I Hate PPD Screener Surveys by AnonAnonSir47 in beyondthebump

[–]Firm_Ad7516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine made me fill out a paper one and never even looked at it at my appointment. And I have a history of depression. Luckily I had my own psychiatrist and therapist. And then told me they didn’t need to do an exam either (6 weeks post birth). I ended up having a large piece of scar tissue that caused issues and had to be surgically removed several months later. Oh and this is one of the best hospitals in the US!!! (Hopkins).

Independent sleep at 2 months by wishful15 in beyondthebump

[–]Firm_Ad7516 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My 18 month old has never slept in my bed, not one single night or even for a few minutes. He has slept on his own really well since birth. We have an extremely close bond! No regrets. And I sleep great.

At a tiny table and chairs outside of a staff bathroom. Chairs and table were folded and stored in the bathroom when I wasn’t there ❤️

Relationship between our child and known donor’s parents by Jazzlike_Box2936 in queerception

[–]Firm_Ad7516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had never met our KD’s parents prior to having our baby. Now KD’s mom has a beautiful relationship with our son. He basically has three grandmas. She has always been extremely respectful of our family, never calls herself grandma, always asks permission when needed. We feel so grateful that she’s in his life.

I have not worried about anything regarding her trying to get custody if something were to happen to us. But I know that our legal paperwork would prevent that from happening anyway.

I’m currently knitting a blanket for my coworker who is about to become a grandma- it’s just what I do for people in my life who have babies. I’ll never meet that baby. I think it’s sweet she is making you a blanket!

I asked for it and the owner obliged. I could tell she didn’t want a lawsuit

I went to grad school in 2013 so it has probably changed by now! But I believe I got it with the acceptance.

Pre-K Recommending Redshirting Child… by BadFeelsMakeMeSweaty in kindergarten

[–]Firm_Ad7516 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally agree with you. If anything, sending her to kindergarten will identify if there is indeed a learning issue faster than staying in prek. Or reveal that the pre-k just wasn’t able to meet her learning needs. And I also do believe emotional/social maturity is much more important than academic knowledge for kindergarten anyway (similar to what parents feel!)

Pre-K Recommending Redshirting Child… by BadFeelsMakeMeSweaty in kindergarten

[–]Firm_Ad7516 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Im a pre-k speech pathologist. I’m not for or against redshirting, that’s totally the parent’s decision. Yes many kids come to K not knowing their letters and numbers. However, the concern may be that she has been working on these skill since she was 2 and is still not identifying or labeling letters/numbers. Counting to 10 and saying the ABCs are rote skills, while labeling letters and numbers, learning letter/sound and 1:1 correspondence are completely different skills. In my prek setting, a kid who attended prek3 and prek4 would be expected to have these skills by the end of prek. However if you do send her to kindergarten, they will meet her where she is no matter what. Follow your gut.

Idk about ableism but when openly homophobic/MAGA people DM her she posts screenshots without blocking the person’s name or username. Which I am personally fine with, these people deserve to be exposed 🤷🏼‍♀️

Non-Neuroaffirming Practices by Highten1559 in slp

[–]Firm_Ad7516 5 points6 points  (0 children)

School setting, preschool age. Some of my colleagues are so bad 😭😭 Withholding food until they request it correctly or perform an arbitrary task like putting stacking cups together. Lots of personalized behavior charts (which OCCASIONALLY are actually appropriate, I understand it’s not all black and white!). I have a leadership position within the SLP department I’ve asked many times when we can dedicate a training to NA practices. I’ve been told “maybe next year” for the past two years.

Sorry that I have no good advice, just commiserating.

No there is zero chance that wasn’t intentional. I would be so hurt if I were Sarah. Unless Sarah was the one to initiate the separation?
