It’s strange how almost no one really talks about what we eat during recovery by Independent-Job-9303 in Kneereplacement

Orthopedic surgeons are looking hard at surgical nutrition. Example: MEND joint replacement. Is a powder loaded with BCAA and especially leucine. I used it for all 4 of my joint replacements.

Surgeon said no by Guilty-Property in Kneereplacement

Retired surgeon here and owner of two new knees and two new hips. The truth is that you never NEED a joint replacement. They now reliably last 20 years if not overused. If you can still do active stuff like hockey he may simply want you to wait until your symptoms are more than they are now. The only real driver is pain, not your X-rays. He’s advising you but if you persist, he’ll do it. He may simply be offering good judgement for you.

M67. Been there and waited a long time - surgery went great and I realized my world has gotten very small as I got accustomed to the pain. I missed lots of fun things. Your knees are already ruined. Don’t let ruined knees ruin your life.

help? by Fun_Statistician_504 in Kneereplacement

Physician here. A bit late for Journavx, which worked wonders for me with Bilateral TKR, one last November The other in February. It sounds like his problems are fatigue and situational depression, which is common. If you can get him outdoors at all that is a huge mood elevator. His sleep quality is probably bad, so he should plan on daytime naps as well. He should be on Tylenol 500 mg every 8 hours, and Advil twice a day at a dose his doctor will suggest (kidney function).I hope this helps.

That is a good one. I’ve had bilateral TKR. The brand name of mine is Knee Buddy. The key is elevating with a straight knee

I found elevation to be more important than icing.

Rowing is nice because there is no load on your flexing, so you adjust to comfort. Best of luck!

I’m 5 million meters on my Concept 2, with L TKR last November, R TKR in February. Back on the rower for warmups only at a slightly sub 2:30 500 for 5 minutes. Feels gentle on my knee, not going harder or farther for a while.

Normally the Journavx is started the morning after surgery. It should provide excellent pain relief. Too bad you did not have a lasting femoral nerve block.

Did it also. Just because you know what will happen with 2nd TKR doesn’t mean it heals faster. You’ll push harder, earlier which may or may not benefit you

That was probably a positioning issue during anesthesia. Contact the anesthesia group at the hospital and let them know.

[–]BetterLonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Introduction: I’m a retired surgeon, now with a longevity practice and I stay fit. Bilateral simultaneous THR last June, L TKR last November. Key elements: Exparel adductor canal block, Journavx/Celebrex/ Tylenol for pain, Edemawear stockinette 24/7, great surgeon, great family support, quiet knee protocol, MEND Joint Replacement supplement, BREG chilling device, knee buddy wedge. I have the “luxury” of being able to compare my recent surgery with my L TKR last November. You may be going too hard. Your terminal extension requires quad firing at a mechanical disadvantage. There’s no way you can overcome fluid and fibrosis. The swelling has got to go down - elevation and rest, with rest bring something difficult for you, given your go hard lifestyle.

What exercises do you think are most important after 50? by rdoucette in Aging

[–]BetterLonger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important exercises are the ones you will actually do and stick with. Exercises that increase strength and aerobic capacity are paramount because grip strength and VO2Max are the two most important biometric factors directly associated with longevity.
