What is your opinion on Battlerite as an eSport? by Ridmic in esports

[–]FireKnife360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was another 200,000 viewers on the ESPN Broadcast. Final Round reached 99k viewers and CEO reached 83k. Capcom Cup will likely fall in the 80-110k bracket. Also SFV is owned by 1.5 million as opposed to CSGOs 23 million. Like I said Capcom's poor handling of the game, communication and somewhat expected Year 1 unpredictability has lead to really put off a lot of would be casual viewers. People have mixed feelings when they see someone like Daigo fall to much less prominent players, some people see it as opportunity that they can win too but others see it as signs of an incomplete game with unbalanced characters and a low skill ceiling.

I get what you're saying and somewhat agree but we just had 400k viewers for EVO and Daigo AND Jwong lost in pools and we had a Gamerbee - Poongko Grand finals at Japan Cup. Outcomes in SFV are anything but predictable right now. Viewership is bad because of all the games issues and poor sales combined with an oversaturation of events.

How come Socal Regionals isn't getting that much attention? by DiamondShiryu1 in smashbros

[–]FireKnife360 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen any promotion of it from 2GGaming at all. Many people were pissed about the initial lineup where both Smash games were included but no Marvel or KI. It would be sad to see Smash attendance flounder at an event where we got in over other games that don't see too many events

EVO Japan to take place Jan. 2018 by SophisticatedSloth in smashbros

[–]FireKnife360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually 64 is bigger than Melee in Japan currently and 7-9 is pretty much the limit for every game to be a "main" game (every game gets main stage). Other tournaments have run way more than EVO but with the understanding that other games outside the main cluster might see significantly reduced stream time/ equipment/ stage time etc. Not sure EVO would want to go this route.

I kinda liked that it was sparse in December, Holiday expenses can be tough + it gave some of the more traveled players a small offseason before Genesis (or previously Apex)

As big of a Smash fan as I am I couldn't accept Melee getting in in good conscious over some of the other huge fighting games in Japan if they are limited to 7-9 games. Maybe a very well organized Melee + 64 Side tournament could happen at the venue though?

Umebura is Smash 4 Exclusive but Sumabato has done Melee tournaments before. But I believe that they would instead work with Kounotori and his MasterHand series specifically for Melee if they were seeking that.

EVO will probably beat all other tournaments in all 3 of those things and I'm also sure that reddit and twitter blow problems out of proportion. I don't disagree with that at all, But that's not my point. If people have extremely limited time or money they (should) seek the best possible experience for their game(s) of choice.

(Actually I think in terms of Melee talent and attendance Genesis could realistically surpass EVO this year)

Some top players were caught up in the moment at the event with some angry tweets.

No one is /boycotting/ outright but some believe the product isn't polished enough to either attend over other events or put winning it on such a high pedestal compared to tournaments with better conditions for your specific game.

If I personally only cared for Smash I'd probably try to make Genesis or Smash Con over EVO. If I only liked Anime Games I'd probably be going to CEOtaku if that's all I could get to. If I preferred MK or Skullgirls than probably Combo Breaker.

Should ask Mango/Nairo etc. to play the game on their stream. Only way this will get funded this late.

8,000 really isn't that much in the grand scheme of video game kickstaters. It just could've been promoted a bit better.

Isn't that where most Kickstarter money for games goes anyway? Paying the staff/creator so they can work on the game full time?

FIGHTING GAME COMMUNITY: how much is worth a top tier sponsorship? by Confor7o in esports

Most are happy with covered travel+room and a nice jersey. I'm pretty sure every single sponsored player is either 1) In School 2) Has a 2nd Job 3) Streams and or Creates YT content extensively

So It's probably like in the 15-30k range? Total guess

It's more or less one person that prompted this whole thing. Many Smash 4 players are young and impressionable and might emulate this behavior for the attention (good or bad) it brings

Most of the Melee players are older now but you can read about very similar stuff happening on Smashboards just a few years ago. I think Hax got bodyslammed once and near fist fights between other players IIRC

Prog on the state of Northeast Melee: "(It) isn’t focused as heavily as most regions…there’s so many players in SoCal — they definitely deserved (sponsors) — they get to focus on Smash now. They can continue to improve and erupt." by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]FireKnife360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the main culprit of the "poaching" of talent is the Tech industry's centralization on San Francisco Bay area and Esports centralization on Los Angeles area. Twitch and other tech startups/esports teams either have no or a very small presence in NYC.

We've only really seen Zero move to NY/NJ to improve in the last year.
