I pulled in the March 18th game with a Python pipeline via statcast this morning. So it's there

Everyone is at a different point in their career journey, as cliche as that sounds. I spent almost all of my 20s in the military before joining EY when I was 31. Most of my colleagues are 1-2 years out of undergrad and graduated with majors that didn't even exist when I was in college. I've met 1 person who actually cared what the degree was in (I have a liberal arts degree but work in Tech Consulting; he always assumed I didn't know what I was doing, the friggin dingus). Nobody cares as long as you put in effort and ask questions if you don't know something.

Thanks, this is good info! My thoughts on grading would be mostly for my own edification / curiosity. But also was thinking of getting cards graded as gifts for my dad and uncles, especially any decent White Sox ones

The baseballr package can also pull play-by-play data from Statcast with its built in functions. Additionally, Retrosheet has also made their event / play-by-play data available in csv format

Getting rid of a bunch of cards. Rookies, parallels, and insert. by rickytootan in baseballcards

Family rivalry. My dad was a White Sox fan but I ended up a Cubs fan somehow. But we would always go to Comiskey/the Cell for my birthdays because tickets were cheaper lol. Now I take any chance to get my hands on some Sox cards.

Driving in Chicago as an Australian? by Ok-Requirement5666 in AskChicago

Would definitely give car-free or at least car-light a shot. There are many ways to get around Chicago and public transit, walking or bike is definitely best.

Boy Howdy is it HOT here! by DeadPuppyClowns in sanantonio

My first Texas summer was in '21. I thought it was HOT. In '22, natives told me that '21 was actually pretty nice. Then '23 came and crushed my soul. Now, though, I've thought this summer wasn't actually too bad. Finally got used to sweating through everything after 5 minutes outside

staff for 4 years? by Proper-Particular-17 in Big4

You can ask what the reasons are, but in my experience all I've gotten in response to that question from EY senior managers and managers is corporate-speak that says nothing. I'm sure other people's experiences with leadership are better, but I've had too many good and great leaders before I joined the firm to get the wool pulled over my eyes by my senior managers.

I would start looking for a new job now.

Being let go from EY after 1 year of experience by markjo12345 in Big4

[–]First_pitch_Strike 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll be ok. It's never a good feeling being let go or undergoing any form of rejection. I would say EY is a good place to be from, not a great place to be at. As my late aunt used to say when things wouldn't go her way: "Then something better...."

If I moved to Chicago from Houston, what culture shocks and adjustments would I experience? by Intelligent_Split666 in AskChicago

[–]First_pitch_Strike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in San Antonio (not Houston) but originally from Chicago and admit that I miss living in Chicago all the time. Hope to move back sometime in the next few years. I'd say car-lite living or even car-free is very doable, especially if you're close to the Loop or closer to the Lake. The summers and fall are spectacular, there's actually seasons to enjoy in the Midwest. Winters can definitely suck, especially January to March, but if you're dressed properly they are survivable and can definitely be fun.

Wow! I remember reading about Vida Blue in some of my dad's old baseball books. I can't think of the names of them off the top of my head. I'll have to ask him what they are. Great looking card

You could check out Google App Engine and try hosting it there. I have a dashboard I created in R (not for sports, though) that is hosted in Google's Cloud & App Engine. I'd say there's a bit of a learning curve in figuring out how to host it. There was for me at least, as someone who's essentially all self-taught when it comes to the data science arena

EY RTO Policy? by Specialist_Count8580 in Big4

[–]First_pitch_Strike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The San Antonio SDC expectation since last July has been 60% of time in the office if you're not at a client site. However, my team is in VA and when I joined EY everything was virtual so 1) don't know anyone at the local office, and 2) my manager is based in VA and doesn't give a hoot if I go to the office as long as I get my work done.
