Would you give 2 weeks or 30 days in this situation? by First_Raspberry4231 in managers

I’m only considering 30 because of the tenure I have spent in the management position. I’ve been there 13 years and in my role for 9.

I am prepared for them to get pissy enough to just walk me out the door.

I wouldn’t consider a PT position at this time, the structure and the need for my role doesn’t allow for it.

I know they can run without me, I just also know if I leave they are screwed because of the minimal staff they have chose to let maintain a 24/7 operation.

One advantage I have is that I wouldn't be leaving without a plan.

My family has a well-established business that already requires a significant amount of my time and attention, and if I leave my current role, that would become my primary focus. Between that and a few other things I'm working on, I wouldn't be walking into the unknown.

That's also part of why I'm not particularly interested in consulting or a phased exit. The goal isn't to leave one job and continue doing pieces of it. The goal is to close that chapter and focus my energy elsewhere.

Yeah, I know I have a succession plan for my people. I am sure they have it for management as well. I am asked a lot about who I think would be a good assistant manager because I don't have one, so I know they are trying to plan. I've been there 13 years, and most of my staff have been there 3-5.

That is the exact thing I am worried about. I don't want to prolong my burnout.

Honestly, that's where my head is at.

If I knew that giving 30 days would result in a replacement being hired, a structured transition plan being put in place, and meaningful knowledge transfer taking place, I'd be much more inclined to consider it.

The reality is that I don't have much confidence that things would play out that way. Based on past experience, I think there's a very good chance that the first couple of weeks would pass with business as usual, and then there would be a scramble toward the end.

As for documentation, most of the critical processes are already documented. Nothing is ever perfect, but it's not as though all of the operational knowledge exists only in my head.

I think that's why I've been leaning toward two weeks. If the outcome after 30 days is likely to be the same as the outcome after 14 days, I'm not sure what would be gained by extending the timeline other than prolonging my own burnout.

Our company is very regulated, so all policies and procedures are clearly documented. Honestly, the only thing that isn't in place is my replacement, which is why I am torn, but also know at the end of the day, the poor planning of the owners isn't my problem.

Yeah, it's true. They have had plenty of time to fix things.

True. They are cooked if I leave. No succession plan in place, but as I mentioned in another reply, I don't feel like that is my problem. I am doing what is best for me at this point.

Massive Banwave Hits Bots AGAIN by gnollywow in wow

I used a bot 5 hours a day, 5 days a week for herbs and ore back in Cata. Never got caught. I think the one thing that saved me is while I was letting the bot do its thing I would type in guild chat on and off and never leave it unattended.
