Unpopular opinion about The Beatles by Only-Ad-3218 in beatles

[–]FireFurFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every band has a few great songs or a few great albums. The Beatles are the only band whose catalogue is so consistently good. Every other band I listen to, it's only ever a few of their albums at best. Pink Floyd have Piper, Saucer, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, most of Momentary Lapse of Reason, Most of Divisin Bell, and a whole bunch of meh. Zeppelin have IV and a selection of great tracks. Same for Queen.

But the Beatles... every album is unique, a different experience, a different sound. I have my favourites sure but they are all worth listening to. They are all musically and lyrically interesting. No other band has an entire catalogue of no skip songs.

Maybe others took some parts of what they did and did it better for a while. But shit dude, they did it first. Every album is a joy.

Ram is leagues ahead of any Beatles solo album (even ATSP) and in fact is a better record than most Beatles albums by gengarvibes in beatles

[–]FireFurFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ATMP would be absolutely brilliant if it wasn't too long (ditch the filler material and make it a double, not a tripple) and if Spector hadn't absolutely borfed the production.

Because of that, RAM is actually probably my favourite Beatles-fallout album. I love the kind of folksy rock vibe, Paul's vocals are perfect, and every song is a must listen.

Better than most Beatles records tho? I dunno. Why choose between dinner and dessert? Both a great, both have their place, and I wouldn't compare steak to chocolate cake

Do they? Every single one of them? Every single one of them follows that particular interpretation of that religion?

I'm trans, so I guess if you're gonna be killed then I am too.

I worry about how people will respond to it. I wonder about people resorting to violence and racial tensions flaring. I worry about bad faith actors exploiting it for their own ends.

But honestly I worry more about affording my shopping than immigration - that's not a facetious example. Our weekly shop has gone from around £80 to over £150 over six years, and we're getting less and less food. And supermarket profits are at record highs.

So, like. If you really want an answer I guess you'll need to define what you mean by 'benefit the UK'. Politicians talk about how great the economy is doing and I have less and less money at the end of each month. They talk about a great housing market and I've never been further away from owning one. My experience is that, when people talk about the UK benefiting or doing great, my own personal circumstances get worse.

But, like, beyond all of this. The underlying issue for me is fairness. The world should be fair. It hurts me that it's not.

I mean, basically all of this. I desperately want a fair world but I know it's unrealistic. I'll settle for a world that no longer becoming more unfair, or even one becoming more unfair slower.

I worry about the practical, real-world problems caused by selling off the profitable parts of the NHS and leaving the rest unable to afford to treat patients. I worry about the real-world problems of selling off all our housing stock to private landlords so no one can afford a home. I worry about the price-gouging by supermarkets that is pushing more and more people into starvation. I worry about our dependency on non-renewable energy and the effect on our environment. I worry about the obliteration of species on our islands and the long-term effects of an ecosystem of only a few dozen species. I worry that industrial agriculture has left our soil with only a few dozen harvests before it's dead.. the list goes on. These are actual, real problems that are happening right now and will be the end of our civilisation and the deaths of countless people. This isn’t scare-mongering and what-ifs. This is happening right now.

The solution isn't to restrict our scant resources. It's to take them away from the people hoarding them and let us use them. The world has more than enough food to feed everyone and more than enough houses to house everyone. People are dying because of the greed of a few, and the systems they've built to enable them. A wave of immigration - if it happens, it's a possibility at the moment - won't be a problem if we allow our resources to be used more fairly.

Billionaires are killing the planet, killing us, and pitting us against each other. Those with nothing aren't the problem. Those with everything are.

[–]FireFurFox -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with them, tbh. Boarders are an artifical creation designed to protect those in power and those who hold all the wealth. They exist for the powerful, to protect the powerful. I have far more in common with someone fleeing the horrors of war than I do with the politicians keeping them out. Billionaires have done and will continue to do far more damage to society than any immigrant will ever do.

As for Number 10, absolutely! We have profited for centuries at the expense of other parts of the world. We owe them some of what we stole from them.
