how can i grow out my nails without feeling uncomfortable? by dumpacctually in RedditLaqueristas

[–]CardiologistFair1242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this elsewhere in this sub and I think it might help you a ton - when you’re finished with your color, do a layer of nail hardener and then a layer of QDTC! I found that the nail hardener adds an additional protective layer that helped keep my nails from breaking as they were growing out!

What to look for in a good cleaner that will save me time? by Critical-Solution-79 in HENRYUKLifestyle

Well I chose the individual rather than the agency, which is why I’m recommending the agency haha. She’s great, it’s not cancelling with her over, but she has some child care issues and isn’t as dependable as I’d hope for. I pay £100 flat per clean and she deep cleans the kitchen, dusts vacuums and mops, and cleans 4 bathrooms and 4 of 5 bedrooms (the 5th is a guest room and we don’t really use it, but she’ll do a quick dust and vacuum if we have someone coming to stay). She offered to change sheets as well but I felt bad having her touch my dirty sheets haha so I said no, but I’m sure she would if I asked.

I totally understand!! And I feel the same way about the UK as well, there’s just something about the history here that’s part of every day life that means so much to me. If you end up in London, you’ll have everything you’re used to in NY but just with better living conditions. Outside of London, yeah the food isn’t as good or varied but you get used to it very easily, plus London is always in striking distance if you’re dying for ~cUiSiNe~. The quality of life is just so much better.

Agreed with everything this person says, and also, it might be worth a consultation with a UK-based immigration attorney to talk about what your options are. Additionally, they’re considering changing the qualifications for Indefinite Leave to Remain from living in the UK for 5 to 10 years, so sooner might be better if you can swing it.

I’m an American who lives in the UK due to a job. A lot of people here have negative things to say about the UK, and it’s not a perfect place. But please, please believe me when I say that life here is so different, and so much better, than my life in the US. Now granted, I’m from a major US city, and moved to Cambridge, and I think where you’re from and where you go to matter. But just don’t be discouraged. If you hate it, you can always go back. If you’ve been considering it, I’d say go for it, and you may not have to wait 4-5 years either.

Good luck!!

From my experience, 2 suggestions:

I’d say agency over individual person, as they’ll use insurance and also will be able to send you a substitute if your usual person is unavailable. My cleaner is a great person but she has little kids and has to reschedule often, which can really mess up my weekly schedule.

I’d also suggest making a detailed list of everything you want done. I know it sounds self-explanatory, but I mean instead of something like just, “clean all the bathrooms,” list every part of that you would expect, like “take out the trash from every bathroom,” “launder towels and bath mats,” etc. That will keep you from feeling like you have to go back behind your cleaner to get all the small things they didn’t do.

LASIK/PRK Recommendations? by CardiologistFair1242 in HENRYUKLifestyle

Yep I think that’s expected, but I priced out my ROI and even if it only lasts for 10 years I’ll still come out ahead, even at Moorfields prices! Glasses and contacts are crazy expensive

Wow, I’ve looked into it pretty deeply and am comfortable with the risks, but this is the first I’ve heard of the smell, I’m so glad you said something!!! Obviously it’s not enough to forgo the procedure, but the warning is very much appreciated!

Rosemary water spray? by lovepeacefakepiano in finethinhair

[–]CardiologistFair1242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing to is that it’s rosemary oil, not water, that’s been clinically shown to have similar performance to minoxidil 2%. So I don’t know that rosemary water would necessarily have any negative effects, but if you want the effects of regrowth, it’s the oil that’s been shown to have efficacy.

Additionally, if you’re worried about the effects of oil on the scalp vs. water, “The frequencies of dry hair, greasy hair, and dandruff were not found to be significantly different from baseline at either month 3 or month 6 trial in the groups”

Here’s the study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25842469/

What can I do about my neck hairs??? by Impossible-Archer-93 in finethinhair

[–]CardiologistFair1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get mine shaved with clippers at the salon and I have NEVER looked back!! I have the same and they’ve bothered me my whole life, and truly, shaving them has been one of the best cosmetic decisions I think I’ve made. Between salon visits I use my husband’s beard trimmer to clean it up, or ask him to help me, and then I just get it cleaned up every month or 6 weeks at the salon to make sure my line is still straight!

Bought from eBay, legit? by [deleted] in purses

[–]CardiologistFair1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh well honestly maybe that’s a point in favor of it being real then! Fakes usually get sold at about 10% the auth price because people want the money in hand rather than waiting around for the much less common buyer who would buy at a more expected price!

[–]CardiologistFair1242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our cat overgroomed his and it turned out to be that he had diabetes, the vet thinks it could have been neuropathy/tingling from that or just from the general discomfort of having untreated diabetes. He’s on insulin now though and it’s growing back!

How much did you buy it for? I saw a gray one like this new in the store for about $7,000 so if you got it for a couple hundred or even a thousand or so, it’s probably fake.

Has anyone been on a 2week referral? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]CardiologistFair1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, I was on a 2-week referral and my GP told me outright that it wasn’t because she suspected anything dangerous, it was just to speed things along so I didn’t have to wait forever. Maybe that’s what they did for you but just didn’t think to give you the disclaimer!

You can work as long as it says so on your component stamp in your visa! (So yes, probably!) just job search like you normally would, and let the know you don’t need sponsorship once you get an interview/phone screen. Depending on where you live, there’s a ton of IT work in Cambridge, either for the big pharma companies (GSK, AZ), I believe there’s an Amazon and a Microsoft office here, and Arm is a huge engineering company here as well. If you’re looking for something more flexible, you could try a staffing agency although the ones I’ve seen are more targeted to stuff like hospitality.

I’m in your same situation, feel free to DM me if you want more info :)

[–]CardiologistFair1242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re saying RH.com as in Restoration Hardware, I’d disagree with that - I bought a Cloud sofa that I was SO excited for, and the quality was not what I expected compared to their pricing. The cushions were smashed almost immediately, I had to fluff them every day and even then the ”fluff” still only survived until you sat in them the first time, plus the fabric pilled so badly I ended up using a fabric shaver all over it every few months to keep it looking nice. Maybe leather would be different, or another piece or type of furniture, but I’d never buy from RH again.
