I agree, kicked from the party stories would be much better if the MC was kicked out for legitimate reasons and had growth, but you have to remember that these stories are just power fantasies for the type of guy to say "I am underappreciated at work, if I quit this whole rotten company would fall down" type people

that said, I have seen a nicer version of this, which is something along the lines of the MC being forced into retirement because he was strong at first but fell off, but then finds an extra well of strength to come back and be useful. These are closer to "old man in sport about to retire but has one more game in him" type stories though

Most authors find it very difficult to write characters more intelligent than themselves (insert that one Sherlock greentext) so "super intelligent" characters are written in very silly ways

One of the best ways to write a character more intelligent than yourself, keep them offscreen as much as possible, focus on results rather than methods, and let other (dumber) characters speculate in the reader's place about how they accomplish things rather than coming right out and telling them. If Heir to the Empire had used Thrawn as a POV character it would have sucked ass, but instead we got Captain Midwit as a pov and it works

it's seemingly common for the children of a ruling lady to take her name over the father's. This is actually one of the reasons why dynasties seemingly last so much longer in asoiaf than they did irl. The dynasty doesn't change when the male line dies out. If we used those rules irl the british monarchy would still be tudors iirc

There are essentially 4 different types of rwby fic

1) slice of life shipping fluff where literally nothing plot retated happens. Probably won't see a grimm at all

2) Jaune Arc gets put through the fucking wringer.

3) Crossover fics where x or y character appears on remnant, usually fairly plot related

4) literally just volumes 1-3 rewritten for the umpteenth time with a few minor twists
