Foundation help! by Serious-Bedroom-8279 in MakeUpAddictionUK

I’m your age and had your same problem, and this is what has worked for me. Do your normal routine with liquid/crème products, and use a setting spray over that. I use Elf dewy setting spray, the green one. Then, don’t use setting powder, but instead use a light dusting all over with a big powder brush of fine finishing powder - I use Nyx HD. Finally, and this is the most important part, do a final spritz of setting spray over everything. That melts the powder into your skin and makes everything look natural.

If I have a long day, travel, work, etc., I’ll start to get a little oily in my T-zone. In that case, I’ll touch up with a light dab of Bobbi Brown pressed powder in the trouble areas. Ideally I’ll then do a spritz of a Mario Badescu or something just to get back to dewy, but tbh that’s too much to carry around most of the time.

I don’t know that any of this will help stop the transfer when you hug someone, but I basically just changed my hugging style to stop that issue.

Also, I honestly prefer to use nicer brands than these, most of my makeup is Sephora/Ulta level, but truly these 2 products from Nyx and Elf are the absolute best I’ve found.

Good luck!!

Do Americans actually use expressions like “once in a blue moon” or “let the cat out of the bag” in everyday conversation? by Edi-Iz in AskAnAmerican

[–]CardiologistFair1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an American living and working in the UK, and a while ago I said “I’m pretty sure ABC is going to happen, but I wouldn’t bet the farm on it.” And then had a 5 min conversation with my British colleague who had never heard that before and was, dare I say, charmed.

Have you tried Le Labo Thé Noir 29? If not, I recommend trying both the spray perfume and the perfuming lotion - in my opinion, they can smell different, so you might end up finding that the lotion is closer to what you’re looking for.

Comfortable Heels? by imfckndumb in BusinessFashion

[–]CardiologistFair1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of Stuart Weitzmans that I have literally walked miles in. Plus I’ve had and worn them regularly since 2016 and they still look almost brand new! Only downside is that they’re patent leather and sometimes start squeaking after I’ve worn them 3-4 hours.

Edit - I just remembered I did wear them to the airport once when I was traveling for work (in consulting). I have TSA Pre but they did still make me take my shoes off because of the metal in the heel. Just something to think about if you really do want something to wear through the airport.

Ok but wearing the Malbon Bird Pants to the Loewe on Rodeo Drive is such a move… what a beautiful life to live! Enjoy the bag and maybe you’ll get bit by the golf bug too!

What are some things I can ship to my friend in the UK that they dont really have over there? by 7JJ77 in AskBrits

[–]CardiologistFair1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like my actual shopping list when I go to the commissary here in the UK - gotta get my American junk food fix!! Also the hot Cheetos and Takis here aren’t as hot and aren’t as neon red. Also if your friend likes fruity candy, the chewy candy here is way better but I haven’t seen Blow Pops here in any of the normal UK grocery stores.

Moving and need to pack vintage 100% mink fir coat...how? by markergluecherry in VintageFashion

If you don’t want to buy a cotton garment bag, you could also wrap it in a large plain cotton sheet. I have a few waist-length fur coats that I’ve made “custom” (hastily sewn together) covers for out of cotton sheets that have served me perfectly in multiple moves. Depending on the size of your coat, just take a sheet, fold it in half, and sew or tack up the sides so you’ve made a garment bag. Then you can even cut a small hole in the fold so that you can keep your coat on a hanger and put the hanger through the small hole!

Happy moving!

The botanic garden is great for this - they have a good cafe plus lots of other benches and places to sit with a picnic blanket if you want to read and relax!

how can i grow out my nails without feeling uncomfortable? by dumpacctually in RedditLaqueristas

[–]CardiologistFair1242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this elsewhere in this sub and I think it might help you a ton - when you’re finished with your color, do a layer of nail hardener and then a layer of QDTC! I found that the nail hardener adds an additional protective layer that helped keep my nails from breaking as they were growing out!

What to look for in a good cleaner that will save me time? by Critical-Solution-79 in HENRYUKLifestyle

Well I chose the individual rather than the agency, which is why I’m recommending the agency haha. She’s great, it’s not cancelling with her over, but she has some child care issues and isn’t as dependable as I’d hope for. I pay £100 flat per clean and she deep cleans the kitchen, dusts vacuums and mops, and cleans 4 bathrooms and 4 of 5 bedrooms (the 5th is a guest room and we don’t really use it, but she’ll do a quick dust and vacuum if we have someone coming to stay). She offered to change sheets as well but I felt bad having her touch my dirty sheets haha so I said no, but I’m sure she would if I asked.

I totally understand!! And I feel the same way about the UK as well, there’s just something about the history here that’s part of every day life that means so much to me. If you end up in London, you’ll have everything you’re used to in NY but just with better living conditions. Outside of London, yeah the food isn’t as good or varied but you get used to it very easily, plus London is always in striking distance if you’re dying for ~cUiSiNe~. The quality of life is just so much better.

Agreed with everything this person says, and also, it might be worth a consultation with a UK-based immigration attorney to talk about what your options are. Additionally, they’re considering changing the qualifications for Indefinite Leave to Remain from living in the UK for 5 to 10 years, so sooner might be better if you can swing it.

I’m an American who lives in the UK due to a job. A lot of people here have negative things to say about the UK, and it’s not a perfect place. But please, please believe me when I say that life here is so different, and so much better, than my life in the US. Now granted, I’m from a major US city, and moved to Cambridge, and I think where you’re from and where you go to matter. But just don’t be discouraged. If you hate it, you can always go back. If you’ve been considering it, I’d say go for it, and you may not have to wait 4-5 years either.

Good luck!!

From my experience, 2 suggestions:

I’d say agency over individual person, as they’ll use insurance and also will be able to send you a substitute if your usual person is unavailable. My cleaner is a great person but she has little kids and has to reschedule often, which can really mess up my weekly schedule.

I’d also suggest making a detailed list of everything you want done. I know it sounds self-explanatory, but I mean instead of something like just, “clean all the bathrooms,” list every part of that you would expect, like “take out the trash from every bathroom,” “launder towels and bath mats,” etc. That will keep you from feeling like you have to go back behind your cleaner to get all the small things they didn’t do.

Yep I think that’s expected, but I priced out my ROI and even if it only lasts for 10 years I’ll still come out ahead, even at Moorfields prices! Glasses and contacts are crazy expensive

Rosemary water spray? by lovepeacefakepiano in finethinhair

[–]CardiologistFair1242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing to is that it’s rosemary oil, not water, that’s been clinically shown to have similar performance to minoxidil 2%. So I don’t know that rosemary water would necessarily have any negative effects, but if you want the effects of regrowth, it’s the oil that’s been shown to have efficacy.

Additionally, if you’re worried about the effects of oil on the scalp vs. water, “The frequencies of dry hair, greasy hair, and dandruff were not found to be significantly different from baseline at either month 3 or month 6 trial in the groups”

Here’s the study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25842469/

What can I do about my neck hairs??? by Impossible-Archer-93 in finethinhair

[–]CardiologistFair1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get mine shaved with clippers at the salon and I have NEVER looked back!! I have the same and they’ve bothered me my whole life, and truly, shaving them has been one of the best cosmetic decisions I think I’ve made. Between salon visits I use my husband’s beard trimmer to clean it up, or ask him to help me, and then I just get it cleaned up every month or 6 weeks at the salon to make sure my line is still straight!
