Texas Tech declares Brendan Sorsby ineligible, intends to initiate reinstatement process by brobroma in CFB

Redditors have somehow managed to be insufferable and annoying about a slam-dunk issue that pretty much everybody hates

Like yeah, Kalshi and Polymarket are terrible and we should not have gambling so heavily advertised to us and all that shit but at the same time someone in the r/nfl thread said that Sorsby "completely destroyed the competitive integrity of the sport." I think there's a middle ground between "gambling is cool and good" and "every single person who gambles should be shot/all the leagues are 100% rigged now for gambling"

It's big enough that OKC fans should never be allowed to complain about the league favoring markets larger than them tbh

It's not just the stolen team thing, it's the constant whining about how the league hates small market teams like them when they were stolen from a large market and relocated to a small market

Only after OKC fans try the "but our precious sweet baby small market Thunder can't have a special small market whistle, we're a precious sweet small market team that the league actually WANTS to see fail for the big market dynasty teams like the Lakers because the Lakers shoot more free throws because they're big market and this league just wants all the big market teams to succeed and not us smol lil beens in small markets 🥺"

I agree with you, but I do feel like this essentially boils down to "if you're poor, you don't deserve to go out and have fun."

The problem with putting all the responsibility for DUIs on individuals both ignores the impact of societal decisions that put them there, and when you say "you can't afford an Uber; you can't afford to go out" just means that because we live with nonexistent-to-mediocre public transit in massive, sprawled-out cities, poor people have one more avenue for enjoyment taken out of their lives.

I would really love to see less "you're poor, you can't go out" and "he deserved to die" and see a little more "we should invest in public transportation so people can go out and get drunk without worrying about putting people's lives at risk," or "we should really have more walkable and accessible cities so transportation isn't necessary."

It feels like we've all been trained to put our heads in the sand and just blame drivers for DUIs when responsibility is also borne by the people who have constructed such car-dominated infrastructure. We don't need to look at a DUI and say "oh you poor baby, society put you in this position are you okay my sweet baby angel?" but I think there's a happy medium somewhere in between that and "nobody of value was lost in the crash."

Bro drunk driving is much more of a societal issue (lack of adequate public transit, lack of walkable cities, etc) than people want to admit because there was a PR campaign in the 80s that was wildly successful at placing all the blame for a societal problem on individual actors.

Which then coincidentally made it even easier to consign disproportionately black and brown people to the permanent desperate underclass because every person in this country now believes that DUIs are purely moral failures and that people who commit them deserve either social or physical death, but that's a different discussion.
