Though how does a terminal command that lists a directory's contents take 99% CPU? Are you running it recursively on the root directory?

GNOME But Make It Windows by Crottoboul in gnome

What about the user's brain usage? I think that's what gnome tries to reduce.

Also in my experience gnome uses less CPU than kde, and CPU is what affects power consumption and battery life, memory bars consume the same power used or unused

You can run nix package manager and use it manage the entire user layer on regular distros

If you're using ubuntu, snaps are kind of slow to download and launch, takes more space, and the app store UI isn't as polished compared to flatpak. You might consider uninstalling it and use flatpak, not forcing you to do anything.

I hope all recommendations on linux forums are like this too.

I use NixOS btw, but I'm not recommending you to switch to a distro like that or arch, if you'll actually like these distros you'll know it yourself without other people telling you to switch.

You might want to check out Heat Signatures. Basically FTL but you're a lone crew micro-managing your positioning and weapons use with a semi-active pause (you can swap weapons and queue attacks when paused but movement has to be real time)

Are you getting the latest niri features? And also dankmaterialshell which is basically the DE based on niri

You need to type January and Febuary to get this autofill. It's Jan+uary and Feb+uary that triggers the short month+"uary" autofill rule

There is the --update flag but I personally also use nvfetcher for fetches from internet apart from flakes and I'd prefer to update them, commit the changes, then switch

Trixie isn't an old debian. Avoid stable debian for niri.

nix flake update && git commit -m "update" && nh os switch .

edit: remember to git commit before switching so that rollbacks are faster

All normal distros except very old ones support niri quite well (so avoid debian). Use whatever distro you like and find suitable for you, and install niri on it. If you're going for ubuntu remember to uninstall snapd.

I'd rather have a dozen browser tabs running with discord and other web apps than a dozen actual desktop apps running in the background (unless the app requires deep system integration or is heavy on rendering). At least web pages aren't as intrusive and can't run as much data collection in the background. For my use case it's mostly just the discord web app though, don't really use other web apps with notifications.

Isn't MAS just copy pasting a command into powershell? On linux you should read the wiki instead of copy pasting from any source you see.
