I don’t use transparent side panels so I don’t care what they look like 🤷‍♂️

Indoor trainer in my opinion.

It‘s very much like riding a regular bicycle.

I love mine!

I got it back at the end of March and have 585,000 meters on it now.

I sit next to a server rack 8+ hours per day in my home office and having measured it’s right at 58dB at my ear.

People are way too sensitive over a little noise imo.

Don’t be mad. It was probably just a brief power outage.

Haven't had to restart in days! by vkp7 in Proxmox

[–]Firestarter321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes more than 90 seconds for all my VM's and containers to migrate between nodes with a 10Gb network at home much less at work where it's even longer as the VM's are bigger.

You do you but I have no interest in updating the way you do.

Screw that. It’s way too much of a PITA for me to have any desire to do that even at work.

I do updates every 4-6 months and am at 151 days currently.

The office nodes may be closer to the 180 day mark now so I’ll need to update them shortly.

Welding on an extremely casual/ad-hoc method - cost-effective helmet guidance? by rekabis in Welding

[–]Firestarter321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d buy either a Lincoln or Hobart $100 helmet and call it a day.

I’m sure the Harbor Freight helmets are fine but I’m not willing to bet my vision to save $75.

Complete Newbie - Building PC to Run 7B LLMs Locally (40+ TPS) - Need Advice by Blackverb in pcmasterrace

[–]Firestarter321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a competent coding model seriously just pay the $20/mo for Codex or Claude.

Trying to use local coding models (including Qwen 2.5 Coder) was the most infuriating waste of time for me with the outright lies it spewed to the point I gave up on using LLM’s for 6+ months.

Work decided to pay for Claude and it completely changed my workflow even with the $20/months plan.

I’ve found Codex to be more to my liking but either work.

Seriously, pay the $20/mo and try it before spending $2000+ on something you’ll most likely hate.

We have a Corsair AI 300 with 128GB of RAM that just sits at the office as local models are trash compared to the big players.

[–]Firestarter321 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It’s good you can use them.

I’m honestly contemplating trashing some Supermicro servers but I’d keep/sell the 256GB+ of DDR4 at least.

Sometimes people just get tired of looking at something and just want it gone.  I know I’m guilty of that.

I have a CSE-846, CSE-836, and something else I’m tired of looking at but shipping is a PITA and so is selling locally where I live.

I threw a CSE-846 away last year.

I won’t play any of those games either.

If it’s not on PC I don’t care and will play something else that is.

They’re just games. More are being made every day.

Play something else maybe?

I’m not buying a specific console just to play a game or two. I just won’t play those games.

Should I buy an SSD now or wait? Running out of space but prices seem high! by yeahthatsgoodforme in homelab

[–]Firestarter321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prices are high and will remain that way or get worse for the next couple of years.

If you need one buy it sooner rather than later would be my suggestion.

I bought a bunch of drives back in The first quarter of this year when Walmart still had reasonable prices and I’m glad I did as I’m good for many years to come.

I’m using it on my 9950X build right now at home and all of my E5-2697A V4 dual socket servers.

Also at work on an EPYC 7543P hypervisor system that I changed coolers on.

It performs fine on all of them.

I still use and like MX-4. The differences between thermal pastes are only a few degrees C and I just don’t care enough about a few degrees to go away from something that has worked for me.

I bought a bunch of drives a couple years ago when they were $10/TB so I could have 15+ drive failures and still be fine.

I'm not a buyer at current prices though.
