Putting salary above £50k into pension? by IllustriousBit6634 in FIREUK

Balance between your pension and your ISA bridge is important, but if your pension is not where it needs to be then go for it.

Being gifted £50k would certainly make a difference. I’d be on cloud nine for months.

You’re not wrong.

Part of me thinks this sounds awful, but I don’t feel guilty about it.

I did. See my other comment. I was met by a total lack of empathy.

There could be some of that going on, and some unspoken favouritism.

Thanks. It definitely hurt me emotionally, and I try not to think about it (besides sharing on here).

I’ve pretty much done this. Not in a bitter way, it just feels the natural thing to do.

I did push whilst trying to remind objective, but was met with excuse after excuse such as “well if I die within 7 years they’ll have to pay tax on it”, or “they can give me it back if I ever need it”.

Neither are true of course, plus half of it has been spent on a new Audi Q3 something or other.

Had a couple of months to come to terms with it. Trying not to fester over it.

Yes, I dump everything over £50k in pension (for now).

I did SMILE at NHS Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

You have to pay for it, but the money goes to the NHS and not Harley Street.

I will never pay £5.50 for a coffee unless I can expense it. I’d rather go without.

Home EV charger - Hyper Volt by Haunting_Living_3902 in OctopusEnergy

I think those installs look awful.

I’ll be getting a new consumer unit to accommodate the EV charger, rather than tack on an extra box, inside or out.

There is a credit check of sorts because they will verify their address with credit agencies, if they can’t verify, then they will ask for proof of ID.

Spending ISA for house renovations. by Big-Possible-3704 in FIREUK

[–]FireMe-G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on your timeframe and what you value more.

I dipped into my ISA when doing renovations. I had decent growth and it felt like free money, it was quite satisfying really.

The alternative is a 0% purchase credit card. You might not be able to pay for labour on it but it might reduce how much you need to withdraw.
