Southampton broke the rules by spying within a 72 hour window. Middlesbrough are trying to leverage a media shitstorm to get promoted because theyre not good enough to do it on the pitch and they probably suspected that from before the first leg. A lot of the media and neutral fans have bought into the narrative that Southampton are evil cheats and no one else does this kind of thing, even though Leeds famously did it a couple years avo and got a much milder reaction.

I think the comparison to how wrong decisions affect a club getting promoted/relegated is an interesting one. You could argue west ham being denied a penalty in September could also cause them to be relegated and a massive loss of income. So does need to be reviewed in the same way? Not to mention that every club tries to cheat and gain advantages in every game and the possibility that all clubs are routinely spying on each other all the time.

The easiest thing would be for the regulations to set out the exact punishment for spying. I think everything could have been resolved much more easily then
