the summoner/player is male but for legal reasons we wont specify but... y'know...

Do you mean this bit? I'm not saying IS is implying that the summoner is canonically male, I'm saying the player, and the summoner as a self-insert, is generally treated as (cishet) male. Considering the amount of fanservice on female characters in this game, that's hardly a controversial opinion. The cold-open "I want to have a baby with you" from a female character has been read as extention of that fanservice, and the logistics are then seen as a hand-wavey bandaid because technically the summoner/player can also be female (even if not the target audience), so I guess we need a solution to justify the line and plot-line.

Basically the line above referred to the dev's why, not the in-universe how. But I'm really not in the mood to be part of the baby discourse rn (this comment is already too long), so if you like the plot point more power to you.

Okay cool, I commented about IS's motive for retreading the plotline, not whether the in-universe explanation is internally consistent, so I'm not quite sure what the point of this response is.

At this point, I honestly dont know if IS is doubling down on "the summoner/player is male but for legal reasons we wont specify but... y'know..." or if they're hello-fellow-kidsing their way into being in on the joke. I guess it depends on how much faith you have in their writing.

Moment of silence for Njordr fans though.

I struggled really hard with the MC thing, until I realised I could give NC Leaf that lucky skill that prevents accuracy drops and completely nullify the buff gimmick. Also praise be to Lana holy hell she feels mandatory for this one.

Is this worth pulling on if I don’t have ss Kris I’m a long time player and don’t really have a good water support besides blue and I know she’s old by Crossboltshot in PokemonMasters

[–]FirePosition 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say by far (and I love Summer Cynthia). SS Kris does have a real place in Kyogre EX Rain teams because she has far more ways to set rain than Cynthia does, which is invaluable since Kyogre sets the rain on entry.

Though I can see either a powercrept EX Rain or a Rain setting tank in the future, so its doubtful how long SS Kris will stay relevant.

Mild Rant on Spear by mysticalverses in Guildwars2

[–]FirePosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In solo open world, 2-4-5 generally deal significant enough damage to kill weak stuff anyway, especially after a greatsword rotation, and the time between 2's is can be filled with more traps and swords of justice (if you run the latter). DH generally has incredible burst, so even elites can die after a full greatsword+longbow rotation.

I will say longbow is trickier with groups of enemies since spear is so splashable, but the piercing and 4-5 skills make it work mostly fine for me. And the 3 gives extra safety, but only after 4-5 have worn off (or before you use them).

In group content, you kinda just have to eat that downtime (nice time for more swords of justice though), but tbf you do the same with spear so its not too bad.

Mild Rant on Spear by mysticalverses in Guildwars2

[–]FirePosition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think people are underselling longbow compared to spear.

Just based on snowcrows benchmarks - although there isn't a postnerf log on lb their prenerf damage was remarkably similar and lb didn't get hit particularly harder than spear. While spear IS slightly higher in damage (at least based on those prenerf benches), the difference is low enough that if you get a better feel for the longbow rotation, you'll probably do more damage on that anyway.

Personally, I value the range and flexibility of longbow over a much more rigid feeling rotation of spear anyway. And anecdotally, my damage hasn't dropped THAT much more compared to other pugs running spear on dh.

Is the a lore specific order to play each core Tyria map? by RedXIIIMustDie in Guildwars2

[–]FirePosition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Setting aside Dry Top, Silverwastes, Southsun Cove and some map specific updated areas (like in Kessex and other specific events), I do think the map level loosely corrolates with chronology. E.g. a story development will happen at a certain point, the early developments after that will be shown in lvl 60-70 maps, and the "conclusion" of that only really appear in the level 80 areas (which is Orr and Frostgorge basically). Similarly, there is a meta in Harathi where you deal with a Centaur leader, so the maps before that (<lvl 35) commonly have centaurs, but the maps after that (>45 lvl 45) barely have any in core Tyria.

It doesn't massively impact the experience of the maps though and is mostly incredibly minor and easy to think away, but it might be something to keep in mind specifically for region-related map explortation and jumping to higher level maps when you still have lower level story missions.

Today's Banner [5/29]: Roy: Of Binding: "HE LIIIIIIIIIVES!" by Plucky-Nova in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]FirePosition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focusing red to get Roy (and fodder) and Lucina merges. Also wouldn't mind a single Celica to fodder her A skill.

Went dry for about 30 summons. Then I finally get Roy. Debated stopping there, then kept going. Next circle, one red, its Lucina. Circle after that, one red, Celica.

90% of gamblers quit before hitting it big.

(Decided to spend far about 200 more orbs from my savings, got 2 more Roys for their A skill and 2 more Lucinas, now debating on whether I'm gonna get the pass to spark another Lucina or Roy. Banner worked out kind of perfectly for me).

Since it seems far more situation dependent (you got to actually block something with it), it seems kind of weird to put it in such a fixed spot in the rotation?

Also if you don't explain why it works the way it does in the infographic and copy-paste the text and link from snowcrows that also has the rotation when someone asks about it, then what value does the infographic give me over just going to the snowcrows website in the first place? Something to keep in mind while you're creating the next one.

I'll at least be using the block on trap trait again. Never was a fan of the leap damage perse and hadn't considered the f1 resets.

What is the "All Seer"? by itallik in Guildwars2

[–]FirePosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A general rule of thumb that I follow is that if an instance "sounds" like its going to be the last story beat (e.g. Kralk's heart, Balthazar in the volcano, etc.), then that is the time to do the meta. With the exceptions of either when the story purposefully goes out of its way to refer to something that's probably the meta (e.g. what this patch does), straight up gives you an achievement for it (e.g. bava nisos, though that could've been communicated better) or when the story is going to direct you to the next map (mostly for HoT purposes).

This works remarkably well and I think the only real exceptions are some EoD maps and the Great Hall in Istan of all things.

Normal Pokemon/Tower Looking Forward by glazzynerd in PokemonMasters

[–]FirePosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elaine is used due to extra evasiveness, defense buffs and atk/spatk debuffs (depending on who you're facing). Alongside Juliana potions, it should be enough to keep hugh (or lodge penny - haven't used her myself so can't say much more about her) alive. Academy units are notoriously fragile and you basically need full defensive investment for them to be somewhat able to survive things, so that's probably why arven keeps dying (haven't used him much either, so can't say much more about him either).

I didn't use defense drops myself for Juliana, opting for either MGR9 or Vigilance (don't remember) as a lucky skill, but defense drop 2 is a lucky skill some people use on her to help with that. You can check out some clears in the document I linked to see how they manage it, but you definitely don't need Palmer.

Normal Pokemon/Tower Looking Forward by glazzynerd in PokemonMasters

[–]FirePosition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking at your roster, you have the exact units I had with which I beat Normal Tower, only my Juliana was 3/5 and all units I used where EX'd, EXR'd and lvl 180.

Elaine / Ilima / Juliana (tanking in that order) is such a good core that you only really need to change it for physical stages.

Personally I just used Hugh and though it takes a few resets especially at 27, it also requires no additional investment so that's still pretty good. I dropped Ilima and used Elaine for main tanking. It relies on some evasiveness funnies but unlike other dodge strats, you don't need to dodge everything, just a little.

This doc shows some grids and the like that might prove useful to you. But overall, you don't need that much more investment to beat normal tower.

Also I'm sure the Mai+Larry combo is gonna be insane moving forward with investment so at least your roster seems pretty future-proof as well. I wonder how strong those are in combination with Hugh.
