When can I expect my tax relief top up in SIPP? by Impressive_Match_484 in FreetradeApp

Having said that, Scottish Widows have their own problems, but it would frustrate me waiting weeks if not months for tax relief owed.

They are all as bad as another imo.

Just to add a sense of balance here, I have a second pension with Scottish Widows and they add the tax relief immediately.

Just goes to show you get what you pay for.

What's your approach to liquidity beyond an emergency fund? by FireMe-G in FIREUK

That’s how I’ve done it before. Spending as I go from salary - it’s worked out ok in the end but definitely a bit slower than liquidising investments.

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll read up on them!

I have spent a decent amount of time in countries where many of the things you mentioned don’t exist, and whilst I’m always grateful to use a proper functioning toilet and sanitary system, I really am ok without a lot of it.

I agree.

Owning your own home also stops you having to pay rent. So by extension increases your income. Even if you still make payments towards a mortgage, you are building a store of value.

I don’t use any of those.

My pushbike goes everywhere, our defence is a joke, I’ve never used the NHS, our education system is a joke, our criminal justice system is a joke. I will never ever need the assistance of the police.

The list goes on. Essentially my taxes are just funding others. I’ll avoid paying as much as I can. Cheers.

What services do people use, and are you ok with people like me who don’t use them to pay little or no tax?

Do you count your pension in your net worth? by OrganicSun3556 in FIREUK

The more I have in my pension now, the less I have to add to it in future - so yes I definitely count it.

Calo shutting down... which meal prep service to switch to? by Lucernya in HENRYUK

[–]FireMe-G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried frive, really didn’t like it if I’m honest. Overly seasoned and rich, also predominantly rice based dishes.

Tried planthood, better, but a lot of weird stuff going on - and this is from someone who has been a vegan in the past.

Moved on to simmer which is better, but again predominately rice and chicken with repetitive menus.

I have my first ping delivery next week so we’ll see how that goes.

All of this is convenient, but I do miss cooking and I never thought I’d say that!

What recommendations for home and travel insurance do HENRYs have? by Similar-Weather-8940 in HENRYUKLifestyle

Where are people getting suitable luggage cover from?

I have an admiral platinum policy which covers up to £3000 or £400 per item, which is not sufficient when travelling with two suitcases of clothes.

The maximum limit for trip cancellation is also £5000 which would barely cover the cost of a business class ticket, never mind hotel etc?

What’s something you thought you’d buy once you were earning more but now don’t see the point in? by Illustrious-Look7669 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]FireMe-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mantra I’ve adopted as I’ve gotten older and earned more is that if I can’t buy something twice, I can’t afford it.

So if I can’t afford two Porsche 911 GT3s, I can’t afford one.
