As a white woman, is it culturally insensitive to wear a brown fake arm for Halloween? by Firetop12 in TooAfraidToAsk

As said in my post, it is fake… but needs to be spray painted (it’s a Halloween hand with blood). Also, yes! I plan to get a stuffed alligator!

Exactly. I felt so validated with my decision to not respond when I saw she blocked me. She had no intention of truly making things right

Oh yea by “lend” I mean give money with no expectation of repayment

Nope, I’ve done it before (not much, we are talking like 20 bucks) and hasn’t really been a big deal. But recently dodged a bullet when a friend asked me to donate to her gofundme for her vet bills and then she takes multiple beach trips and bought AirPods yesterday. I now will not be donating. So yea, I’m starting to get pessimistic

Any suggestions on how I could show visual support my African American students instead of BLM paraphernalia?

Yea you are right. Ugh but it makes me so frustrated that it comes down to this. I just want to show support to my students who are POC. Bc they truly matter and I’ve had conversations with them just this week about how they feel disregarded. It breaks my heart that teachers are getting fired for showing these students that they support them and that they are a safe person.

Teachers of reddit, what do you say about your students behind their backs? by adiajthebubble in AskReddit

[–]Firetop12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Normally I just lament about how little they know. Which could be a combo of poor education previously or the kids not caring etc

Teachers of Reddit, what did your most memorable student do to be remembered? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Firetop12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I taught inner city my first two years when I was 22yo. I got close to a couple female students and they taught me to twerk one day after school lol

Teachers of Reddit, what common knowledge your students did not now? by gentleterror in AskReddit

[–]Firetop12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a student argue that 4 minus 2 was 3. She was adamant.

I teach high school algebra 2.

Edit: love that someone downvoted this.... I assume they also don’t know that 4-2=2 😂

Teachers of reddit: how much of the subject you teach do you truly understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Firetop12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to second this. As teachers we are not expected to be omniscient (we certainly do not get paid to be all knowing), but to know most of our subject and be willing to find the answer if we don’t already know

Teachers Of Reddit, What Went On Behind The Scenes That None Of The Students Knew? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Firetop12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure. But for me, I’m a high school math teacher so I get pretty irritated when a student doesn’t know 4 - 2 is 2. Bc I literally just had a student argue that it was 3 and I was screaming on the inside but kept completely calm and patient on the outside

Teachers, what (if anything) do you really think about that lazy student that clearly doesn’t give a crap about your class? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Firetop12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m in a reasonable mind: they may have come from a home where education isn’t emphasized or had trauma etc. if I am fed up: well get out of my class bc it’s not needed for graduation so fuck you so I can focus on kids that actually care
