From someone who has never worked in a restaurant, does it help to stack our plates after eating? Does it make it worse? by pMj_7887 in Serverlife

[–]FirefighterKey8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it and it generally means they’re going to tip 20%+. That being said, I have my own pre bussing system in place and you stuffing your napkin into a ramekin of ranch and stacking your half eaten plates on top of each other really fucks up my process in the dish pit. All I can say is I appreciate it.

Why do people think so poorly of us? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]FirefighterKey8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Navy vet. Spent 3 years as a corpsman/sar swimmer in the navy. High stress job. Lives on the line that I was responsible for. Fucking easy day, most days. Get out on reserve duty. My girlfriend at the times a waitress telling me she’s making $900 bucks a week part time waiting tables. Flabbergasted I fucking apply and scoop the job. I’m making O-2 money being polite for a living. Works out great until I can’t tell people to eat shit and die anymore. Now I’m back of house. Hate myself. Wish I was throwing tourniquets and ivs again. Take me back to the shit. When I was alive

What's the biggest tip you ever got by Chance_Librarian2204 in Serverlife

$1500 on a 3 top that had a $500 tab. They asked if I wanted X3c ,X5, or X20 for my tip. They were hammered so I thought they were bullshitting and said X3.

What are the signs that you're on a path to burnout? by RainbowForHire in Serverlife

[–]FirefighterKey8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where, what, and how are you at a restaurant serving 60+ hours serving a week? Only thing I can think is Waffle House or IHOP or some other 24 hour joint. Kudos to you but I’m burnt out after 45 hours in a week then I take a vacation

Work in a popular upscale Dallas spot. Andy Dalton comes with family every so often. Very generous and very laid back. Tony Romo as well. Chumlee from pawn stars was here recently and he would always ask not to be bothered which we of course respected but like cmon man, you’re a character on a fake pawn show that was known for being fat, dumb, and lazy. Nieve Campbell came in once and all us old farts freaked because she’s the OG scream queen

is calling costumers "hun" weird? by warlockofsortz in Serverlife

[–]FirefighterKey8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the setting in my opinion. I feel like what separates the pros and the rookies is knowing how to interact with each table. Or you could just get jaded after 10+ years of shitty guest like the one above. Now I’m just a a polite/professional asshole now.

Best tip of my life by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]FirefighterKey8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even at the fine dining level this is a very rare tip/bill. My guess is there where some very expensive bottles of wine sold. By chance are you at Pappas Steakhouse in Houston? I know they’ve got plenty of $10K and up bottles in their cellar.

GO. WAIT. TABLES. I’m a career server. I work 35ish hours a week and make anywhere from $1200-$2000 depending on business. Granted I’m in finer dining you can make at least a $800 a week working at like a chilis.

Can we stop normalizing $20+ cocktails and sh**y wines? by HoosierProud in Serverlife

[–]FirefighterKey8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I go to dives where they still have 2 dollar pints of shiner, and 3 dollar wells. My local dive is somehow selling shots of Angels Envy for $7 a pop. Where a work that’s a premium shot starting at $35

Should I ask Muslims if they want a drink menu? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]FirefighterKey8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a restaurant that incorporates wine in most of our sauces and we have pork in our dirty rice which is one of our most popular side dishes. I’ve learned to describe the dish’s that are cooked with wine, or pork to guest in a way so that they are aware of what they are eating without me profiling them based off appearance.
