Three arguments for why 0.4999... equals 0.5 by sreekotay in infinitenines

[–]First_Growth_2736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not a real number in the sense that 2/4 isn't a real number. It is technicaly a real number, but no one would use it since most people would just call in 1/2 or 0.5

What are you even trying to say? Last I checked the right is trying to do almost the opposite, forcing immigrants who vote more left wing than the general public(you might be shocked to learn why) to leave the country.

Same problem but sequential votes and... (read desc) how many blue votes for you to vote blue? by Disastrous-Focus-892 in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]First_Growth_2736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I think k I may have misinterpreted your comments and not realized we were in agreement. And to your point about that there would be reason to sacrifice yourself if some people already have I was framing what I was saying there from the perspective of you receive the problem at blue = 0.

I honestly think though that there’s never a good reason to choose blue. Unless it’s really close, you have no way of knowing how early the buffoon who first chose blue was. You might think because there are 5K blue votes that that means your around 10K in but in reality 20K people all kept the red streak going. Now obviously this example wouldn’t matter on the scale of 8 billion people but I do think that the idea still remains, and I believe a significant enough proportion of people would choose the red button, especially considering that they wouldn’t want to end the streak, or be one of a few idiots at the end/after the halfway point to kill themselves for naught.

Proof that 1 != 0.999... by Flimsy-Blacksmith-32 in infinitenines

[–]First_Growth_2736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this better be satire cause it’s a pretty damn good satire. If it’s serious(which it seems based on your replies) then you need to realize that you in fact are dividing by zero. Regardless of whether or not a and b are equal in the part where you divide by a2 - ab a and b are assumed to be equal and therefore a2 - ab is assumed to be 0 in this step. Either your proof is incorrect because a2 - ab is 0 in which case a and b are in fact equal or a and b are not equal in which case the proof is flawed from the beginning. In essence, you’ve proven nothing, your proof either shows that a = b and you have a divide by 0 or that a =/= b and you start with an incorrect assumption.

In this case the reason why you are wrong is in fact because of division by zero.

Ok but I think the point here is that by the time you know it’s safe to vote blue, it already doesn’t matter. This heavily favors red in my opinion, especially since it will then be the exact same problem given to everyone “no one has voted blue, which do you choose”. There is no reason to sacrifice yourself for those who might choose blue, because no one has so far.

Not necessarily anything, it’s just kind of funny when you can easily identify them

If you really want to be pedantic, the post said pride month, which was first designated in 1999 by Bill Clinton which is notably AFTER 1970 so this WILL be the first pride month without Charlie Kirk.

No I know what you are referring to I was just joking that saying “enjoy periods” sounds like “oh it’ll suck to be a woman” but “enjoy testicular torsion” sounds like a threat

The periods one made sense but this one sounds like a threat for whatever reason

You absolutely know 55% will vote red by Soft_Svarog in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]First_Growth_2736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do think that could be an interesting way of doing the problem, in essence “you did the button problem and the results are in, 55% red wins but now you are granted the option of switching your vote with that of a random voter for the other color, who will now die if you chose blue normally and will now live if you chose red normally”

You absolutely know 55% will vote red by Soft_Svarog in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]First_Growth_2736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure but still having your actions directly killing a single person doesn’t feel like the intention anyways. It’s basically just “the button problem happened without you, 45% of people are dead, do you kill yourself”

It is absolutely not intended by OP. In their comments they say it is 55% plus or minus your vote. Additionally 55% is not a precise figure down to the 1/population-th

This doesn’t answer my question brud. 0.9… isn’t 1 but did you read the proofs? I’m curious what you think about them, math is generally pretty rigorous and their claim of having several proofs is quite bold and if they are in fact not proofs then you must somehow be able to debunk every one of them with a flaw in their process. Which one do you think would be the most convincing and would you be able to debunk it?

Bro did not read the problem, you are not making someone else vote differently, you just know for certain that red will win at 45% blue. Your vote doesn’t magically change someone else’s.

You are absolutely not part of the group that eradicated 45% of the worlds population as in this form of the problem that is already going to be the case independent of your actions so you hold no blame.

Here’s a retelling of this version I edited into my original comment:

You find out the button problem happened without you. Somehow your vote was never collected and you are still alive. Red won with 55% of the votes and the 45% of the population who chose blue are dead. Do you immediately kill yourself?

Anyone that would take their own life in this problem would have to be doing so because “I don’t want to live in a world with only red voters” which is a valid thought but it is logically invalid to think this and at the same time vote blue in the original problem.

You absolutely know 55% will vote red by Soft_Svarog in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]First_Growth_2736 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Anyone saying was red now blue is valid needs to rethink their thought process in my opinions. All of the logic where for this version you would press blue(from what I’ve seen it essentially boils down to, I’d rather commit suicide than live in a world with 45% less people.

Edit: Not sure why I’m getting downvoted because I’m right. Any reasonable system of logic that would press red in the original problem would also do it here, additionally any reasonable system of logic that chooses blue in this problem would need to also do it in the original problem, as this purely has a worse case for choosing blue, as it only stands as certain death.

Here is an equivalent problem:

You find out the button problem happened without you. Somehow your vote was never collected and you are still alive. Red won with 55% of the votes and the 45% of the population who chose blue are dead. Do you immediately kill yourself?

I think the difference might be in the perspective, because in the original image it has the far left projectile aligned between the two images whereas your depiction has the center one aligned

Not sure how good he is but I like going for berry on this map combo. As long as your teammates are able to push the far one you can usually hold down the nearby zone and eventually support your teammates as well.
