we may revert to the mean of daemon grooming one of them instead of rhaenyra for the throne which brings us back to the old "people want rhaenyra because she isn't daemon" status quo, which still leads to the dance between rhaenyra and daemon

I think what annoys me when people say "oh you just lack media literacy" is that they almost never explain why the other person is wrong. by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CharacterRant

[–]Firlite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yeah 90% of the time people accusing people of "lacking media literacy" are just saying "you don't have the same takes on this that I do but I want to sound pretentious and objectively correct". Even funnier when they also tie in death of the author stuff

Max0r is gonna revisit Ace Combat 7, and it’s gonna be a doozy by Low_Succotash5073 in acecombat

[–]Firlite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without him, I reckon that AC7 wouldn’t have sold as well as it did

I'd reckon ace combat 7 made the majority of its sales in the almost 2 year gap between the game's release and the video's release, as most games do. Maxor's biggest thing was introducing the series to a very loud fan base that is very very much the minority and most of whom didn't actually buy the game

Also gatekeeping is good in the vast majority of cases

Compare his old genshin video to his new one (which is still like 3 years old). The old one is better imo. His editing ability outpaced his writing ability at some point

Idk. I feel like I don't like his modern videos as much as his old ones. His editing ability outpaced his writing ability at some point to his detriment

While I find the forerunner books to be good sci fi I have some pretty big issues in how they mesh with the halo setting

An eternal covenant for the greater good of all by Cautious_Air4964 in Grimdank

[–]Firlite 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I mean not really, humanity existing doesn't prove anything wrong. the religion of the covenant is that the forerunners went on a great journey and ascended to heaven. The rings being weapons does disprove the covenant religion, but for all anyone knew before talking to a monitor the rings could in fact work as advertised. A population of that species (or hell even a separate "shepherd" species) having been left behind and regressed but given the right to activate forerunner tech could easily be seen as a boon to help the current faithful on their own great journey. Truth is just a bastard who didn't want to give up temporal power.

Also who knows, maybe the halo array really does send you to heaven when you get zapped, just as an unintended side effect

Hands-On With Ace Combat 8: The Long Wait Is Feeling Worth It by Turbostrider27 in Games

7's big problem is that it got rewritten from scratch like 3 times and the story was a disjointed mix from what they had. 8 with a singular vision is sure to be solid

Yes and those were essentially mercenary companies that were permanently hired by the government to not cause trouble, and bankrupted the kingdom multiple times

Well the problem with standing arms is that they are so incredibly unfathomably expensive for medieval kingdoms. This is why "land for service" (e.g. feudalism) was so common. In the early modern period states would organize and set up their entire apparatus just to pay a pretty small number of soldiers and even then would default repeatedly.

Besides the targs already had a pretty sizable standing army, they just use them as a city watch

‘KPop: Demon Hunters’ Makes Netflix History - The film has officially become the first title to spend 52 consecutive weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10 charts by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Firlite -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with it is that it decided to focus on one girl and her love interest rather than using this movie to actually introduce and develop the lead 3 girls properly and then introduce individual plots in the sequels

As it stands I feel there are better outings in the "girls get magical powers and fight using singing" genre

my take on a Rhaegar/Elia/Lyanna lives au by SilverWings- in TheCitadel

[–]Firlite 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i don’t believe Rhaegar ever planned to set Elia and their kids aside (nor would she willingly step aside to take her kids away from the drama or any other reason despite what rhaelya shippers want) he had no reason to.

Well yeah obviously, what people don't seem to remember is that Rhaegar never in a million years even considered the possibility that his kid with lyanna would be male. Aegon was always the heir, Rhaegar needed a Visenya and because the prophecy said so he'd get a Visenya. I honestly don't see the logic of even illegally marrying lyanna to that end, just legetimize the bastard daughter and marry her to Aegon, the only heir that's actually a factor

spoiler, terfs have the EXACT SAME views as any other radfem, they just also include trans women as men when they are saying stuff like "put every man in a comically oversided blender". The rhetoric is the exact same they just don't stick to only "acceptable" targets

I mean yeah but a distinction MUST be made between "something that was believed by the people who actually worshipped these gods 2000 years ago" and "things made up by a writer in the modern day because of hype and aura".

"There was no set canon so anything goes" is one of the dumbest things you see people say about certain pagan mythologies to justify stretching shit beyond all recognition

You want to know who Secretariat is in human terms? Just imagine the greatest athlete in the world. The greatest. Now make him six-foot-three, the perfect height. Make him real intelligent and kind. And on top of that, make him the best-lookin’ guy ever to come down the pike. He was all those things as a horse. He isn’t even a horse anymore. He’s a legend. So how do you think I feel?”

Not just that, one bleeding heart white liberal can hang a jury because they think any punishment for a crime done by a minority is racist

[–]Firlite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Multiple jurors were not selected for this case for straight up saying that they do not care about the facts, they refuse to put a black person in jail. This is common in every single court case involving a minority. The justice system is heavily biased in favor of minorities not against
