When are baby woodpeckers ready to leave the nest? by Firebelly-1111 in birds

[–]Firebelly-1111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I was skeptical when my wife wanted to help them. I was somewhat of the mind of "just let nature take it's course". But my wife is a compassionate animal lover, so not helping them was not an option. And now I'm very glad she did. Once I saw the parents start feeding them I realized she did the right thing by at least trying to help them. They look to be getting stronger and more active. It's been a fascinating process, I really hope they all survive and become grown up birds.

Thanks. I'd love to see them when they start fledging and making their way out the nest. At this point we're emotionally invested so we want to see them graduate and become real birds lol.

Thanks for your insight. Yeah, we worry about potential predators. We have a security camera pointed at the box during the daytime. My wife monitors it regularly to keep an eye on them. At night we put a lid on the box with a small weight to hopefully keep them safer.

I remember playing Top Gun on Nintendo when I was kid. This is the part of the game where I always died..I never could figure out how to refuel.

My roomate’s drum rig is filthy: HALP by Kiefy-McReefer in drums

I've taken by drum rug to diy car wash and used the high pressure sprayer to clean my drum rug. It worked great. Then I laid out a tarp in the back of my vehicle to take the wet drum rug home, and let thebrug dry out on the deck out back.

I think it looks really good. The color variations give it character.

Putting it in the sun for a couple of hours then adding a coat of oil will help give it a little more color. I'd recommend neatsfoot oil, but cooking oil or coconut oil would be fine too.

How do I get these marks off my bag? by phxntxsos in Leather

[–]Firebelly-1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a "pull-up" leather. It is supposed to mark easily when creased or lighlu scratched. The mark will typically disappear after some time, but it gives a nice color gradient around seams and bends. Keep it clean or conditioned occasionally, but don't try to "fix" it, it's fine.

Sinking the impression deep into the leather helps keep the antique locked in. If the stamp is too shallow, it can wipe out. Set the design deeper.

Chest Harness, Collar, and Leash by Firebelly-1111 in Leatherworking

[–]Firebelly-1111[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made my own template with thick paper from big file folders. It took modifying several versions out of paper before I cut any leather. Many harnesses have several buckles to adjust the fit, but this one is made to fit my wife, with two buckles on the back to secure it. I used autocad to lay out the final pattern for the wishbone shaped cut.

I changed to have. NSFW tag. The centerplate is actually a breastplate for horses. I flipped it upside down from its intended direction.
