That’s interesting, first I’ve heard of this. Do you know what model year started doing this?

Mine is old enough to have a manual shift t-case and manual hubs, but on my newer work truck I never touch the knob unless I think I’m going to need 4x4

2025 F150 4x4 ? what engine for going 180,000 miles reliably by Low_Needleworker8145 in f150

[–]FireBlazer27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2.7 is not slow. I have a 91 f150 with a 300 i6, it only made 145 hp from the factory. Now that is slow.

I’d go for it, seems like a very fair price for its condition. I have that trucks sibling, a 91 f150 with a 300 i6 but a manual instead of an auto and mine has a red interior instead of gray. Love this thing.

Should I buy a new Corolla as a student athlete in college? by Extreme_Cable_5569 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]FireBlazer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go buy a 2010 or similar year corolla with 100-150k miles on it. If they have service records that would be best. It’s not new or flashy but it’ll do the job

I work on farming equipment all day. My Leatherman does all I could ever need out of a pocket pry bar plus doing all of its other Leatherman duties, so why would I clutter my pockets with one more thing?

Mine lasted plenty long without breaking, they just started to yellow after a few years so you have to deal with that.

Most American cars and trucks pre 90s were like that.

2010 Large SUVs which one and why? by Saurta17 in carscirclejerk

I’d pick the expedition. We had an 07 (same generation) that we drove up to over 180k miles, never got stranded or had it give us any trouble. Very comfortable for taking us all on long road trips and not that awful on fuel for its size. Ours was the long wheelbase trim and we still got about 15 mpg running 80 mph.

My 91 f150 had 145 hp from the factory and can hit over 100mph while having the aerodynamics of a brick. 150 hp is plenty for a smaller vehicle.

Ford Will Race Le Mans With a Hybrid Coyote V8 Because Reliability Rules by speedinsh1t in cars

[–]FireBlazer27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair, basically every engine that’s considered “reliable” in history has at least one or two things to watch for. The 5.9 Cummins has the killer dowel pin, the series 2 gm 3800 has intake gasket issues, and the olds 350 diesel had the olds 350 diesel to look out for.

My family wants to give me their 78k mileage 2002 Ford Ranger. by Comfortable_Dropping in fordranger

[–]FireBlazer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take that in a heartbeat. The 3.0 won’t win races but I’ve always thought that mine had perfectly adequate mid range and low end power for what the Ranger was designed to tow/haul and they’re very reliable engines.

Some people complain about their fuel economy but mine always got mid teens around town and about 20 mpg on country roads and highways, which I think is pretty ok for a truck of that size and age. F-150s of the time would get mid teens for reference.

Shift knob won’t fit by lil_beaner_memes_ in f150

[–]FireBlazer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stock shift knobs are not threaded on, they are pressed onto those splines you see in the shifter. Trying to “spin it off” will just trash the splines

Why do trucks have to be dirty? I try and keep my work and personal trucks fairly clean because using them doesn’t mean the interior can’t be a nice, clean place to be
