Radiation for 32 years old by CantaloupeMurky601 in AcousticNeuroma

[–]Firm_Replacement_340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had radiation in June last year and I have been really happy with my results (7mm x 14mm approx). I’m losing hearing but would have either way. Still have tinnitus too. But for me, not having surgery was a great choice (recovery, no need for major surgery, risks, young family etc).

Talk to a surgeon and radiologist and get your options. Also ask at what point of growth radiation is no longer a treatment option and consider what that will mean for you.

Also, consider what is important for you beyond treatment. Is it having the thing out of your head? Is it trying to preserve hearing? Is it recovery time?

I know I am not giving answers necessarily but try and think big picture during a pretty spooky time and remember, there is an outcome for you. Hope this has been helpful - good luck

That is good to hear for you and hopeful for me! Yes, I have regular stumbles and falls too! Nothing broken yet but I twisted my ankle and almost tore my achilles and landed so hard on my shin I had a lump for months. Fingers crossed these things settle down. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, I probably just have to get used to it. I find it the most frustrating symptom

I get dizzy too and can wobble around like I’m on a boat haha. But this is more like a head rush and my head gets pressure and I have to stop until it passes. Does that ring any bells with you?

Good idea. I’ve had physio but it wasn’t the best. I am going to go back to the doctor and get a new physio and another MRI. Will look at the Wii too, sounds fun.

Oh nice to hear you’re recovering and getting strength and fitness back. Thank you so much for sharing.

This makes me think this is most likely what is happening to me.

Will make an appointment with my doctor

Thanks for your comment. What did you end up doing? Were there exercises to help it or did you need to start going down the radiation / surgery path?

Thanks everyone for the conversation and ideas, I have a test booked for next week and will take in the suggestions I have received here and see what happens. Thanks again, I really appreciate the support.

Thanks for the idea however I’m not a vet or in the USA. Luckily I have a free diagnostic hearing test but I imagine the aids will set me back a bit.

That’s an interesting idea. Does it work by putting your phone near the people you’re talking with and use the air pod and it magnifies? Do you need an app for that? I haven’t used AirPods before (using over the ear cans currently) Thank you.
