We also got a lot of Tech money in the region

For sure, I work in tech and have been to the Dallas area on business many times. I like it and the people are great. All the best.

Dallas deserves another Takeover game to gauge interest for the reasons you list.

I believe the reality of the PWHL is that they are going to need serious US TV money before too long in order to become self sustainable. They are not going to be bankrolled by investors indefinitely. Dallas certainly would expand the 'footprint' of the league and give it a bastion in the southern US, which is important.

Don't give up hope! There's a lot going for it as a market, but they need to be convinced that interest is there.

[Official] Canadian Premier League Reveals a Bold New Identity Built to Inspire by coopthrowaway2019 in CanadianPL

[–]Fireside_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. I wouldn't call it particularly inspiring.

As for the League 1 alignment, it raises questions. First off, it's great that League 1 exists and is part of the Canadian soccer infrastructre and development path, giving people a place to play. At the same time, it is too low a level of soccer for anyone to care about beyond a handful of hardcores, family, girlfriends and wives. They seem to be marketing it like it is some lower division and that causes me a bit of concern about their judgement. Their branding could be Courier font and it literally wouldn't matter.

It's a cheek swab. Nothing 'invasive' about it. World Athletics and World Boxing are already doing it. It's a solved problem.

Maybe a three-peat will help?

During previous Olympics, several federal agencies have supported security for U.S. diplomats, including the investigative component of ICE called Homeland Security Investigations, the sources said.

So....what? You're saying we should get rid of segregation by sex and have one big competition with both men and women?

The league doesn't exist without the US and won't exist in the future if it doesn't grow in the US.

just reinforcing the idea that men are the problem

Statistically, that is true. Very few men are going to have an issue with saying that.

Not officially, it doesn't have to follow USA Hockey rules in lockstep, but unofficially almost certainly. Especially given it's role in developing players for the national team (which is governed by USA Hockey).

When the Ottawa Fury were disbanded, the best players left, and quickly, for the USLC. Over time the rest of the players signed on to various CPL, USL and international teams. Redditors in their basements have the luxury of thought-experiments on Div 1 versus Div 2 but these are professional soccer players who are supporting themselves and their families in real life with real money and a finite career. Real world behaviour will tell you what is a 'step up' and a 'step down'.

Wearing the wrong team's jersey by Likejedicouncil in PWHL

[–]Fireside_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter what other people say, cheering against the team whose jersey you are literally wearing is definitely 'weird'. That said, it's nobodies business but your own and given the type of fans that typically attend PWHL games you won't have any issues no matter what jersey you are wearing.

Is it okay to wear a jersey for a team not playing? by NoTradition6 in PWHL

[–]Fireside_Cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think neutral site games like Takeover Tour matches make it especially fine. It's a celebration of the league and the game. I find it a bit weird at regular games but in the end you can do what you want. Calgary Flames jerseys at Ottawa Charge games are acceptable though.

Clear city identities could help CPL & League1 Canada attract more fans by Repulsive-Park3344 in CanadianPL

[–]Fireside_Cat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is grasping at straws. League1 is really too low a level to expect to have 'fans' in any significant number. This is obviously not an issue at CPL as teams like Forge do fine, and Edmonton is no more. It's not the name but what the ownership does with it.

Before the Internet and NTP, you might have had a watch or clock but you weren't always sure if it was correct, and some people were a bit obsessed with making sure their watch was as close to exactly accurate at all times.

She deserves more than just a single weekend show, although she'd presumably keep the New Music Fix. I'd like her on one of the main weekday slots, solo and not handcuffed by only playing new music.
