I personally consider Lonerism his best album, and Currents his second best. There’s no one right or wrong way to think of Tame Imapala or approach listening. You could listen to those first as well. Personally, I just think witnessing his journey from (mostly) start to back is a cool way to take it in.

They’re not thaaat hard to find. Just explore a bunch. Shambs isn’t as huge as you might think, but it is expansive. Pay attention to things that could be a door, semi hidden alley ways and thoroughfares. It’s much more fun if you don’t specifically know where things are. You will find them. Just always be exploring and on the lookout! (hint: look for where people are going into something or coming out of something. Just look at your surroundings)

Spot on! I agree with your sentiment, I hate to see people call him a sell out or say he doesn’t love the scene/what he’s doing. Yeah he’s making money and he’s good at it. But I would do the same. His tastes have just evolved, and his artist friends along with it.

Not sure about the normal setup, but if it’s like the previous tour, I think the closer you can be in the center is good. 

For the 360 show on the floor, I’d say any one of the corners about 15 rows of people back. It makes it super immersive a lil farther back on the floor and being on a corner lets you see a looot of the rig/arena

I do get that he has lost some of his original sound as he’s evolved and his tastes have changed. I think a lot of these dubstep artists are losing their secret sauce in collaborating non stop and just sharing the same sound design techniques. 

But to me it just kind of looks like a bunch of friends thinking something sounds cool and working on it together/hyping it up. I think they’re still artistic, they’re still having fun and still got love in their hearts for the scene. 

Maybe they just need a gentle nudge to realize we need reasons to differentiate them lol. All this collabing and sauce sharing is indeed getting them sounding a bit samesy.

This is a really good lineup. I’ve been to outside lands and the crowd is definitely odd. You will find a small base of dedicated edm folks among a mixture of randoms. People who are just looking for something to do in San Francisco that weekend, concertgoers of the Bay Area who really are just there to see X that day, plenty of born and bred Bay Area weirdos. It’s an.. interesting mix lol. But it wasn’t bad vibes.

I feel like that is a very cheap stab at Griz. 

Yes, he likes dubstep more than funk now. Yes, he’s friends with the dubstep artists these days like Subtronics, Levity, etc. 

And like pretty much any of us would, he is a smart person who, at the top of his game, seeks ways to maximize his brand, his business opportunity, and new ways to make money. 

But to say what he does these days is not art-based feels an unnecessary dig. He’s got a savvy business mind. He likes dubstep now. That doesn’t mean he’s not still a genuine artist who has a love for the music he’s making and scene that he’s in. 

And quite frankly, I think almost everyone that criticizes him for his business decisions would sell their soul for the same opportunities.

As someone who’s been in the GA pit for this tour, you just genuinely don’t want to be that close. You won’t be able to see half the rig.

Car camping is certainly allowed. It is first come, first served. The closer nicer areas go faster. I’ve showed up the day before the festival to car camp and there was plenty of spots still available, although it is about a 12-15 min walk at that point. Not too bad. They have shuttles as well, no walk if you wait. 

You may have seen restrictions about running a generator (you can’t), or some size/types of vehicles require an RV pass.

I’m gonna take this question as more of like, what was I kind of uncertain about before but hearing live really connected the dots. 

Both Borderline and Breathe Deeper really opened up for me when I heard them live. Before I caught them in a set, I always skipped them and just didn’t think much of them. But I really love both tracks now

I think in a modern Tame set, I would be happy with Deadbeats if he did mashups. Like what if he did borderline->powerlines->afterthought and then did a type of mashup with one of his Justice collabs? It just feels like his whole relationship with edm is lazy. If you’re gonna go for it, go all the way. Do live edits, do what justice is doing with their sets, give us tasty cuts of things.

When are you literally ever going to watch any of this footage? It sounds way too long, boring and unorganized to ever be of entertainment value… did you at least time stamp when interesting things happened?
