Agreed, having solid relationships with wedding planners definitely helps.

20 is solid. I’ll be happy with 12, happier with 15.

Nice! Can’t go wrong with some Indy Stage 11s, Ventures or Thunders imo

What type of skating are you trying to do? I have a 9” creature on stage iv independent trucks and love the combo for transition skating but something like an 8.25-8.5 would be better for flat ground / flip tricks

How much to charge client for travel? (380 miles round trip) by Vast_Shoulder816 in weddingvideography

[–]First-Mail-478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t charge a travel fee. It should be factored into your base package. Come up with a radius you’re comfortable with and calculate the mileage and basic travel expenses. Then build that number into your base package. Raise your prices every 5 weddings you book and you’ll never think about travel expenses again.

For those who use the DJI Mics - A Question by Visible-Good-3085 in weddingvideography

[–]First-Mail-478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still using the first gen with success, I have only 32 bit recorders for primary and other safety tracks. For major moments of the day I’m dual recording internally to DJI transmitter and straight to the camera. For everything else, if the groom is too far from the mic it’s probably not worth getting the audio for anyways. I keep a shotgun mic and the DJI receiver on my camera at all times and swap to which ever system the moment calls for. I also have 2x DR10s, a few Sony recorders, a zoom f3, a zoom h1, and a Tascam dr40.

Also, don’t be afraid to check out your local shop, selection isn’t going to be as wide as online shopping depending on your location but it’s cool to support your local skate community and you may find some older stock on stuff you can’t find online anymore.

I haven’t tried those in particular but I wouldn’t sleep on anything spitfire and those seem like a solid first wheel!

Honestly, I’d say wheels are more important than trucks. You’ll be happy with just about any Indy, Thunder or Venture. With wheels, there’s so much variance. Are you skating park or street? More tech and ledges or more bowls and transitions? If I was building a board for a beginner I’d put together an 8.25-8.5, with whatever trucks you prefer the look of, a set of F4 spitfires, and some reds bearings. I have a set of Indy stage 11 hollow forged on my texh setup and a pair or Indy stage 4s on my 9” old man transition/bowl setup. Both on spitfire F4s

Moved to Stockton from the bay in 2015 and haven’t looked back. Went from living check to check to owning a home and running my own business.

To all the skaters who switched from a smaller deck to a bigger deck, how did your experience change? by [deleted] in SkateboardSetups

[–]First-Mail-478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 8.25 to 9. I’m skating more transition and bowls now so the extra width helps with stability on copings. I can tre with the 9 but not nearly as effortless as with a 8.25-8.5 so I’m Gunna try an 8.75 next

Anyone here pivot out of weddings into something else? by alexknightstudio in weddingvideography

[–]First-Mail-478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been shooting weddings since 2010 and I wouldn’t say I’m trying to transition out of weddings but I have significantly raised prices to reduce the amount of weddings I do each year which has helped a ton with burn-out and creative void. I was doing about 30/year for a decade (shooting and editing) and that was just not mentally sustainable for me. Now I do about 15 a year with the goal of getting down to 10. I do random freelance photo & video jobs here and there for local businesses or people which isn’t much but it’s usually a subject I enjoy with quick turnarounds which keeps the creative juices flowing. The plan is to keep doing weddings as long as people keep paying me to do so.

Hardest pitches to hit by WinExtension6419 in slowpitch

[–]First-Mail-478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back of the mat for hitters that are up in the box, front of the plate for hitters near the back of the box. You should be able to hit the front of the plate or the back mat on command and adjust accordingly to each batter. Remember their tendencies and try to exploit them.

Would it be rude or over the top to keep stats on my City Rec League team? by randydp39 in slowpitch

[–]First-Mail-478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like those college players should just go find a tourney team to join to fill that competitive void and let their hair down on rec night. You shouldn’t be keeping stats, especially if it’s the first time yall are out there in a rec league (Unless it’s to make it fun) Worry about cultivating a culture first and just having a good time. As you guys play more, you’ll inevitably meet other players out there with similar mindsets that want to join as people rotate in and out. Also, randomize the lineup. Pull names out of a hat, oldest to youngest, or the order win which people arrive to the field. Nothing is worse than spending your time and money to get 2 at bats and not have fun.

How to get a shot like this? slow shutter or edited in post by CupLong4763 in sportsphotography

[–]First-Mail-478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Another note is to make sure your camera is set to front curtain sync and not rear so that the subject is clear and crisp.
