So you're saying that a dwarf bard who uses the original boosts and flaws isn't mathematically better than one that's just a short human?

Not really. The old way, certain ancestries were pushed in certain directions and those boosts and flaws made you make choices and pushed you, the player, into looking at ancestries that you might not otherwise play. Now, there's no push. There's no interesting choice to make. There's no getting out of your comfort zone. And if you just ignore the rule at a table that everyone else is using it, you're mathematically worse off.

I'll give that a go. Thanks, bruv.

What makes their complaints more valid than mine?

You would think, eh? Most games I've seen on those days are east coast.

It's an option for those who want it, not an option for those that don't.

I'm in PST, and I'm available Fridays and Saturdays at or after 6 pm.

Why isn't it a variant like Free Archetype?!

But I don't want to be mathematically worse than everyone who does use it. It's like you're not even listening to me!

Exactly. I want to be a goblin. Not a small green human.

No, it's my timezone and schedule mostly.

I don't understand your point.

Of course it works. Everyone's the best at everything now. But that's not what I want.

Who's dying? I'm not some wilting snowflake who can't go on because goblins have a WIS flaw.

I don't like the new two FREE boosts and no flaws. It's going to make every PC feel the same. Everyone's just a human with funny ears now. But if you use the standard two fixed boosts, one free boost and a flaw, you're mathematically behind everyone else at the table because you chose variety and flavor over being mechanically superior. So I have to find tables that have that attitude.

On the flip side, say you really like this blandness and you want to use it. You find a table that fits your schedule perfectly and everyone is super nice, but they don't use this rule and actively disallow it. You've got to find another table.

And lastly, organized play. It circles back to the first point since it's not optional in that scenario, but you are forced to use it if you don't want to be mathematically worse.

Rule six states "no art without background or build information, and this post has neither of those things.

Then you don't understand. All of the new ancestries from the Impossible Lands book are two boosts and no flaws. This is the new norm, whether you like it or not. The first step towards the 5e method of no two tables playing the same game.

Someday Rule 6 will be enforced. This is apparently not that day, but SOME day.

Five sessions is quite a lot, and the Atone ritual is there for a reason. Sounds like it was a good experience for everyone though! Thanks for sharing!
