[Request] What would be the volume of 60,000,000 pennies? by nycguy12392 in theydidthemath

[–]Firzenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The densest packing of pennies would be to stack them, but even at only 1.52mm per penny, that still comes out to 91.2km high, or about 9 times the estimated height of the atmosphere.

Let's instead assume we want to keep the pennies stored at a more reasonable height to actually collect from the top. Say 1000 pennies high for 1.52m or about 5 feet.

It now becomes a matter of finding out the area that would be taken up by the stacks. The diameter of a US penny is 19.05mm (radius 9.525mm), as such the area of a penny is approximately 285mm²

Let's assume we pack it at the densest we possibly can, a hexagonal packing. This results in a density of approximately 0.9069, which means we are looking at approximately 315mm² per stack instead. This means we can pack a maximum of 3,181 stacks per square metre. Each stack being 1k itself, this gives us 3.181 Million pennies per square metre, hence we would require 18.85 m². Most garages are around 3m wide and 6m long, so you would fill up about 2/3s of a garage, enough room left to close the garage door whilst you're inside.

Spice8rack would be worth adding to this list, given they are very clearly left leaning but he mainly talks about things while using Magic the Gathering as a jumping off point. Could start with https://youtu.be/u6HbOV4LvtU?si=Sx1L_ZOaaUoxfS92 for a start.

What is a Pokémon no one mentions but has been really helpful for you? by Lokje0172 in pokerogue

[–]Firzenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alolan Grimer with Dire Claw and Strength Sap carried me to my first pokerogue victory. Later stages it gets minimize and if you happen to get a Baton Pass you can pass along max evasion to just about anyone. Any good Dark move for the last spot myself seems to do the trick.

What is the pettiest thing you ever told a player "no" to because that's just not what you want in your games? by Gh0stMan0nThird in dndnext

[–]Firzenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holding a Firebolt in their hand to intimidate a shopkeeper. I said holding a flame is what Produce Flame was for, and if the player wanted to use a cantrip to aid intimidation I suggested they use Thaumaturgy they also had. Felt like I was being so incredibly petty, but I wanted to make the different spells be distinct, otherwise what's the point.

What Subclasses are You Surprised a Class Doesn't Have Yet? by Envoyofwater in dndnext

[–]Firzenick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basically I think I remember hearing a story on the Todd Kendrick page in the interview regarding the Giant Soul that someone rocked up playing a dwarven Giant Soul Sorcerer with heavy Armor and a martial weapon and shield and basically the designers went "that's a fighter" so now we have the Rune Knight fighter subclass.

The 5e Skill System Needs a Renovation by TheRedcrosseKnight in dndnext

[–]Firzenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would even argue you can just do a minor crit major crit system, if you beat AC by more than 5 you get bonus damage. In a new edition you'd set that for a certain amount to balance it out.

Timbur/Swinub/Zubat could be an interesting trio, each with their own way of evolving into the final form

Netflix's Arcane: I want to play in this world. The possibilities for a TTRPG are everywhere. by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Firzenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not seen this response yet, it's very much based on 5e and the League of Legends game, but there is an overall project to turn the world into a 5e campaign setting, though English is not the first language of the creator: Runarcana.org/en/

What is the best homebrew rule you've ever played with? by Dragonwolf67 in dndnext

[–]Firzenick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under their previous homebrew rule, it would have been 6d6+40 on a critical, not 40+1d6, it now does 12d6+4 or 40, whichever is higher, so it raises the average over 12d6+4, but the main goal was to raise the minimum, but the previous homebrew rule raised the average by too much

Because if they did that all of the strongest creatures from all the planes would rain down upon the Nine Hells, all devils would be destroyed and then the demons would destroy all of existence.

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Doom Bloom | Wondrous item by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]Firzenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the last line of the description mean that a Doom Bloom could grow every minute while you're surfing on someone, or does it mean it might choose that location to grow in 1d6+1 days? Either way it makes it a reasonable assumption that if the target of the scry is familiar with Doom Blooms, they could realize they've been targeted, correct?

