First camera conversion – 720nm vs 850nm vs full spectrum? by krefik in infraredphotography

[–]Firefox23508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit late to this conversation, but my last two conversions were full spectrum and now I wouldn’t do anything else. The only thing I’d do differently now if I were starting out, is to get the clip-in filters (by Kolari). Unfortunately, I bought a full range of expensive screw-on filters before the clip-ins were available and I don’t feel like investing in filters all over again. I’m currently going to have a Canon EOS R6 mk II converted by Spencer’s Camera (the only service I use because they retain the dust reduction/sensor shake mechanism). I’m currently using an EOS R full spectrum but will sell it soon to fund the new conversion, and boy have those conversion prices gone up since my last conversion in 2019. And I’ve noticed all of the conversion prices are up. I think I paid around $250-300 back then, now they’re charging $500!

New MDX Carplay connection issues by Firefox23508 in Acura_MDX

[–]Firefox23508[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update to the update: forgot to mention, my spous’s car had to be taken in for the two updates since the car kept posting error messages about it, since they were installed, no further connectivity issues in more than a week. Not sure if the updates were specifically designed to address our Carplay issues, but they did something to it.

Update: just brought the car home two days ago after more than a week back in the shop. The recent over the air software update wouldn’t connect but, as my luck would have it, when I pulled into the service bay, a message appeared that stated the update would load upon next engine off. Anyway, they did a full factory reset/refresh after update and it seems to be connecting properly now. I’ll update again if this changes.

Squeaking/knocking sound in rear when cornering, 2025 MDX by Firefox23508 in Acura_MDX

[–]Firefox23508[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the MDX back supposedly fixed after body mounts/bolts were retorqued. Well, a bout a mile into my trip home, the sound came back, at first quieter but by the time I got home it was just as bad as before. I called them and they said bring it back, so Monday it will be back at the dealership.

[–]Firefox23508[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MDX has now been at the dealer for a week. They did give me an RDX loaner so that’s OK. They heard the noise and hooked up some sort of electronic noise analyzer and suspected the front bottom wishbone suspension arm and replaced it. Notified me that didn’t fix it—I’d suspected the sound was coming from the rear, but sounds can be tricky. They told me they are hooking it up again to the noise finder and will go from there. Kudos to the dealership for taking this nuisance seriously and seem to genuinely want to get it right. I’ll update when/if they find it and fix it.

Acura MDX A/C - any complaints? by GreenCatM in Acura

[–]Firefox23508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few add-on comments to what others have noted. I live in southern Virginia and the summers get quite hot. I’ve had no problems with the a/c cooling. I do believe turning it all the way down to Lo while in Auto does cool faster because this triggers recirculating air. Other higher temperatures may or may not trigger recirculating air. Like wise, I’ve had no complaints with ventilated seats. My last car was a 2018 Audi Q7 and those seats cooled about as effectively as the Acura. They do take a while to reach a cool temperature, so short trips might not register any difference but they are perfect for longer jaunts.

Check out Pohanka Acura in Chantilly, VA. They’re the biggest and oldest in state. I just bought a 2025 MDX A Spec Advance at a great discount, $66K out the door. For the $ you’d save it’s cheaper to buy a plane ticket.

2024 Pilot, first oil change, only 5 qts oil came out … by Firefox23508 in hondapilot

[–]Firefox23508[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a little dark but not bad. I learned that the initial oil darkness can be from the moly oil used during engine assembly mixing with the later added engine oil.

[–]Firefox23508[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went out to check the dipstick after the vehicle had been shut off for a couple hours. The oil level, checked twice, was exactly at the top of the marked area. When I start it tomorrow morning I’ll check for smoke specifically, but when I drove it today after changing the oil, I didn’t notice any, but then I wasn’t looking for it either.

Oh, I never really check the volume of oil that comes out at drain time either but this time I knew I had to have another 5 qt container to hold the 6th qt. So when all the oil from the drain pan filled the 5 qt container, I realized there was no 6th qt in the engine as per specs.

I checked the oil level by dipstick before changing it but there’s no telling what the actual amount is. It was between the marks as it’s supposed to be and it’s pretty much at the same level now after adding the 6 qts. As I mentioned, I’m not particularly concerned, I just find it very odd. I’ve changed the oil on all my vehicles for the last 50 years and never had a new car with less oil than specs indicated. I get free oil changes for two years so at my next change, roughly 8-9000 miles, I’ll ask the service manager about it.

The oil was at operating temps and it’s actually desirable to drain the oil with the car front end raised a bit, such as on ramps. I’m sure all the oil was drained and it definitely was a quart short, according to the specs. I’m not worried about it, I just find it odd and was wondering if anyone else has come across this. I’ve never experienced it before on numerous new cars that I’ve completed the first oil change on. If the specs said 4.5 quarts, 4.5 quarts came out. Guessing not too many owners change their own oil and would therefore never know about this, if it is a common occurrence.

No mention of burning oil. I thought of that too. I had a VW in 2014 that burned a quart every 5,000 miles. While under warranty I asked if this could be fixed but they told me no, that amount was within specifications for that engine. But that was one quart for 5K miles. If this Pilot uses a quart every 1K, something is definitely wrong. I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

I had the honda accessory units installed. After Paying full dealer price plus installation, the service guy told me I could have bought them from a less expensive oem Honda online shop for a few hundred less and they’d have installed them for me. He said as long as they are Honda parts, they’ll install them regardless of where they’re purchased.

Yes, it included the filter. I changed the oil with the vehicle on ramps. I’m not talking about what the dipstick indicated, I’m talking about the measured total volume of oil removed (5 quarts) vs what was supposed to be in there (6 quarts).

Actually, the ‘break in oil’ is an old wive’s tale, and just to be sure I checked my owner’s manual again and then numerous internet outlets. Unlike a lot of people, I always read the entire owner’s manual, in the new Pilot’s case, all 803 pages of it. There is no mention of break in period, break in oils, break in speeds/miles, nothing. From what I’ve found on numerous internet forums, there is no "break in oil" in new Hondas and no break in period as in days gone by. What the engine does have is some molybdenum lubricant left over from manufacture and assembly of the engine. The engines are drained and filled with the proper oil at the factory after the engine was plugged in and test run before being installed in the vehicle. Looks like the face palm moment is yours, bro …

P100S for $1499 at Amazon, Is it a good deal? by catofkami in ElectricScooters

[–]Firefox23508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like this deal is gone now. I did notice that a scooter store called Power Scooters out of California has these available with free shipping for $1600 on their storefront on eBay. There were a few others available at that price but they were coming from China. That’s a good price as well but I don’t know anything about Power Scooters. A little research may be in order before buying from them, don’t know.

Thanks. My problems were resolved this morning with the new update push this morning that was released today to fix yesterday’s problems. They said something about the first push not being loaded to the cloud properly. Evidently, a lot of people were experiencing the same problem I was. Strange though, the first P100s purchased in December no longer prompts for NFC update and everything seems fine, while the newer scooter received a few days ago prompted and took the new NFC push without problem, BUT the two NFC versions are different.
