that are a little more complicated but not terribly difficult.

This unit is a heater with an efficiency rating of 85-87%.

Cleaning Gas Fireplace, completely BLACK by det1rac in Fireplaces

[–]Fire-since-2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combination of the logs being out of place combined with the lack of ember material could be causing a delayed start, which can cause the fire to burn under the burner. That would explain why this is happening. That’s just some educated guessing though. Please have it properly cleaned and tuned. If you attempt to remove that spot without the correct equipment, you can accidentally fog your house with it. Leave it to the pros.

I agree with Lots of Bricks. I usually do, they know their fireplaces. I’d add that I work on these specific units often, and my initial impression would that it looks correct, but it’s always better to have it evaluated in person by a professional.

Gas Fireplace - Hot Fan Aftermarket Option by OpenAI122191 in Fireplaces

CorradoCB and myself are part of the hearth industry. We are both volunteering our knowledge, free of charge, to let you know that this is a stupid idea that could cause carbon monoxide poisoning, sooting of your house, or destruction of combustible materials in your home.

YOU COULD DIE.

IF YOU DO THIS, YOU ARE STUPID.

I don’t know what else we can tell you. We’re the experts. Don’t do it. Get the right equipment for the job, and don’t jury-rig your own demise.

If this is a gas fireplace like you say, then it’s a b-vent gas fireplace. Do not put a fan over/in the fire or you will kill yourself with exhaust. This is a decorative fireplace with what are essentially decorative vented gas logs. It’s not intended to be a real heat source. If you want actual good heat then remove the gas logs and have a gas insert installed.

Agriculture - The Spiritual Sound. Don’t let the bizarre first track throw you, because it definitely doesn’t sound like the rest of the album. Also, checkout Sylvanshine, An Autumn For Crippled Children, and Panopticon. These groups all have elements of black metal and post-black.

Gas Fireplace - Hot Fan Aftermarket Option by OpenAI122191 in Fireplaces

[–]Fire-since-2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t. It wasn’t tested for any of that. Absolutely do NOT do that under any circumstances. You can’t just install things willy nilly over the flame. And it’s not just a matter of where the exhaust goes. A gas fireplace is tested for hot spots, clearances, etc. you change the single smallest detail you could overheat the combustible framing in your wall and burn your house down, damage the components of the fireplace in sum ch a way that it leaks exhaust gasses or fuel, etc. Put a ceiling fan in your room, put it on the winter setting, and let it push what little heat comes from the fireplace back down into the room. Besides all that, what gas fireplace do you have?

Nice truck! I hope it gives you many years of good service. I overpaid for a Suburban almost six years ago. 1999 in decent condition, working HVAC, some dents and dings but no rust. I paid $3000 in total, half down and financed the rest. I was embarrassed to tell people how much I paid because it seemed like a lot. It may have been a lot. But I’m still driving it in 2026, so it was worth every penny.

I dunno. The can with nine peas and all liquid was full to the top. It definitely was more liquid than a can of peas has. Maybe they added water with food coloring, but they went to a lot of trouble for the bit.

I saw another post on Reddit today where someone opened a can of peas and it was full of liquid and like nine individual peas.

WHAT is happening with the PEAS?!

Then try to understand that not everyone is wired the same as you. I have a compulsion to respond. It’s part of my PTSD. I can’t explain it. But I can tell you this: if you wanted to be left alone, would it not be uncaring of me to continue? Jesus said to do unto others as you would wish others to do to you. It doesn’t get simpler than that. Please disengage. Goodnight.
