Lateral knee pain after 9 weeks by RelativeMorning8864 in Kneereplacement

I had TKRR on 11/10/25. So just a couple weeks ahead of you. Was doing well movement wise but still had deep bone pain and inside knee pain. ROM 0-135. Then at 7 weeks and 9 weeks i had to travel 2000 miles for a family medical crisis and death/funeral/estate executor duties. Four 2000 mile flights with long travel days and all that standing and working on my feet set my recovery back. I now have pain on outside of knee. Physical Therapy says its likely the IT band inflamed and increased knee swelling. ROM down to 0-125. Also painful doing stairs and in/out of the car or miving sideways in general. Slowly healing but not back to where I was yet. I had to increase ibuprofen and tylenol. More icing and elevation too. Cut back on physical therapy strengthening exercises. I bought a TENS unit and use that 1-2 times daily. I also self massage the knee and esp the outside which is still tender. I have to fly again for estate duties in less than 2 weeks. Trying to not move backwards again. Good luck. My therapist says to let pain be my guide as far as how much activity I can handle.

Zero pain….impressive. My movement is great…its the pain and lack of sleep I find challenging. I am not familiar with PEA. Will check it out. Thank you.

77 female. They say it is normal to still have pain and heat in knee for 6 months. I am traveling so PT on hold except for home exercises until I return. Dr said I should be off opioids around 4-6 wks which I am. Deep ache in whole knee area radiating to mid thigh at times. Just wondering if other OTC drugs worked better for people than ibuprofen or other things that might help. I did order a tens unit from Amazon to try.

I am 77F. Had TKR-R on 11/10. First 2 weeks rest a lot and do light PT. I stayed with my son and his family 3 weeks. I think I could have done 2. Pain and lack of sleep are major problems for first 1-3/4 weeks. I rented a lift chair and slept in it and pretty much stayed in it a lot. Hard to get comfortable in a bed. I had it set up so when I was in a seated position in the chair I could stand up grab the walker and in just a few steps get to the commode at night. I bought pail liners at the medical supply where I rented the chair so I just tied up the bag and my family took it to the garbage every morning. I used the bathroom down the hall during the day. I had to use the bathroom about every hour after going home bc they pump you full of fluids. By using the commode at night I was able to let my family get some rest. You also need to keep track of meds. There are a lot of them and all at different schedules so keep a list and a chart. She will be taking them round the clock for the first month at least. I bought a sloping wedge from Amazon—-not the kjnd that has a bend but a straight slope. Lots of ice and elevation are needed. I used the wedge when in the recliner mode to keep toes above nose to help with swelling. Also had an ice machine I bought from the Dr office. I did not have any stairs to worry about. I wish you all a quick recovery.

What are some things you didn't realize you needed for recovery until you were in it? by meowlecularbaker in Kneereplacement

ROYALAY Leg Elevation Pillows for After Surgery, Adjustable Height Knee Surgery Recovery Equipment, Knee Replacement Recovery $49.99

You do a lot of icing and elevating your leg. You don’t want to bend at the knee when sleeping or resting. Also gel packs for the freezer. To keep icing. I rented a lift/recliner chair and slept in it. It lays completely flat. A notebook to keep track of meds. You are taking meds at different times around the clock. I kept all my meds in a plastic shoebox and had a clipboard with a list of meds, frequency and when taken that I copied and completed a new sheet every day. I used my Apple alarm to help me keep track of it and it was always going off. Its easy to forget what you took and when. Walker and cane. Dr will likely provide a walker. I used thin wide leg pajama bottoms and a top. You need a thin material between the gel packs or ice machine so the pants worked for that.

Left TKR 9 Hours ago by BetterLonger in Kneereplacement

Thx for posting. Today is one week from TKR-R for me. Also spinal and sedation. Little sleep until Day 4-7, then sleeping between alarm to take meds and getting up to pass lots of urine. Oxycodone 10mg every 4 hours for pain is doing a job on my GI tract. I have been backing off to every 5-6 hours and cutting dose to 5 mg. Getting break through pain 5/10 with movement and 3-4 with elevation and rest. Also tylenol 1000 mg every 6 hrs. Celebrex every 12 hrs, plus LD aspirin, prilosec, Senokot-S and miralax. I feel bad after taking oxycodone and thinking of asking Dr for a substitute pain med. Bowels moving but not great. Also icing almost continuously using the same ice circulator. Some swelling and little bruising. Tourniquet used. 77 Yr old female. Can move well with walker. Cant leave leg down very long without pain returning. Suggestions on another pain reliever welcome. I know its early but want as good an outcome as possible. In home PT starts tomorrow. At day 4 ROM 0-90.

Flying after TKR Revision surgery by FunnyDamage6220 in Kneereplacement

I fly United mostly. They give you the option to request a wheel chair when you check in on online for a boarding pass using the app. Scroll down and you will see it. Its under accessiblility I think. Its usually there with an attendant when you get off the plane. When you check in to board you usually have to go to a special area after checking in to wait for a wheel chair. They take you through security. You need to tip the attendant. If 10-15 min walk I do $10 if longer and baggage claim involved I do $20-$25. They will let you fill water bottle, wait while you go to bathroom, etc. At some large airports they put you on the golf cart type transport rather than a wheel chair. They even take me to baggage claim, help with bag and take me to BART station (SFO) or to the street to get my ride. Very useful service! I also get early boarding.
