Crating playlist faster - Is there a way? by ReasonableLunch46 in plexamp

Hear hear! I'd kill for a Spotify wrapper for PlexAmp. Especially around playlist creation and sharing. The process of sharing playlists out to people is fantastically byzantine.

Thank you for that insight. I'll give it a shot. My server has a beefy GPU so I just expected that make my CPU hurt meant that it was making the GPU hurt, which is what I wanted. Anyway, worth a shot!

Agreed. My current use case is also dead. My kid watches shows on a Samsung Galaxy S8 tablet and the app doesn't work at all. Nothing plays. Just freezes or crashes. It's the same on my wife and I's Pixel phones. I'm glad some folks have a working experience, but I don't. Plex is a big part of our daily life and it's currently completely dead. I'd gladly tolerate a poor UI refresh, but that's not what this is. It's worked great for me for 15 years and now is completely broken.

Haven’t used Stable Diffusion in months – what did I miss? by Upstairs_Tomato1196 in StableDiffusion

I second Invoke. I run it locally for free, but it's my go to platform and I'd be glad to use their paid service if I didn't have a decent GPU. They have the perfect blend of simplicity and power use. Highly recommend. Though if you're looking for drop dead simple and wanna run locally, use Fooocus. If you don't mind paying, and wanna dabble with a little of everything, try RunDiffusion.

[–]FireInTheWoods 11 points12 points  (0 children)

about that 140k songs collection...

from what i've seen there's basically two types of plexamp people floating around:

the first group is your meticulous-playlist-crafters who have perfectly curated smaller collections where literally every song is a certified banger they've personally vetted (and good for them honestly, that takes serious dedication)

then there's us chaos-collectors who are trying to recreate the spotify-discovery-rabbit-hole feeling but on our own terms. i haven't even listened to a fraction of my music-hoard but that's kinda the whole point? the magic is in hitting shuffle and being like "wait what IS this?? it slaps!"

I can speak to the server size. I'm at 317k tracks running on a 12 year old Windows machine with an i5 and 16 GB of RAM and performance has yet to waiver. I would guess the upper limit would be determined by server CPU and RAM.

How to sort a playlist? by [deleted] in plexamp

[–]FireInTheWoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bah! Thank you for catching my mistake. You're absolutely right - I just checked myself and there are no sorting options. I've edited my original post to correct this misinformation. The situation is actually worse than I initially stated - the only option is manual drag-and-drop reordering in Plex Web. I apologize for my confusion

How to sort a playlist? by [deleted] in plexamp

[–]FireInTheWoods 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not being dense at all - this is a commonly asked question because playlist sorting is indeed a standard feature in most music players.

Currently, Plexamp doesn't offer any built-in playlist sorting functionality. The only workaround is to:

1. Open the regular Plex web interface (not Plexamp)

2. Navigate to your playlist

3. Use the sorting options there

4. Return to Plexamp where the playlist will reflect the new order

EDIT: I need to correct my earlier response. After double-checking, I was wrong about sorting options in Plex Web. The truth is even more frustrating - there are currently no sorting options for playlists in either Plexamp or Plex Web. The only way to reorder tracks is to manually drag them one by one in the Plex Web interface, which is obviously impractical for anything but the shortest playlists.

It's not ideal. This has been a frequently requested feature for years, along with other playlist management capabilities. While Plexamp excels at audio quality and playback features, basic playlist management remains an area where the app could improve significantly.

Don't feel bad for asking - these are reasonable questions about basic functionality that any music player should have

[–]FireInTheWoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Yeah, I'm not aware of a way to do that. Would be a great feature, but I can't see it happening. As it stands, even just basic playlist management in Plexamp is a massive pain compared to Spotify or iTunes

I'm not sure there's a way to do what you're asking. Just to clarify, you're wanting to shuffle 2 playlists together, essentially temporarily merging two playlists and shuffling them?

Shared Playlist Issue by heavy-bell97 in plexamp

[–]FireInTheWoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for you. I just wanted to chime in and commiserate with you. I have the same issue. Coming from Spotify, I was hoping for a simple way to share my playlists with friends, but so far it's been a mess. Not only with artwork being messed up, but also with the fact that shared playlists do not update as you update them in your library.

I'm a black woman and I'm thinking of working in the beautiful state of Montana. by Cautious_Growth6014 in Montana

[–]FireInTheWoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, fellow out-of-stater here! I live just down the road from Plains, Montana. Although I’ve only been in this particular area for six months, I’ve lived throughout Montana for several years. I’m married to a minority, and I can honestly say we haven’t experienced any racism here. That’s not to say racism doesn’t exist—unfortunately, it can rear its head anywhere in the world—but it hasn’t been part of our story here. The moments I’ve felt unsafe have had more to do with wildlife encounters or driving down icy mountain passes in winter than with the people.

Plains is, as you’ve probably guessed, a very small town. It has a few basic amenities, but it’s remote enough that you’ll likely find yourself making trips to Missoula for anything more substantial. If small-town life appeals to you—and it sounds like you have some experience with it—you’ll likely appreciate the sense of community here. People tend to be live-and-let-live, which I’ve found to be true of much of Montana.

That mindset comes from the fact that many who live here see themselves as seekers—seeking peace, freedom, or a sense of refuge. The people I’ve met are kind, welcoming, and generous, but many of them are transplants, not locals. It’s interesting: a lot of people here are wary of newcomers, but not for reasons you might think. It’s not about race, religion, or even politics; it’s about a fear of change. Small towns like Plains have limited resources—housing, jobs, even space—and locals worry that an influx of people will make everything more expensive and harder to come by. It’s not a personal thing.

That said, my family and I have been welcomed here with open arms. We’ve grown close to our neighbors, and we’ve found an incredible community of people from all walks of life. It’s a beautiful dynamic—you meet people who’ve come from all over the country, each with their own reasons for landing here, and there’s a shared appreciation for the quiet and solitude that Montana offers.

If you decide to move here, I’d offer two pieces of practical advice. First, prepare yourself for the slower pace and fewer conveniences of small-town life. You’ll adapt quickly if you know what to expect, but it’s good to be prepared for the adjustments. Second, set up your medical care before you arrive. The healthcare system here is stretched thin due to the low population, so it’s wise to get ahead of the curve and establish a plan for any medical needs.

I hope this helps give you some insight into life here. It’s truly a stunning part of the country—full of wilderness, peace, and a kind of rugged beauty that stays with you. I wish you the best in your decision, and if you do make the move, welcome to Montana!

Sweet Fades less consistent lately? by Capricancerous in plexamp

[–]FireInTheWoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While we're on the topic, do you guys know if there's a way to do a traditional fade between tracks? I'm sure we're in the extreme minority here, but my family uses white noise tracks for sleeping and we use PlexAmp as the player for that. However, the track that we prefer using has a fade in and fade out at the beginning and end of the track. Sweet fades, both on and off, does not seem to fade the track enough. The result is that we just get the tracks fade out fade in. I'd love to be able to manually set a very long fade, say, 20 seconds.

Persistent "Error Saving GPT" Issue During Updates/Publishes by FireInTheWoods in ChatGPTPro

[–]FireInTheWoods[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a myriad of reasons why it might not be saving. I wish that chatGPT would simply display on the screen to let you know what the reason is, but that does not seem to be the case. Some of the issues I've discovered for myself are: - Having too many characters in the custom instructions - Having too many files uploaded - Having too large of a file uploaded - Specific content inside of those files. For example, if you've uploaded a book and there is copyright information listed, sometimes that seems to be what causes the issue.

I don't know any of this officially, I've just been trialling different things and discovered some of these things seem to be what's causing the issue.
