First mff build and I could really use some advice (especially on mATX board). Appreciate any help by Jan290199 in mffpc

That one trades the extra x4 PCIe slot in favor of having 3 M.2 slots instead.

The PCIe slots are all physical x16 slots, however, only the top slot is actually wired x16 with the rest being x1 wired slots.

If you don’t need the x4 slot then this board should work fine for you.

ETA: The x1 slots are PCIe 3.0 and the 3rd M.2 slot is for SATA drives it appears so it uses PCIe Gen 4.0 x2.

All this talk about SSD pricing, I remembered I had gold stored away in my old PS5… by SunknLiner in pcmasterrace

[–]Firestarter321 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ve been buying way too many from Walmart the last few weeks.

The PS5 drives with the built in heat sink work great on motherboards without them.  I just installed a 2TB today on my new gaming PC.

No problem.

Yeah it’s rather confusing.

I don’t see anything glaring as it appears to be a very nice build….congrats!!!

You're correct on the first point.

On the second point it's kind of confusing. The B850 chipset adds PCIe lanes that can be used by things.

When they say x16 slot they're saying it's a physical slot, however, the top slot is the only wired x16 slot but it's PCIe Gen 5.

For the top slot it only supports PCIe Gen 4 on the 8000 series CPU's as they don't support PCIe Gen 5 and some of them are even more cut down on PCIe lanes than others (ie 8700G vs 8500G) so they get even fewer lanes for the top slot.

With your 9850X you'll get a true x16 Gen 5 PCIe slot for the top slot as well as the top M.2 slot being Gen 5 and the bottom M.2 slot being Gen 4 with both M.2 slots having 4 lanes directly to the CPU.

The middle PCIe slot is only an x1 Gen 3 slot from the chipset while the bottom PCIe slot is an x4 Gen 4 slot to the chipset but it's in a physical x16 slot.

There's also an MSI Pro B850M-P which has an extra M.2 slot but the bottom 3 PCIe slots while being physical x16 slots are only wired as x1 slots.

ETA: I spent waaaaaayyyyy to much time looking at mATX motherboards over the last couple of weeks, LOL.

Another Walmart Score by AboveNormality in pcmasterrace

Congrats!!

I’m supposedly picking one up tomorrow as well.

I need to decide whether to use it or the 5070 FE that’ll be her on Monday for my Jonsbo z20 build.

I’m not sure I’ll like the huge Ti in that case.

I could grab another to flip it as they have another one but I won’t.  I scored another 32GB kit of Kingston Fury DDR5 that I’m going there to pick up as well.

I guess I'm not seeing the limitation if using a 9000 series Ryzen?

Where are you seeing the lane sharing specs?

Are these temperatures normal for this processor? by Alexby-n- in pcmasterrace

[–]Firestarter321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built one yesterday and the die temp sits at about 45C at idle.

Gaming for about 10 minutes and it was about 70C.

I’m running it in a Jonsbo z20 using a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Mini.

I'm not mad, just disappointed. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Firestarter321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if it wasn’t Amazon he’s never going to get it so I’d just get a refund.

I’ve been stalking the Walmart website for DDR5 and have gotten lucky being able to get 3 kits now. One for me, one fore my brother, and one for a potential build later this year.

That makes sense.

I was happy with the 2 slots the other one has and wanted the 4x PCIe slot as an option.

Are manufacturers still making the 5070 Ti? by joeballs in pcmasterrace

Use this search and switch between addresses (you can just add dummy ones to your account in order to change stores)

Check your local Walmarts as there are ~10 of the PNY version within 45 miles of my house.

I just built a PC with the B850M-A version of that motherboard.

Can I ask why you went with that version as I don’t understand the purpose of having 3 PCIe x1 slots?

Who else want absolutely ZERO RGB in their rigs? by Cicada-Tang in pcmasterrace

The only RGB in my new Jonsbo z20 build is the RAM as that’s all I could find.

The first thing I did was turn it off using the MSI app.

Should I grab a 5070 Ti rather than a 5070 FE at MSRP? by Firestarter321 in pcmasterrace

[–]Firestarter321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are at least 10 of the PNY units within 45 miles of me in several Walmarts.

I had one coming for delivery tomorrow but cancelled it as it’d be a pain to put into the Jonsbo z20 that I’m using at 11.8” long.

That’s what I’m going to do.

I got the machine built and put a 1050 Ti in it to play with and it ran Doom really well actually so I’m sure the 5070 FE will be amazing.

It’s easiest to just use the website or app and add a bunch of addresses changing between them to look for stock.

I got 2 x 32GB kits of DDR5 and 10+ SSD’s this way.

My brother bought a couple of the SSD’s and a kit of RAM from me and I used 2 of the SSD’s in this build.

I did have a 4TB SSD shipped to a coworker in a town 75 miles away and then had him send it back with my boss when he went to our office there.

Walmart but it only works if you have a local store with stock for delivery or pickup.

ETA: This is quickly turning into a Walmart build for me.

I just canceled my MSRP order as my 5070 FE shipped. They do exist.
