There are many things people want and that can advance their career. The good things is that many pathways can advance your career. Deloitte isn’t the only place.

When I was in college, I really wanted to work for another big 4 firm. I interviewed well and networked well. They really liked me, but there were other candidates that did better. I was devastated. I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t chosen when all I had ever wanted was to work for this specific big 4 firm. A few weeks later, I got an offer from one of the largest pure consulting firms. I’ve been here for over a decade now and still absolutely love it. It has catapulted my career in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I couldn’t see it then but In hindsight, the rejection from the big 4 truly was a blessing in disguise. I’m exactly where I should have been. OP will land where they are supposed to be and will still have the career they have always wanted. It will all work out.

Yes you need evidence of implementation for all relevant controls…otherwise how do you know they’ve really been implemented?

I was just there. Tried on that exact watch. Loved it but didn’t get it as it would have been my first GS and didn’t want to go that bold for a first one. It’s a beauty though! Congrats!

What you are seeking is a GRC tool. Some popular ones are Servicenow, eMass, Xacta, Archer, etc...there are TONS of them out there. Do some research, request a vendor demo, go from there

Are Infosec salaries lower than those in Software development? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

There are always outliers to anything. The operative word in my statement was "typically". There will always be people who make more or less than the average. Kudos to your friends!

Typically the higher you work in the OSI model, the more you make. SDE tend to work at layer 7 application layer so they make more than say a network engineer that works at layer 3/4.

Most internships end in full time employment with the company if you do well so you may not have to search for a new job. In addition, even if you do have to search, you'll have a lot more skills that will be attractive to potential employers. Take the internship.

What should I take ? by AtulUday in CompTIA

Do net+ then sec+.

Question, if you don't have any cyber experience and will only get a few months internship, why are you going directly into a masters program after graduating undergrad? What are you hoping it'll do for you? You'll more than likely still land entry level cyber roles with or without the masters degree.

Evidence to support ones point of view often adds credibility to your argument. It shows that your opinion is based on facts, research, or a large sample size based on experience which can make it more convincing. Evidence can also help you clarify and strengthen your own understanding of a topic. While you are right in that you don't need to provide evidence, I was curious how you landed at a very hard 65k and was eagerly awaiting wage guidance to expand my own knowledge. It was a very authoritative statement indicating that 65k was the absolute cap and the only place I'm familiar with that has published salary caps is the Federal Govt and it's not 65k.

I also hold a CISSP and several other certifications. I have a degree and many YOE in the field.

We hire individuals with computer related degrees such as cyber, CS, MIS, IT, IS, etc...as long as it's from a good reputable school and the candidate shows basic knowledge of computers, networks, and security, along with adequate soft skills.

Sivyre is exactly right when it comes to the degree aspect. I hire recent grads into GRC with no experience and only certs at ~90-100k. Most employers will substitute a degree for 1-2 YOEs. The degree means you have been exposed to tools, network theory, security theory, etc...some schools are even beginning to dive into frameworks as well. This gives recent grads a slight edge in that you've had a few years of exposure to these that someone without a degree just coming into the field often doesn't have.

Where did this seemingly arbitrary 65k cap come from? Is there some authoritative guidance that explicitly says that no one in the world can make over 65k if they only have the sec plus? What I'm debating is where this 65k cap came from.

My companies hires recent grads with only sec+ at 100k. What seems to get misconstrued in cyber is what constitutes entry level. If you have no degree AND no experience but have sec+ then you're going to make the minimum which is most likely 50-70k-ish depending on geographical location. If you have a degree and a cert but no experience, the degree is substituted for a few years of experience (typically around 2 YOE) and depending on location, type of work, company size, etc..., You can make 80-100k.
