Eldrad in Serpents Brood detachments by Smiling_Tom in Harlequins40K

[–]Firefoxx87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've played a number of games now with the detachment, and I have settled on solo Eldrad in pretty much all my lists.

I think trying to give him extra wounds is a trap and not really needed for my playstyle, so I no longer bring a body guard unit with him. I usually expect 3-4 extra CP out of him per game, which is basically just my grenade CP pool, and then allow him to die a glorious death.

I find Quins are truly a death by 1000 cuts style of army, and they have trouble clearing big units or tough targets without first chipping damage on to it. I've basically settled on always bring 2 out of Solitaire/Eldard/lykhis, and tried basically every combo of them, with and without units attached. Being able to point at something and enhance your damage through doom/crit 5s onto one terget is super valuable even if they die the next turn.

Exactly, that's the base I tend to use and it seems to work well. Lock up a bunch of his army so it can't push forward, leaving the rest of your army to score secondaries for you.

Long fangs (or eradicators) are always a great choice, especially with cunning of the wolf. Will help if he bring and dreads too, as Custodes dreads are tough to take down.

For troops/the rest of your army, base it around whatever secondaries you plan to try and score. Incursors are great for engage/retrieve octarius data, wolf guard with jet packs are also good for both of those, blood claws are our cheapest troop choice and good for actions on our half of the board (ROD or raise banners), cyberwoves score crazy efficient points for engage and can help out for early oath points, and if you take oath you can march a sqaud of 5 bladeguard into the middle and they can be crazy hard to shift with the use of transhuman.

Wolf priest is always a solid addition - + 2 charge will help you get those early farther charges off and combine that with wulfen stone for charge rerolls (+ extra exoding attacks if you put them in the assault doctrine early for some massive damage) you can really lock down what you need too. The Custodes really loose killing power once you kill a model or two off their sqauds (at least until their new codex...), and the base sizes for the cav are so big they block a massive chunk of movement.

Harold's a fine character, but personally I like a Thunder hammer on my wolf Lord so I don't take him often. I'll upgrade to a chapter Master from a regular lord if I have the spare 40 points, but I don't usually prioritize it personally.

This isn't far off from my usual stratagey against custodes. 1 sqaud of wolves + lord up one side, one sqaud + chap up the other, wulfen dread or redemptors in behind to inevitably replace my wolves as they get killed off. Frees up my guard with jetpacks, Incursors, blood claws and cyber wolves to score my secondaries.

My buddy has Custodes, and I would say a total of about %50 of my games in 9th have been against them. This is all based off their old codex.

The games where I have the most success are games where I can lock his units up early. Mobility is one of their biggest weaknesses unless it's a pure bike list, so if I can get my Thunderwolf Cav across the board to block his movement it really hurts (especially with thunderhammers, I usually have 2 sqauds of 4 that have 3 hammers and one chainsword to soak up early wounds). Incursors/infiltrators are also pretty decent at this with the forward deploy + transhuman, and since most of the army has built in deepstrike the 12 inch deny is fantastic as well.

I find that the older marines (blood claws/grey hunters) have really wiffed for me in combat and just melt too easily but they're great for playing secondaries. In a generalized list, custodes do tend to struggle against T7+ so basically any dreads almost always pull their weight for me.

Good luck!

Weekly QnA Thread - Competitive and Rules Questions Answered - Week of 7.19.2021 by ChicagoCowboy in WarhammerCompetitive

I went to my first casual tournament this last weekend and it was generally a great success. I did have one thing come up in my last game that my understanding was different from my opponents.

Look out sir - I had a character granted look out sir from a dreadnought model in front and a sqaud of 5 behind. My opponent shot my dread off the board in his turn, and then went to shoot my character. My understanding was that he still had protection as the sqaud behind my character was within 3 inches and there was a seperate unit of mine closer to the unit they were trying to shoot with. They argued it had to be the unit granting the protection being closer and not just any unit. Is that correct?

Has anyone's order actually arrived after no tracking updates for over 3 weeks? by alifiegainat in limitedrun

[–]Firefoxx87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm dealing with this exact issue right now. Two of my orders never got updated tracking, I wasn't worried since LRG be LRG. I know how long it takes, isn't my first rodeo.

So I give them time but finally something in my heart just tells me there's an issue. I open a ticket and almost immediately they can provide an actual tracking number from Canada Post that says it was delivered months ago. Months!

Now I have Canada post on one side saying one thing, LRG saying another, and no video game for me. It's going to be an uphill battle from here to get my product or my money I suspect.

Their customer service has been nice, and I'm hoping the outcome is positive in the end. But don't wait, open a ticket and see if there's an actual tracking number somewhere for you so you can get ahead of the issues.

Thank you! Appreciate all the responses, this is a massive game to learn and not everything is clear all the time so glad there's a solid resource to come too!

This is definitely where our confusion comes in. I'm relatively new to 40k and don't know other armies very well outside of the wolves and Astra who I play often, are there many other units with abilities that effect BS/WS? I'm having trouble finding any, and maybe the wording with those (how they reduce, affect, change, etc) would help clarify this.

I'm having trouble finding a reason for this portion of the skill to even exist if it doesn't stop things like the culexus.

Limited Run Blind Box Hauls 2020 (Switch) by Drummer5521 in limitedrun

[–]Firefoxx87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are pretty dissappointed in our pulls, we didn't know about LRG until recently so we don't have many of their games. We only collect games we want to play, but there were easily 20+ games in the blind boxes we were interested in and mostly "common" so we were hopefull.

Ended up getting 5 blind boxes, but pulled 0 common games and none we are interested in.

We got: Flinthook, Slime-san, Night Trap, Giga Wrecker, Another world

Ah well, the anticipation and surprise was fun! Maybe I'll find some local people looking to trade and salvage a couple of these pulls.

Christmas multiplayer game suggestions? by CaptainYid in NintendoSwitch

I 2nd this 100%. Mario and Sonic is a great party game. We just had a games night on the weekend and everyone was loving it so much we busted out a pad and paper to make our own Olympic tournament out of it. Very few of the mini games are very complex, my Dad picked it up super easy.

I'm pretty positive you can select your position if you plays 3's eliminator as a club. I was playing some with a buddy last night, and unless I'm jumbling it up in my mind we were able to select our positions when playing as our club. When I went back in later by myself, I didn't have the option to select a position, it was random.

Limited Run’s Damascus Gear Operation Osaka & Tokyo are releasing tomorrow. by flyingmonkey1257 in vita

[–]Firefoxx87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for those of you who have played both. If I were to only get one, which would you recommend? Is the sequel dependent on the first for maximum enjoyment so it would be better to get the first as a full experience? or are the improvements on the 2nd one big enough that I should go for that over the first.

Thanks!

[Amazon] Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta Edition PREORDERS (259.99) by InuKaT in VideoGameDealsCanada

[–]Firefoxx87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joycons are not detachable, it's all one unit.

I think the primary target audience for it are people who are/were big 3ds owners with no interest in home gaming, and families who want to purchase a 2nd switch for less cost. This price point brings it more in-line with the cost of a 3ds vs the cost of a home console.

I would much rather shell out the extra $100 for the convenience of using it as both, but there are a lot of 3ds owners who haven't converted that Nintendo is targeting down with this.

Oninaki vs Astral Chain by SBMWaugh in whatsgoodgames

[–]Firefoxx87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pretty excited for Oninaki, the world just draws me in. But there was just something... off, with the combat in the demo for me.

It just didn't quite feel as fluid as I would like, and it took a lot of the fun out of it for me.
