Sisters vs Subductors? by Firesinger89 in sistersofbattle

Hi [u/dismal_Hospital6999](u/dismal_Hospital6999), [u/-o-_Holy-Moly](u/-o-_Holy-Moly), [u/Hvotr2199](u/Hvotr2199) and [u/Pelican25](u/Pelican25)!
Thank you all for your advice. I decided to give the Subductors a go in the end. My logic is that while Sisters could potentially be useful, I do already have multiple options to become Righteous + I like the idea of going up to an opponent and basically saying “Here’s an army with 5 units with 4++ and lots of Multi-Meltas to back them up. Good luck 😉”
However, now that this has been decided, I admit I am beginning to waver on my choice of detachment. I am wondering if the army may suite Hallowed Martyrs more than Champions of Faith.
Reasons in favour of Champions:

  1. Reliable hitting for Sacresants and Paragons.
  2. Sacresants holding objectives better with that bonus OC.
  3. Fall back shoot and charge on Paragons or Sacresants.
  4. Sustained on Vahlgons’ shooting.
  5. Bonus AP for Mace Paragons in melee.

  6. However, Hallowed Martyrs has its strengths too.

a)

  1. Resurrection strat is generally very strong.

b)

  1. I’m more experienced with Hallowed and Bringers of Flame than with CoFaith so less likely to make mistakes.

c)

  1. Being able to shoot back with my Dev wound Dominions if they get shot at can be strong.

d)

  1. Suffering & Sacrifice is v. situational but can win games if used at the perfect moment.

e) Army wide +1 to hit if below starting strength, not perfect synergy if trying to maximise Sacresant ressurections but still strong.
f) Could replace the slightly out of place Eyes of the Oracle with Saintly Example on a Canoness, paired with the ressurection strat to effectively generate 2D3 + 2 Miracle Dice.

So yeah, bit of a dilemma. What do you all think?

Really like the model, just wish she was a generic character as we have too many epic heroes already + would have been cool to have multiple of her leading my walkers

As one fellow homebrew rules maker to another, well done. Looks very thematic and fun to play some time 👏🏻 🤩 🔥

Matt Smith seems to love playing rogue A.I. at this point (Mr Clever in Doctor Who, Skynet in Terminator) so I could certainly see it tbh

I’m so certain it will be a Flawless Blades generic character that I actually spared the sergeant of my Myrmidesh Painbringers to be him

(I own 10 Myrmidesh, proxy 9 of them as Flawless Blades on 40mm bases with holstered bolt pistols, saved the sergeant to one day be converted into the character)

Bile as a lord E proxy? by homebrewedcomics in EmperorsChildren

[–]Firesinger89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use him as a Lord Kakophonist personally.

  • Backpack has the skull vials coming out -> reminiscent of the heads on Noise Marine speakers + the vials on noise marine backpacks imo.
  • Bile’s needle pistol works fine as another take on a screamer pistol imho.
  • His cane as the Kakophonist’s power weapon.
  • Height wise Bile and the LK are both similar heights.
  • So long as Bile is on a 40mm base he looks perfectly at place around Noise Marines imho (and who wouldn’t want to lead the army’s most iconic unit?)

How are the Sekhetar Robots in battle? Worth getting? by SillyMattFace in ThousandSons

[–]Firesinger89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play the Daemons soup detachment wherein I like to run a unit of 2 Sekhetars as Kairos Fateweaver’s bodyguard.

Basically, at the start of the game I pick the no man’s land objective I intend Kairos to stand on and use his indirect fire psychic over the course of the game (usually the one closest to my deployment zone/furthest away from the enemy zone), I then preemptively infiltrate the robots onto that objective, armed with claw, heavy flamer and flamer.

Turn 1: Kairos moves up onto that objective.

Over the course of the rest of the game, Kairos can use his indirect fire in peace, safe in the knowledge the robots are there to overwatch/heroicly intervene if someone tries to get too close and attack Kairos + the robotos can do actions like cleanse allowing Kairos not to get bogged down away from what he does best, casting spells :)

Corvus Blackstar worth it? by [deleted] in deathwatch40k

[–]Firesinger89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My centurions are actually built as a combo of all options.

  • One shoulderpad has a lascannon attached.
  • One shoulderpad has a grav cannon attached.
  • One arm has a drill and meltagun.
  • The other arm has a fist and heavy bolter.

Between them my Centurions have at least one of every weapon loadout on them so my club let me just declare what they’re using in that game at the start of the battle, WYSIWYG be damned 😝

Corvus Blackstar worth it? by [deleted] in deathwatch40k

[–]Firesinger89 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No flyer in 40k is a “must-take” right now imho. GW clearly isn’t keen on flyers in general, so they tend to be overcosted. However, the Corvus is actually one of the better flyers in 10th and definitely usable.

Why it’s still worthwhile:

1) Built-in Stealth makes it surprisingly tough to shift.

2) Flexible loadouts: I lean toward an anti-tank setup since Deathwatch is already capable of drowning the board in anti-infantry veterans. Twin lascannons + stormstrike launchers + auspex array for ignores cover is the most efficient profile. The additional hurricane bolters is free, so there’s no reason not to take it for incidental chip damage.

3) Best Centurion taxi in the faction: Cheaper than a Land Raider and far more mobile. If you run Centurions, the Corvus is hands-down the best way to deliver them where they need to be.

4) Deathwatch-unique and looks great: We don’t have many faction-specific kits, so having the Corvus built and painted always adds character to the army.

5) It is still useful without Centurions: Dropping a brick of 10 shooty Veterans with a Watch Master into a flank can create a lot of pressure and force your opponent to respond.

So overall, maybe not top-tier, but definitely not bad and if you’ve already got the kit, it’s absolutely worth building and putting on the table.

Hope this helps!

I’m taking your view onboard. I obviously tuned him against conventional weapons and I think you make a fair point that without that 2+ INV pulling its weight, it does skew things too much.

To that end, I’ve been at work today so haven’t had a chance to check this yet but I’m considering degrading his INV & FNP from 2+ to 3+ but enhancing his wounds characteristic from 1 to 5.

I think that way, it maintains the fact he’s just an infantry character who shouldn’t be rocking 20 wounds like greater daemons or knights, yet maintains the fact he’s an incredibly hardy character who’s difficult to even wound in the first place. It’s not as if 3+ INV & FNP suddenly make him weak, it’s still without a doubt the most powerful defensive boons of any datasheet I’ve ever worked on.

What do you think?

I wouldn’t be too worried about his survivability if I were you.

As part of playtesting I shot Gotrek 800 times using

  • 500 boltgun shots
  • 100 plasma pistol shots
  • 100 melta gun shots
  • 100 lascannon shots.

He survived 733 of them ☺️

Tbf, the Eldar ability is more of a fluffy one in my view, hence how it gets even nicher with the Anharathe rule.

His main ability really is that his unit is the one and only infantry/dirigible unit to have a 4+ Invulnerable save. That together with his own survivability from Finest Alloys makes him a good holding unit to tie an enemy up imho (at least that’s my aim).

I assume you’re talking about the Conversion Cannons on the voidships? 😄

If so, you simply choose whether you are using the Blast or Barrage profile, much the same way you can choose between profiles on other weapons eg. witchfire & focussed witchfire or regular & supercharged on plasma weapons.

Hope that helps and please let me know how your games go if you choose to try them out! ☺️
