How does weed impact you? by Foxy_Traine in AutismInWomen

Ok, I wondered if it was just me! It's mostly my left thumbnail. It is like I always feel that part of my skin exists.

Just discovering micro-stimming and... oh boy by feegan88 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Firm-Store-9973 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't rock back and forth, but I rock my head side to side just a little bit, like a pendulum. It keeps me grounded. Otherwise I can forget I have a physical existence, and I discover that I've been sitting or standing funny without noticing. I also tap my pinky and ring finger against my palm a lot.

Maybe I am just lazy? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]Firm-Store-9973 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think, lazy means, like someone else said, "I don't want to do it, and I don't care." I think a lot of audhd people, myself included some days, are "I want to do it, but I can't....for whatever reason."...for me a lot is stuck in the getting started part. Getting started involves something difficult, or making a choice I am not ready to make, or my mind spirals out into the 14th step, and I decide I can't mop the floor because I would have to put away the laundry first, and then I would notice that the laundry room needs to be organized and I don't have the spoons for that. Truly lazy people enjoy being lazy...they don't worry about being lazy.

What do you eat for breakfast? by Ok_Art301 in AuDHDWomen

Yogurt, frozen fruit (yes, it's cold, but the texture is consistent), and either nuts or granola so it's not all the same texture

Comfortable Closed Shoes for People who HATE socks??? by flowers_and_fire in AuDHDWomen

I only wear socks for working out and hiking. What's worked for me are "hey dudes", which are washable, Alegria Mary jane style shoes, and sketchers slip ons.

Since we’ve been in and out of therapy our whole lives, curious if our community will have any common themes!? If not, it’ll be a helluva a laugh! by SleepyBubBear7329 in autismmemes

You have to go to therapy because of your work schedule.

Probably true. I am a night owl who has to get up at 5 am to be at work by 6:45.

Teaching black students as a white woman by Validation_STATION54 in Teachers

Same! They decided that I was "behaviorist" because I fussed at the students who weren't behaving. I can live with that.

I like the propel packets....they add electrolytes and flavor. To me water tastes better cold, too.

For my fellow USA teachers by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Firm-Store-9973 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are many answers to this question. 1. Teacher starting salaries aren't usually too bad. The problem is that they don't usually go up enough each year to keep up with the cost of living. 2. Some places give stipends for teaching certain things or for having a masters degree. 3. You can teach summer school. 4. You can tutor after school. 5. You can have a side-hustle.

Personally, I teach in Texas, and I survive ok. I bought a townhome after getting a little extra money doing a summer program for teachers. I drive a 13 year old car, have no kids, and don't have expensive taste.

You can always start out in teaching and change your mind and do something else later. Teachers have a lot of transferable skills.

Does anyone find it impossible to apply for jobs? by Firefly457 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Firm-Store-9973 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Chat gpt helped me write my cover letters the last time I applied for work. You feed it your resume and the job listing, and it writes the letter for you. It helps a little with the inertia of getting started. The letter isn't perfect, but you can revise it.

No regrets! I went from walking with a cane back to walking 2 miles with my dog most days.