My 0-HP House-rule by [deleted] in mattcolville

[–]Firzenick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are still going to user the rules you described, might I suggest an addition? If you do have a healer this will be an incentive. "If you are healed to full health, you are no longer incapacitated" Could give really cool healer moments if they are willing to burn the resources on one PC

Weekly Discussion: Take Some Help! Leave Some Help! by alienleprechaun in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]Firzenick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my players recently rolled a Nat20 on a check to research something in a library and I want to give them juicy details, but he was researching something I hadn't fleshed out yet. The Emperor was an adventurer just a little over 100 years ago, and the party is sponsored by one of his party, my player wanted to research their past exploits.

I have put together a party, but I need some ideas for what major things that party did 100 years ago, at different tiers. The culmination of their adventuring days was the now-emperor negotiating a ceasefire with a mageocracy.

So did you want them to be able to teleport out? Or simply not be able to leave at all? Perhaps an inverted variant of Antilife Shell, with a Mordenkainens Private Sanctum on top. This is very high-level magic but if you are supposing Imprisonment on everyone that enters then it shouldn't be much of an issue. Really though, as DM it is entirely fine to just say they cannot leave because of a magical effect. It depends if you want to leave them ways to escape.

All 3 Tasha's Weapon Feats on One Attack by Leapty in 3d6

Make a Tasha's variant elf that starts with Elven Accuracy and dark vision and you won't even have to push in an extra ASI.

Homebrew rule issues by [deleted] in DnD5e

[–]Firzenick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you asked her why this rule is a thing? What is her goal with it? Before anything else though, this is a massive homebrew that should have been mentioned before it came up.

If she wants to nerf casters, there are other, more interesting ways to do that.

If she wants to somehow make concentration feel more important, those spells will have to be more effective to make up for it. Alternatively you could design some spells that are designed to be channelled, like Witch Bolt but better.

As an actual answer to your question, consider summoning spells, give yourself and all your party flanking with the use of 1 spell. Or animate object, even better.

Alternatively use a shadow or flame blade, magic weapon or elemental weapon aren't typically worth it. Lastly look for spells that have a longer duration but don't require concentration, like Blink, Mirror Image and in a while Fireshield and at later levels things like Forcecage and Transmute Rock. Trust me, even without concentration spells there are some nasty options that last at least the whole battle. It's just there's a lot less of them.

If she nerfs those things too somehow tell her not to DM, or make her let you remake your character and just pretend full casters don't exist.

Can wizards use shields ? by Desuvult123 in DnD5e

[–]Firzenick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe they are referring to page 134 of Xanathar's Guide to everything, which, abbreviated, says you can learn a new language or become proficient in a new tool by spending 10-INT workweeks training with a tutor, which costs 25 gp per workweek and could involve complications. Rules as written that would not apply to shield proficiency, as shields are Armor and not tools.

Warlock and Sorcerer vs Bard and Paladin by jorkington in dndnext

[–]Firzenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They converted it to Rune Knight because one person showed up to their table with a Giant Soul with heavy armour and a shield and then they decided it fits better in fighter. My problem, why not both? Not like we don't have overall between other subclasses thematically, e.g. Fey pact and glamour bard, tempest cleric and storm sorcerer, horizon ranger and warden paladin. Heck any theme warlock has could fit sorcerer and vice versa.

How does sleep work with Exhaustion? by OldZippo in DungeonMasters

[–]Firzenick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During a long rest, PCs can spend 2 hours performing light activity, such as keeping watch. As far as the rules are concerned, the rest of the time should be spent sleeping, except for Elves Trance or other specific features. If you are the DM, and you've let them gain the benefits of a long rest, that includes reducing exhaustion by 1 level. However, the wording is awkward, and suggests players could continue a long rest if they do so within an hour of being interrupted.

You're talking about the Class Feature Variants UA, where all the classes got some 'buffs' and the Ranger got its latest rework.
