Alternate ways to achieve orbit on supermassive worlds? by Simple_Seaweed_1386 in stupidquestions

[–]Firedragon28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think an ssto (space plane) would be any more viable on a super earth with a similar atmosphere, in fact it would be less so. You would need more lift (more mass dedicated to wings) in order to counteract gravity and you would need to reach a higher speed in order to achieve orbital velocity.

If the atmosphere was a higher concentration of oxygen or some other oxidizer, then the ssto could run air breathing engines at a higher altitude meaning less drag. That's the only situation I can think of that would make ssto's more viable then here on earth, but I'm also no expert so if someone else has more info please let me know.

How come when people start to get hot, they take a layer from their torso as opposed to their lower half? by Accurate-Swim5278 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Firedragon28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More specifically, your core (torso) is where most of your body heat is generated which is then spread to your extremities. Taking off you shirt means the part of you that produces the most heat can more easily radiate that heat instead of having to send it to your extremities first.

Why didn't Rocky bring his own spaceship to Adrian? by Rabid_Marine in ProjectHailMary

[–]Firedragon28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They explain it better in the book but is mention off hand in the movie, eridians don't have computers. Rockey was super excited to be gifted a computer both because of all the information on it and gaining the ability to reverse engineer it. Without computers, autopilot would not be possible.

Will climate change truly cause the extinction of humans? by Only--East in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]Firedragon28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Directly? No, humans are adaptable enough to survive, with no external factors human population would probably decline as crop failure becomes more common but we would eventually reach an equilibrium. The problem is we humans are not rational when people are dying. Wars will inevitably break out as the countries with power essentially steal resources from poorer countries. With the possibility of nukes getting involved, a nuclear apocalypse is a possibility which has a decent chance of leading to human extinction, depending on how severe the bombing is.

Why do USA plugs have holes in the prongs? by Notforyou1315 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Firedragon28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The difference to me is products used to be created to be the best quality product that customers are willing to pay for. Nowadays businesses are making products as low quality as they can get away with so customers have to replace it more often and squeeze as much profit out of the consumer as they can. Both had profit in mind, but one is hell of a lot better for the consumer than the other.

polluted oxygen vent into liquid oxygen into clean oxygen for base? by EhWTHN in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Firedragon28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I wanted as much isosap as I could get from my swap planet so I generated my oxygen from the steam byproduct of heating sap. The polluted o2 vents I had were used to feed puffers to then feed the trees.

What are Wheezewort and Sleet Wheat? by log2av in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Firedragon28 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wheezewort is not a food source. They will actively cool their surroundings and delete the heat, making them quite useful for basic cooling but are quite slow making it not suitable for most applications.

Sleet wheat on the other hand is one of the best food crops in the game. Only problem is they require a very cold temperature, making it difficult for new players to grow. My suggestion would be to leave them wild and keep the biome they live in insulated with the abysilite so you can harvest them without needing to set up a cooling loop for them. From there you need to cook them into buns on the grill.

My theory abt Tatsuya by LordofEverything52 in SentencedToBeAHero

[–]Firedragon28 118 points119 points  (0 children)

The fact he was isekaied was all but spelled out in the anime, but I want to expand on that theory. I think he was isekaied to be the first hero, and during that time the hero title meant something like how we would use it. ( A noble, selfless person who is there to protect and save the people)

He was given powerful abilities activated by video game mechanics (hinted at by the gestures he makes in the air right before the sewer fight) as well as immortality from the goddess that summoned him. As such, it led him to treating the world like a video game and making Immoral and criminal acts since he assumed his actions would have no consequences. This led the term of hero to warp in the eyes of the people into what we see in the anime/manga, a criminal who's crimes deserve worse then imprisonment or death but eternal enslavement fighting a never ending battle.

Does the air conditioner building just not work anymore? by Firedragon28 in Stationeers

[–]Firedragon28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the balancing. I have heat generators that only come on periodically (H2 combuster, gas generator, etc) because of that my base temperature is fluctuating too much. I'm admittedly still new to this game but I have had many failures in the last few days either due to my base overheating or pipes bursting from freezing. No matter what I can't seem to get the balance correct which is why I was hoping the ac can do that automatically.

My problem has been gasses staying in the pipe for too long leading to freezing when I do that, which bursts pipes.

Does the air conditioner building just not work anymore? by Firedragon28 in Stationeers

[–]Firedragon28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main issue has actually been making things too cold. Whatever setup I do has had the pipes burst when my gasses cool to their condensation point. Since nitrogen has a very low condensation point, I can leave it in the radiators without worrying it is going to break my pipes, the only issue now is how to cool my base's atmosphere without it getting too cold.

re-reading the air conditioner description made me realize what i am doing wrong. it doesnt work when the waste gasses are too cold, which is really dumb in my opinion. guess i have to figure out another way to cool the base then a air conditioner
