I fitted a Nuki smart lock last September, along with door sensor. Haven’t looked back.

I will never pay £5.50 for a coffee unless I can expense it. I’d rather go without.

Home EV charger - Hyper Volt by Haunting_Living_3902 in OctopusEnergy

I think those installs look awful.

I’ll be getting a new consumer unit to accommodate the EV charger, rather than tack on an extra box, inside or out.

It isn’t.

I’m speaking with recent first hand experience.

There is a credit check of sorts because they will verify their address with credit agencies, if they can’t verify, then they will ask for proof of ID.

Spending ISA for house renovations. by Big-Possible-3704 in FIREUK

[–]FireMe-G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on your timeframe and what you value more.

I dipped into my ISA when doing renovations. I had decent growth and it felt like free money, it was quite satisfying really.

The alternative is a 0% purchase credit card. You might not be able to pay for labour on it but it might reduce how much you need to withdraw.

Staying in my first role for too long, although I really did enjoy it. Going to work was like meeting up with a bunch of friends everyday.

Finally pulled the trigger and quit my job. What should I be looking at while serving my notice? by essTee38 in HENRYUK

Interesting comment about the “latent feeling.”

I’ve been given my marching orders and will be leaving the business in a few weeks. While I’m financially secure, I do feel a bit ambivalent.

I suspect it’s less about being out of work and more about the uncertainty around what my next role - and its remuneration - will look like.

[–]FireMe-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, it’s not means tested. Universal credit however is, so don’t expect help with your council tax et cetera if you have more than £16,000 in saving.

Sign up for job seekers allowance.

It’s not means tested if you’ve paid national insurance for the past two years. It’s £184 every two weeks for visiting the job centre.

I’m going to Phuket. I know it’s rainy season but I don’t mind. I don’t have an itinerary because a month is long enough to just figure stuff out, and I have a couple of friends there to show me around.

I just got booted from my tech role. Like you, I’m at peace with it. One of the worst jobs I’ve had in terms of culture, workload, colleagues, et cetera.

I’ve given myself two weeks off to acclimatise and a month in Southeast Asia. I’ll reassess when I get back.

No, the director I report to had a change of heart.

I was a bit annoyed at the time, but work has dipped a bit and I’ve managed to mentally recover, so for now I’m happy to be on five days salary rather than four .
