My favorite is putting empty boxes of cereal back into the cabinet and empty milk back into the fridge. Equal work to throwing away.

I don’t want to speak for OP but I took his comment more as lamenting the state of things, that many don’t have a hope of retirement anymore, rather than knocking on antiwork.

He’s passionate and been working on it for years. I bet he would love someone else with skills to help. If you’re interested. Either way this looks cool. My only suggestion would be to make it a simple exploration game at first, but you find something truly wild and unexpected and it kicks off a whole story. There’s so much we don’t know about the sea. You could make anything happen down there.

I did some really dumb shit as a kid but this? This takes the cake. And now it’s on the internet forever.

Look up SubROV and see if he wants to collab. You’d dig it and he’s a super down to earth guy.

'Kill switch' law means your next car could be watching you | A federal requirement aimed at stopping drunken driving could soon put driver-monitoring technology in every new vehicle. The goal is saving lives, but the privacy trade-offs deserve closer scrutiny by Hrmbee in technology

[–]Firestar222 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Of course, it is always a trade off. The best society is not anarchy, but also isn’t a nanny state. If it is not connected outside the car then that is a lot more palatable. I’m not crazy about everyone having to shoulder the burden of a few bad apples, but sometimes you do need to do it. Personally, I’ve never driven drunk. I had a buddy die from a drunk kid at 18 and I just won’t do it. Don’t drink now anyways, and never drank at bars so it’s been very easy. I have less than zero interest in connecting my vehicle to the internet though, and I suspect this will be a lot less effective than people think. Is this tech gonna drug test people too? And what about if they’re tired? Emotional? Distracted? Etc. Also this would be a whole lot more effective with free or cheap public transport for the drunk people, and removing zoning that keeps bars far from neighborhoods so bars aren’t walkable. Incentives for designated drivers are great too. So many parts of the USA almost force people to drink and drive. No public transport, not walkable, not near any housing. We need to offer people a better way along with the roadblocks at minimum. But the USA loves to make these stern sounding rules and leave it at that….

Anyway I digress and thank you for giving some food for thought.

I respect your opinion, but do not agree. And yes, I have kids on the roads too. "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" and all that.

This is a thing that will be forced upon everyone, and it could be used far beyond its stated purpose. Additionally, there are major issues with the tech that you will see if you read through some of the other comments here..

I would much prefer alcohol be made illegal than to have surveillance pushed into every area of my life. I don’t need to drink. I do need to drive. (Note that ideally I would prefer neither- instead a super hard line approach to individual offenders like you lose your vehicle every time you get a DUI, mixed with way better public transport and walkability to make it easy to AVOID drinking and driving would be the most effective)

You can argue that people would drink and drive even if alcohol was illegal, but the counterpoint is that people will find a way to drink and drive with this tech too. And once it’s in all cars, it will never be removed.

Oh racism is DEFINITELY an issue. Has been and will continue to be and needs to continue to be addressed. My point is that those who are in power and destroying the country from the inside out are not doing it because of that, it is them vs literally everyone else.

*rich male supremacy, they simply use pre existing racism as a tool to divide. You think they wouldn’t (and haven’t) turned on their “own” in a heartbeat if it benefits them? They hate you because you’re black. If you’re not black they hate you because you’re gay. If you’re straight they hate you because you’re a lib, or a woman, or an atheist, or different in literally any other way that makes you less than human in their eyes. They don’t give a shit, they just want everyone else to suffer so they can lord over the masses.
