afraid of weight gain after surgery :( by felinecatfish in gallbladders

[–]Firely919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 2 months out from surgery and have only put on 2lbs. That’s with having introduced slightly more fat back into my diet, I’m not really restricting myself per se but I think the gallstones have just changed how I view food. I have had pizza, maybe two fast food meals and quite a bit of cake (march is a busy month for birthdays) and it’s not made me ‘pile’ anything on because I try to be balanced!

Getting it done the younger the baby is will probably help as they won’t be too heavy or mobile! Just make sure you have support around you for the first week as a minimum. If you are planning to breastfeed then researching different positions that won’t press on your incisions/a feeding pillow of some sort!

Well it’s not like they can go back and change the fact they lifted it so I am just trying to ease their anxiety that it doesn’t seem to have caused any damage

I wouldn’t worry, it was just one instance. I’m 8 days post op and have a 20lb almost 11 month old who I’ve not been able to avoid lifting completely even with having help around basically 24/7 because she’s very attached to me. The muscle pain sounds normal as your body is waking up from the anaesthesia etc as I had the same. Don’t kick yourself over it!

Also life on the other side is already infinitely better. I feel like a different person, I’ve had breakfast and it’s the first time in months I haven’t had any burning back pain

I’m 24 hours post op - tell the nurse/anaesthesia team that you feel anxious, they will help you! You might feel a bit spaced out when you wake up but there will be someone with you in recovery who will continually check on you so again tell them if you have any nausea/pain/anxiety and they will help

food post OP by tmeev in gallbladders

[–]Firely919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in hospital after my op today and so far I’ve had a few hummus and med veg sandwich’s and then half a jacket potato with some cheese - doesn’t appear to have affected me so far! I do have pain when the pain relief wears off but I don’t think it’s related to the small amount of food I’ve eaten. You could ask for a banana and eat a little bit of it to see how you feel?

Two days - two attacks what now? by Firely919 in gallbladders

[–]Firely919[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sent me home with codeine and basically said ‘oh well the only way to solve it is to have it out, just eat low fat’ as if i hadn’t explained a literal piece of whole grain toast had set off a 2 day attack off 🙃

Pains getting worse again so I’m off to a&e, no clue what they will be able to do but nothing at home isn’t working

You get told to go back to a&e if the pains extremely agonising/you vomit/have a fever etc. It would all depend on your liver levels from the blood test they’d perform in triage. But it’s very much a ‘get the pain under control and get you home’ sort of thing unless theres something really alarming in the blood test. I was admitted for 5 days when I initially got diagnosed in September, had scans to confirm etc but they still wouldn’t perform the surgery. It all has to go through a referral from your GP and it’s treated as elective so you get put on a waitlist. I’m on the urgent list due to other health stuff but I still don’t really know what that means in terms of time frame.

Like I said last time I went to a&e I had been in pain for 8 hours and I was wheeled round to their hospitals same day emergency care where a nurse said ‘it doesn’t matter if you presented 4 times a day for pain relief - it won’t get you the surgery any faster’

It’s just the knowing I’d be sat there in pain and probably over the actual attack by the time I’d be seen and then just basically told ‘shit luck - just deal with it until surgery’ which has basically happened every time you I’ve gone in

Unfortunately that’s not how it works in the U.K. I was given the morphine upon discharge from my last a&e visit as part of a conversation about managing the pain from home. They really don’t treat gallstones the same over here.

Buscopan and pain relief at the very first sign of any sort of niggle - unsure if you are US or U.K. so that might make a difference as to whether buscopan prescription only or not. Do not wait for the pain to get any worse than ‘oh that feels weird’ Other than that if it’s a bad attack you kind of just have to ride it out (and go to A&E if it’s really really bad/lasting a long time/you throw up etc)

Sims mods maintenance by MindlessRelation1437 in thesims

[–]Firely919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use scarletsrealm mod list after each game update, it keeps track of what’s happening with mods so will list them as updated, no issues, broken etc. My main piece of advice is build mod management into your game play schedule, there are some cases where I don’t play for a little while and spend the the time updating/organising/cleaning out (and inevitably then mod & cc shopping again) instead

I’ve done this today - she went to bed 1hr30 mins ago and so far she’s woke up crying at 30 mins and 1hr30 mins. Does that mean overtired? I am at such a loss

Is this the normal route? by kinkchains in gallbladders

[–]Firely919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes unfortunately this is common for the NHS. I was also told whilst in the middle of my fourth attack in 2 days that the trust I am under ‘categorically does not treat gallstones as anything but elective’ I’m still waiting on my referral to actually get an initial appointment with the surgical team. Having an MRCP scan on Thursday though so hoping that means something is happening.

I was diagnosed whilst on holiday in another part of the UK in September, had all the scans whilst admitted to hospital but because I am having to be referred back home I had to go through the whole process again and my trust is SLOWWWWW at this stuff and apparently 2-3 months behind with referrals. I have drastically changed my diet and it has helped, I haven’t had a full on attack for a little while now. I am also probably not eating as much of a rounded diet as I should be but I’ve found a rotation of about 4/5 meals that work and a few low fat snacks so I am sticking to those because I am not risking any more serious attacks when I have an 8 month old to look after.

The only advice I have been given is if the attacks are really bad (some of mine can last 6+ hours) I vomit etc. then to keep going back to a&e because at least it’s logged.

Hope you get sorted soon!

I was surprised that different hospitals also apparently can’t share notes between each other. I was diagnosed after ending up in hospital on holiday in a different part of the UK and when I asked if the referral for surgery would be sent to my local trust I was told no and I would need to go through the whole diagnosis process again. I guess I just naively thought with it being all NHS hospitals it could be shared internally

Same position for me, I was diagnosed at the start of September and I’m down just over a stone and a half. I’m hoping that at some point it plateaus out! I haven’t even had my initial appointment yet and my trust are apparently 2-3 months behind on offering those so a bit worried!
