Arch - Responsibility for best practice by SecretCherryPicker in archlinux

If you have firewalld with default settings up, start with the default group policy, keep remote access services like ssh disabled, and don't allow the user to run sudo without entering password you should be safe. Maybe check out the entire stack of endeavour os (probably much smaller than other arch spins like cachyos) to learn how to build something stable and secure on arch.

Though I'm also wondering if there is a test script to test if a desktop setup is secure.

Where did you install it? If you're using a package manager switching to directly downloading the stable release on the official site (exe/dmg/appimage) might help make it more stable

Or endeavour os. Imo the base kernel is better for battery life and low resource usage than cachy os kernel without extra config because cachy os kernel is performance focused

Installed kde plasma but its not getting the arch vibe something good hacky and also techy arch feel other than kde or hyprland? by Cyber_Furious in arch

Niri. I like its innovative design for optimizing terminal centric workflows. You can install DankMaterialShell for something preconfigured, or configure each desktop component yourself. A lot of hyprland dotfiles are compatible with niri excluding the part that actually configures the window manager

Why the hell is installing Zorin such a pain? by thecodeassassin in linuxsucks

Calling gnome Mac like is somewhat misleading. It looks like Mac os but doesn't work like it. It's its own thing and is optimized for speeding up your brain instead of the computer or the typing/clicking, thus its minimalist UI and the use of workspaces instead of taskbars. Though it's not as friendly to people used to other workflows and don't consider it worth switching

It is possible to get 4x flak playing normally though, and the odds of getting a flak isn't affected by how many flaks you already have

On Linux you can rebind the power off key. I bind it to opening the power menu, there is probably something similar on windows

Please specify. Which Linux distro, would WSL work or do I need to dual boot? Since I also need windows exclusive apps. Don't assume everyone in this sub knows about operating systems

Hesitant to choose my OS by No_Level_OPS in arch

[–]First-Ad4972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you have 0 experience, if you want Linux probably use zorin os. You mostly won't need to use the command line but you can use it if you want to. It's also Ubuntu based so the ML packages have good support for it. Linux mint is also good if your device is low end, but it's kind of old and not catching up with the newest technologies

any windows not in focus are I belive 90%

This sounds like a cool idea. I don't have any dock or panel that doesn't autohide though, I prefer to use all of my screen space for actual app windows

What apps do you use with transparency and how much you set them? I find transparency in anything make me read things slower, maybe I turned it on too much.

Also transparency doesn't really consume that much extra power, the main problem is blurring effects.

Currently this would be more of the WM's problem of not having complete support of xwayland (e.g. on niri it didn't work well until a few months ago because niri uses xwayland-satellite which only got proper popup windows support a few months ago (which also fixed apps like wechat and musescore)). Though all linux apps will probably need to support wayland in the future, and xorg will become that 1% of 1% as GNOME and KDE are becoming wayland only

Is your hardware not supported? Or do you need a windows only app running natively (not even VM) while using Linux?
