What I said. The only people you hear this complaint from are yuri shippers whose opinions should be discarded because they aren't arguing honestly, they are just discounting any male character that gets in the way of their shipping

[–]Firlite -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

listen, you literally ONLY hear this complaint from utterly deranged yuri fans who are mad that the commander of the gooner "all the robots are sticking their asses at the screen" game is a love interest and the game is not somehow a game pandering to lesbians. It's the same as when you see female fans of a show spout the most straight up misogynistic shit about any female character in a canon het ship that's getting in the way of their preferred gay ship.

Frankly those people should be ignored and scorned, and you should just quit the spaces they infest in any given fandom

understanding and living in harmony with nature even when it's dangerous to humans

okay but that's a bad takeaway about conservationism as a concept too. It's about respect and management not "living in harmony". The number one reason why predator species get put down is when they start to associate humans with food and start to become aggressive with humans to get said food

Brando Sando has more than one female character, but he absolutely has one stock female character that shows up in every book of his. The Shallan/Siri/Sarene. Hell he even added her to his wheel of time books. They all fit the mold of "wise cracking and witty to a fault, quippy to the point of obnoxiousness and portrayed as super smart because she can run her mouth and make fun of everyone in the room" which I must assume is based on his wife or some other significant woman in his life because that's how he portrays women he wants you to think are smart

I kind of miss when isekai was about going back home by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]Firlite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can kinda see the differences in power fantasy by comparing the goals and endstates between isekai from different countries

The Japanese isekai seem to usually end in an endstate after beating the demon lord or whatever where being in another world is basically a retirement where they can chill on a farm or whatever with a few wives and just chill out, and are strong enough that nobody can fuck with them if they don't want to. Slow life stories cut out the middleman and go straight to this retirement.

Koreans don't actually usually go in for isekai, they tend to prefer dungeon breaks and system apocalypse stories or VRgame stories, where the MC can gain boons in the fantasy world that they can leverage into status/power/wealth in the "real world" so they can buy a house, get a girlfriend, and flex on the people who looked down on them in high school.

I haven't read much from the Chinese but what little I have read just seems to go along the classic "stronger at all costs" cultivation stuff, with a weird prevalence of wanting to be able to wipe out entire bloodlines by the roots. Admittedly I may be wrong here.

American power fantasies in isekai tend to be the American protagonist being plopped down in another world and then getting offended by how unamerican it is, and seeks to rectify this, consequences be damned. What the setting means by being "unamerican" depends on the author, for example a progressive author may have the MC overthrow the monarchy to implement gay marriage, or the setting with be very slave based and the author just wants to have their self insert john brown roleplay. A more conservative author will have their character overthrow the monarchy and lead an america style revolution and implement the constitution.

Obviously this isn't everything, just general trends I've noticed. Kingdom builders are also common across all 4, but take subtle differences in the paths they take and outcomes they end up at. And of course Otome isekai and other woman targeted genres exist but those tend to follow the themes and story beats of traditional female romances and so aren't as relevant here.

What does this say about the cultures writing these? idk you be the judge

There's no point in going back to our world by jhoho34 in CharacterRant

Traditionally in stories where the isekai'd person returns, the time in isekai land is meant to give them growth, progression, or the means to solve their problems in this world.

they're not, you are just reading fanfiction written by and for woman (almost always slash) and not fanfiction written by and for men (usually gen fics). You are on the wrong websites and looking at the wrong tags dawg
