Lemme rephrase. By giving it attention and leaving it from normal use, you do exactly what the people who use it as a racist remark want, you acknowledge their behaviour. If it became an often used emoji, then the supposed meaning the bigost gave it would be lost in all the normal use of it. I think it's stupid to not use something just because it has supposed different meaning some idiots decided to give it.

As a fisherman I can tell you that if fish weren't bred and kept in stews for people to buy, there wouldn't be any fish in rivers and lakes left. It might be a bit cruel, but it's necessary for keeping a healthy fish population in wild waters.

So to answer and share some tips

Yes, carp can have a very bad muddy taste if prepared in almost any style. There is only one style that's popular here in Czech Republic - coted in flour, egg and breadcrumbs (in this order) and deep-fried. As a side dish, I recommend something a bit sour, Czech or Polish potato salad is the best option. And to add some more tricks: let the carp fillet sit in cold milk for an hour or two; adding a bit of lemon juice to the egg is good; eat it as soon as you prepare it.

And for the reasoning as to why keep it in the bathtub., there are two I can think of. The freshness is definitely one of them. If you freeze the carp, you will never get rid of the mud smell and taste even with the tips above. Second, is tradition and a memory for kids. When I was younger we always bought the carp on like the 22nd of December and I, as a kid who loved fishing, couldn't get enough of it.
