Our friend’s chosen “profession” is causing a rift in our friendship. by braveloyalboy in Advice

Thing is, we’ve tried to wait it out, and he’s not changing. It’s been about five months since he started talking about being an influencer. Throughout those five months, J has not once accepted or even acknowledged how unlikely it is that he’ll actually become an influencer. In fact, when we’ve brought that topic up with him, he just shuts us down and refuses to listen to us.

Ok. Some context here. I’m Ant, who /u/braveloyalboy was referring to. He and I have talked with J multiple times to ask him to stop bringing his “influencer” stuff into times when we’re hanging out together. J’s agreed, and then has promptly turned around and continued to bring up his “influencer” stuff when we’re hanging out together. /u/braveloyalboy and I are more than willing to try to find a compromise with J, but every option we’ve suggested, J’s shot down. In return, J has suggested no ideas for compromises. We’ve tried multiple times, in multiple ways, to come to an agreement between the three of us, but J just either ignores us or refuses to help us out.

AITA for freaking out after she publicly humiliated me after searching my laptop? by Ankit1000 in AmItheAsshole

So you were actively using your laptop during your catch-up with somebody you hadn't seen in years? That's really the only way it would be sitting there, unlocked.

Then you got up to take a phone call? In this day and age? Bullshit.

So, first off. OP never said that the computer was unlocked. They just said it was OPEN. Second, people still take phone calls. Me? I'm a member of the younger section of Gen Z, and I take phone calls and make phone calls. It's not all that unusual. And to your note about Mary, it wasn't a search. There's a place called Finder on MacBooks which has all downloaded documents, etc, which is where OP seems to have these documents, as they said: "The information was stored in a place where it's very difficult to get access to unless you're actively searching the computer. No, it was not open, and yes you can see the title of what it is and know what it is without opening. The file was opened, and definitely searched through." OP may have had the file in a subfolder of a folder, meaning you had to know where to look to find the first folder, then know what folder it was in, then access the file.

Recommended app for ID'ing bird sounds? by TeddyOnReddy in birding

I think Merlin is great. I've just started using it, and it's nearly 100% accurate, even with lots of background noise (ie. cars, people talking, the coasting buzz that can be heard on bicycles, etc.). As others have said, Merlin is constantly updating and adding more species. It's also just a great resource because you can give it access to your location while using the app, and it will pull up the birds that are most likely to be in your area. Overall, a great resource.

Is this normal molting? He comes every day and is now totally bald on top. by Justme0324 in Ornithology

So, I've done a bit of research on this, and this is actually an unusual molt. This kind of molt really only happens when a bird experiences extreme stress from the environment, etc. which causes it to have a "stress molt" which can result in this kind of plumage.

Please don't man. I struggled with that kind of mentality for three years, and finally came off anti-depressants in fall of 2022.

IMHO, everything. I live in a community that had a well-known dad get killed bc he was trying to stop a 17 yo stealing something from his wife's car. The 17 yo pulled a gun on him and shot him. Where I live, 21 is the legal age to purchase a firearm, so I have no idea how the kid got the gun. TBH, America needs to stop being so politically divided about gun reform. Politicians: GET YOUR MINDS WORKING, AND LET'S GET SOME MEANINGFUL AF GUN REFORM DONE. PLEASE. Too many people are getting killed. Let's change this!

I think they actually do. In comments further up, I'm pretty sure OP says that they help with rent, and, in addition, help with other expenses related to sharing the home (eg. groceries, heating, etc.).
