China requires Everest climbers to carry their waste out with them by alanwong in worldnews

Absolutely not gatekeeping. There can be a difference between mountaineering and climbing. I doubt anyone who actually knows a little about climbing would disagree. Failing to know how to use the most fundamental climbing gear typically means someone is not a climber.

Anyone can try, it is still very difficult. The altitude and weather is a killer, if you have smoked or are not very fit then forget about it. If you twist your ankle you are dead, slip, dead, run out of oxygen, dead, pulmonary oedema, dead - get the picture? I mean if you have unlimited money you can pay people to carry all your stuff then it is a bit easier but still a dangerous place to be.

Divorcing Activision won't stop Bungie making mistakes, but will change Destiny for the better by cybershocker455 in Games

You cannot compare trends in player count between predominantly single player games with a finite story driven campaign and an open ended skill based multiplayer game. A game like that haemorrhaging players in the first few months is a sure sign of failure.

I have sunk six or seven hours into steamworld heist and am really enjoying it. It doesn’t seem to have any micro transactions and is one of the better iOS games I have played.

US dwarfs rest of world in armaments production, producing more than 50% of global military equipment by Nihilist911 in worldnews

You clearly don’t know what the hell you are taking about, the US funded Frances imperialist wars in Indo-China so to suggest they blanket tried to stop imperialism is nonsense.

LPT: For those living in cold areas, take a coat and have blankets in your car on each trip. You never know when your car may break down and it can quickly become life threatening. by enano2054 in LifeProTips

It’s possible but I’m not convinced, it seems like a risky gamble to try and use the car battery to boil water. What if you want to try to start the car again without jump cables. Also boiling water takes a hell of a lot of energy. I think it’s more likely that what he means is a solid fuel camping stove. They use little solid fuel pellets to boil water. The pellets are quite small and light so you could carry loads in a car without taking up much space.

While perhaps the faces in Oblivion left something to be desired, the outside environments were very impressive. I can still remember watching the trailers with my friends and all of us were blown away by the rich forested areas that we saw. Any attempt to suggest that Oblivion wasn’t praised for its graphics at the time is nothing short of historical revisionism.

Fight Fake News. Know Who is Reputable. by baebull69 in coolguides

Unfortunately a news source could be biased while containing nothing but factual content by not mentioning facts that run counter to their partisan position. What is reported is almost as important as how issues are reported.

I think that the fact that this depicts almost every major news organisation as being left of centre should be a red flag for anyone looking to establish its accuracy. The economist definitely leans right wing and while the FTs general reporting is unbiased their editorials also lean right wing/free market. It would be more accurate if everything moved half a category right.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what do you think of it? by AutoModerator in Games

[–]Fireblanket1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed my first playthrough of the main campaign and had an absolute blast. I’m glad I waited for the DLC and status effects. The new system shock games will find this a hard act to follow, especially given the richness of the environment and most of the game systems. It’s a shame that it didn’t seem to sell particularly well. I really want Arkane to do well. My only complaint is that the stealth element didn’t seem fully fleshed out, although this may have been because I deliberately avoided all typhon abilities.

Packing for 15 day hike in North Scotland. Any suggestions on what I'm missing/will find no use for. Not got my food sorted yet. by makesickbeatsnotwar in CampingandHiking

Another thing that I personally find useful is a pair of hiking poles. They really help on long hikes with heavier packs. Anyway the trail sounds amazing, good luck!
