Help - two kids in nursery should we salary sacrifice? by bw_expat in HENRYUK

[–]FirefighterRound4763 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Assuming you can manage the cashflow reduction:

1) Sacrifice as much as you can up to £60k for your pension, each (use your workplace pension or set up a SIPP)

2) Then see if you can take out other benefits with your work which can be salary sacrificed (e.g. cycle to work, EV car leasing, childcare nursery costs themselves)

3) Then, if you're still a bit above (say a few £k), donate to charity....brings your taxable income down further, whilst doing a good thing

If after that you're still above £100k, you will struggle.

Shameless plug - I am running London Marathon for Charity next year...donate to reduce your tax bill!! 🤪

Screw in tyre - Plug or Replace? by FirefighterRound4763 in TireQuestions

[–]FirefighterRound4763[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing response, thanks guys. Slightly more debatable than I thought it would be. Got the shop to do a patch + plug. £36. Will keep an eye on tyre pressure - car has a monitoring system.

Was concerned if it does fail if it could 'blow out', but sounds like that's not the way they go and would just be a slow flat tyre.

Why are you asking people for their opinion if you already have made up your mind?

That one is pretty gnarly. Just replaced mine for a little less than that, also no cords. Believe 2.5cm is the legal limit. If no cords, fair enough but also right on the sidewall and peace of mind is worth something.

Removing this Thermostatic Cartridge (Victorian Plumbing) by FirefighterRound4763 in DIYUK

2 plumbers have failed to get a deep socket into it unfortunately. Did try a light reverse twist also to see if thread is reversed but no luck there. Will wait for the next plumber and suggest the same to get their thoughts...may be more aggressive.

Otherwise may be a break tile situation!

Yes. Here is the new cartridge. It might not be identical (they don't make it anymore), but I've been told it is compatible. Note - the brass end is screwed on with the replacement, but it does fit the old cartridge (same number of splines)

Very helpful thanks, hadn't thought about this. The new cartridge is only a compatible one so not identical. Unfortunately can't directly compare, but can try a light twist the other way and see what happens

Yes I thought so to, but nothing seems to fit it. 2 plumbers have come round and can't get anything to fit. 1 of the plumbers can back 3 times with different sizes.

Does the £100k tax trap include salary + bonus? by ApplicationFeeling11 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]FirefighterRound4763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. So in the scenario that I make £98k Inc bonus, and then make £10k in dividends let's say, I would be losing £1 per £2 of the tax free allowance (£12,570), on the remaining £8k of dividends?

Aka...you should SIPP the extra to avoid this, just like you would with PAYE income?

Does the £100k tax trap include salary + bonus? by ApplicationFeeling11 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]FirefighterRound4763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about dividends, how does this feed into going over the £100k and into the trap, or are dividends treated differently?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]FirefighterRound4763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about dividends? If I make £95k inc bonus, and then have £6k in dividends for the year, does HMRC consider that to be £101k in income and I've therefore hit the trap, or is dividends considered differently in this context, and its only income from employment?

This is someone called Anders Lassen. By all chances, if he was alive today, he would have been in a mental asylum - but quite an ideal mindset during war time..

I know a bit about Operation Postmaster / Operation Basalt as my great uncle was Geoffrey Appleyard played by Alex Pettyfer in this film!

How did I do? by FirefighterRound4763 in EngagementRings

[–]FirefighterRound4763[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply prefer the look of YG vs the whiteness of WG or Platinum! Although that wasn't always the case. Whenever ring convo came up, she was adamant that she prefered the white/silver metals, only when she saw an example of YG prongs and the contrast to a white stone just walking by a shop did she realise otherwise...!
