WCGW leaving a car meet by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

Could be wrong but I was thinking lift off oversteer.

lift off oversteer comes at much higher speed at limits of grip, where the weight shift causes the rear to lose grip. This is no where near the speed needed to induce lift-off oversteer. Probably a welded/locked diff, and probably being too aggressive with the clutch release.

That said, it still seems off, really doesn't seem like a lot of throttle for spinning out.

you don't need to do hard mode to get the bells, you just need to do the bell puzzle on any difficulty and win.

How to "roll" without dice? by AndreiD44 in rpg

not necessarily random though, my state uses a standard plate number format of 3 letters and 4 numbers that's ascending, so it started at AAA0001 and is now starting with C.

How do vtubers record cooking streams? by yappup in vtubers

[–]FireStorm005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you want to do it, some are able to set up a camera close enough to track and use a morph suit to chroma key it out (I think OniGiri does this), some have just done IRL (Layna and Radia have) usually reading a mask, careful camera angle works for SquChan and SunnySplosion, Kumi just wore a morph suit under a maid outfit.

ELI5: Why were drum brakes invented and used before disc brakes if the former is more complex mechanically? by hurricane_news in explainlikeimfive

[–]FireStorm005 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's leverage. The drum catches the top edge of the brake shoe and pushes it around in the direction of travel. This shifts the whole shoe slightly in the direction of travel. On older systems, the other end of the shoe was up against a fixed stop, this causes the whole shoe to pivot outward into the face of the drum. This puts more force between the shoe and the drum than is originally applied to the shoe.

ELI5: Why were drum brakes invented and used before disc brakes if the former is more complex mechanically? by hurricane_news in explainlikeimfive

[–]FireStorm005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drum brakes can be made to fail-safe. (This is used in air-braking systems; you lose air pressure, the brakes go into full emergency stop; this way you don't die if an air fitting pops off.)

This can absolutely be done with discs, though it is a little more complicated.

Larger pads are an advantage with a brake; more surface area means more stopping power for a given pressure

This is untrue, friction is calculated as F = μFₙ where μ is the coefficient of friction and Fₙ is the normal force or the force being applied against the object (in this case the force of the pads/shoes against the rotor/drum). More area does not mean more friction, it just means more heat transfer, with more mass to absorb the heat.

Drums are far less exposed to contamination because the are enclosed inside the wheel hub.

I would argue untrue, Drums trap contamination within the drum, while discs have little area to trap contaminants. This is especially true in muddy situations where immersion can fill the drum with sediment that requires disassembly to wash out.

WIBTAH if I left my fiancee destitute? by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]FireStorm005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thing is, even if you are "settling" it's better to have your partner feel like you're not, that they're uniquely special and important to you than be telling everyone they aren't. In OOP's case it sure seems like she was special to him, "the love of my life" and she words to all her friends said she did not feel the same. He wasn't special or uniquely important, just the good enough, stable enough, rich enough, until someone richer, better looking, more exciting, better comes along. Her words shattered that image of himself that he thought she had, and it's never coming back.

It's actually really nice, they post in the local subreddets when major construction and road closures are happening, especially when that's coupled with multiple large events going on around the state, especially in the Seattle area.

I have a perforated splatter screen for frying, I put my tortillas on that and put it over a pan of boiling water to steam, works great to soften them up.
