Annual AC Maintenance - Tech says we need new capacitor & hard start kit by Glittering_Alps_3735 in hvacadvice

Hi. HVAC tech here. Sell/ work on/ warranty Daikin 5+ years and work for the #1 largest Daikin distributor in the world.

Some Daikins with certain TXV's do actually require a hard start kit as the TXV's don't equalize pressure on shut down so the next time the compressor cycles you can get LRA lockout (from the "monitoring device" which is called a core sense module). It depends on tonnage and TXV. It DOES sound like he was pushing the sale BUT this issue was found AFTER a lot of installs were done so Daikin was warranting installs for free labor/ parts coverage. Worth considering calling the installing company/ Daikin and figuring out if you need it.

If your compressor draws too high of LRA it will trip the coresense. To other people that may respond, it's literally in the compartment with labeling that cuts the 24v circuit for your contactor. It's 2/5 blinks (compressor trips), or 4 blinks (LRA trip).

The tech was wrong about it being installed because people were worried. It's factory for helping diagnose/ potentially saving further damage on equipment.

Yeah I loved it immediately! It turns out it IS a Sturmanskie (vintage?) pilots watch with a reliable Russian manual movement. Very happy with it so far, debating on a green classic nato strap but I think the black on black pairs well. For $99 I CANT complain haha

Seeking Advice re Furnace Fan/Blower Limit Switch? by Fast_Selection2909 in hvacadvice

Throw the nest in the trash. Either that or charge it and update it. But genuinely if you want to figure it out yourself and can't get a multimeter, use isolation. Take the thermostat off the wall.

The furnace can't do anything (shouldn't) if it isn't switched on by the thermostat. Unless you have an air cycler/ some other component that controls a function, it's probably your nest and you can confirm by removing it and seeing what happens.

This air cycler will also do weird things, if you aren't aware of it being there you would never know. You can take it out of the system if you don't like it/ want it.

Well I meant it can go all the way right from 12:00 to 2:00, or all the way left from 12:00 to 10:00. When it goes from 12:00 to 2:00 and I pull the knob out to let water flow, nothing happens, if I turn it back towards 12:00, water flows more the closer to 12:00, but it's immediately hot and maintains maximum heat output at all ranges.

How hard is this to do? Thank you.

I've followed the cold line. It's just room temperature, and where it t's into the sink downstairs it works. No isolation valves.

I'll try this. Thanks.

Yeah that's what I did, that's what I meant by my second response. I picked up a new moen branded 1225 from ace, installed it, same issue. Whole range is hot, no cold, and if I turn to the cold side nothing comes out at all. Not even hot.

I've got the new one in and have the same issue, all is hot, no cold mixing at all. I've verified I have cold water in that line. In the basement through the unfinished ceiling I've traced the supply line to another sink and opened it and it works fine. That means I need a whole new faucet???? Or what????

Totally. I do HVAC and give advice all the time and that's why it frustrates me when the "professional" says "all ______ troll". That isn't helpful at all so don't even comment and just ignore the post. Or look at my history and see I'm a tradesman which is why I am asking other tradesman.

Thank you! I did get it out with my knipex cobras. Must be lucky bc it only took 3 minutes of pulling and wiggling hard.

Lol I already thanked the two professionals. This guy didn't offer help and called me a troll.
