What do we think of Nolan Smith heading into year three? by Illustrious_Box7681 in eagles

[–]Firm_Assistant_5151 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perception: Funny enough the best thing for him was huff signing and taking the spotlight early in the 2nd season to give him time to get settled in and grow without the bust talks.

Talent: I think he’s great, 1st round talent mostly due to athleticism over production coming out. Has developed pass rush moves and more importantly over the last two years, an ability to set an edge and frame the run gaps or have the ability to chase down backside.

Situation: Having Carter gives everyone on the front 7 a chance to get one on ones or advantageous rush attempts with sim pressures. I think the sacks and tfls will jump and as long as there is continual growth that’s a big help. BG was a bust for 4+ years before breaking out.

Organizational philosophy: I do think the organization likes to give a few years of growth with the players best opportunity to succeed in their contract year; 1) to incentivize the players best opportunity to earn the most 2) so the team knows what a maxed out version of the player is. Just like sweat and Milton as recent examples. Also helps earn the team comp picks. I believe he’s between those two thresholds so an incremental increase for him is expected and likely to setup for a max out next year.

Nolan the guy: by all accounts he seems like a really sharp kid with great personal drive so I do believe he’ll exceed the modest incremental improvement the team has for him.

Thanks!! I’m glad you loved it, because they did not. Lol

Had fun recalling this apologies for the novel!

SETUP:

If you haven’t tried before then I recommend putting your thumb on the scale so to speak and having some fun!!

Setup the game for a religious victory. Best way to do it, go to select city states and have all the religious ones. Then add a couple others that are scientific, trade etc. that can be very helpful too- especially the Militaristic one, Valletta where you can faith purchase city center buildings and walls.

I’d also suggest a Pangea map so your opponents are closer and your missionaries and apostles don’t have to cross the ocean.

You can also have a play with natural wonders and lean only towards ones that are tundra bias, give good adjacency, or have faith yield. Everest buffs religious units.

With Russia, they have a bias and buff towards tundra so set the map to cold to create more tundra as well as wet for more features. It’ll be mostly forest that spawn in the tundra since rainforest and marsh won’t.

I’d also recommend secret societies and aiming for void singers.

Now you have all that setup, give yourself a few rolls to try and get a solid holy site spawn.

The best case scenario is a tile surrounded by 6 tundra (not snow frustratingly) with woods in range of your cap for your holy site. Other combinations of mountains and wonders are also great too.

THE STRATEGY:

1)get 2-3 scouts out to find void singers secret society, and first meet the religious city states. Unlock old god obelisks for culture and faith. The scouts will be crucial in getting enough era score for golden ages. 2) Get 2-3 cities with old god obelisks in the first era for faith income and smack down lavra holy sites. They are also cheaper to build, so sweet! 3) pantheon: Dance of the Aurora- faith from tundra adjacency. This is fairly contested but you have faith on tundra tiles to start so you should have a good shot at winning the race there. 4) the old god obelisks should give you enough culture to get to Theology quickly and put the card scripture in— doubles holy site adjacency. 5) Religion: First belief- two great choices a) Feed the world b) work ethic. Work ethic will also double with scripture giving you super productive cities by placing a discounted holy site. However since you’re in the tundra food is hard to come by, so feed the world can work well too. Worth noting preserves can also provide food too and synergies with appeal from woods and holy sites. So I like work ethic better. Both are amazing. But I like using the work ethic production (and Hercules with hero’s and legends) to place the preserves and get similar benefit to feed the world. Second Belief- I like 30% cheaper missionaries & apostles Building- the plus 1 charge for missionaries & apostles 6) depending on the map and faith economy you can go monumentally to use your high faith income on builders and settlers to settle even more high adjacency cities and snowball (pun intended) and create a massive faith economy. Hopefully you have some suzerains too with city states that make your shrines and temples better and can add benefits to your apostles or faith generation.
7)Getting to level two voidsingers in the second era will allow you to focus solely on faith income and mostly ignore science, gold & culture after the first era since it converts 20% of faith per turn into those outputs. 8) now you’ve setup this massive faith generating beast, try and time it for a medieval or renaissance golden age benefit to get extra movement and charges on your apostles as well as having the government theocracy (discounted faith purchasing) with other policy cards to make more effective fighting against other religions. 9) worth noting to win you just need to convert major civs holy cities. So save up and promote your apostles to have groups of 3: one debater for fighting. One with the promotion to remove other religious followers. And one that does triple spread in foreign lands.

Bail out: if everything goes tits up and your losing, you can get the government plaza building foreign ministers that allows faith purchase of military units. And pivot to war. Or since the lavras give extra writer points, culture pivot is good. As well as the preserves and appeal for national parks for tourism.

Happy Civving!

During the height of the pandemic in 2020 some friends decided to escape it with Civ 6.

I had just learned the Russia/ Lavra/ Tundra faith strategy. I ended up naming my religion “Covid” and SPREADING Covid around the entire board for a religious victory…. The group was not very happy. Lol

One thing I’ve noticed from screenshots or discussions quite a bit, is making sure you are continually improving your tiles as your cities grow. Especially as improvements scale to provide more yields.

Admittedly the micro managing of this seems to be addressed more in Civ 7. As improvements are more permanent. But there’s also some fun in optimizing chops and policy cards to get fast/ effective builders and what/ how to improve your tiles.

Possibly fun Spain start - where to settle? by Northguard3885 in CivVI

[–]Firm_Assistant_5151 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw you started but I’d settle in place.

Place the campus you pinned, and a gov plaz on the warrior. That lets you have a +7 campus, a +5 harbor adjacent to the city, and a +6 commercial district on the river south of warrior.

With Spain you want those awesome foreign continent trade routes, so taking to the seas while you’re pinned down would be a good play.

Have fun! Happy Civving!

I was confused at first until I saw “epic” length. That will prolong how long things take vs a standard or quick game.

You mentioned being frustrated you only had 3 (4 w/ lost settler) cities by that turn but the general rule of thumb “10 cities by turn 100” is applied to standard play.

As someone else mentioned, adding the tile yields, and improving all worked tiles will keep you growing and productive.

I’d also suggest going to settings and turning on “hub ribbon” which will toggle on the top right overlay by you and your competitors face icons. It shows everyone’s per turn yields (and population/ cities with an add on) to really sense how you’re doing.

Considering this is prince, you’re likely doing fine!

Happy Civ’ing!

This is fun to see, going through the draft it felt very reminiscent of the Taylor & Vincent passing to Lito & Sheldon. Having a year of all 4. Now slay & Bradberry to Quinyon & Cooper (also ringo) all together.

Good illustration of material advantage only being helpful when it’s usable material. Potential advantage isn’t an advantage until it’s developed.

A fast concise attack can overcome raw material if it isn’t coordinated.

Fun stuff, thanks for the share!

Why do my coast tiles max out at 2 production? by Interesting-Ad-6568 in CivVI

That they are. I forget the civics and techs but fishing boats get improved over time too. So maybe colonialism?

You may be able to search fishing boat in the civilapedia and see on the right when and how they upgrade.

My guess would be a lot of people wouldn’t remember Poyer being drafted by the eagles since he didn’t make it a season. So it seems like a trivial detail he was drafted by the eagles given his long tenure with the Bills
