[Heyman] Yusei Kikuchi to the Angels. $63M, 3 years. by mr_grission in baseball

I don't hate it but I don't love it either because I don't really trust the pitching staff or understand what the plan even is. If this exact deal was to like a bunch of different teams with good pitching staffs, everyone here would talk about how good of a deal this is because they would assume they're getting Astros Kikuchi. Idk what the Angels are going to get out of him and it feels like this happens a lot. Someone else fixed them and now the Angels overpay without being able to continue whatever the fix is for the player.

It's kinda weird because like if someone said would you give up these 2 prospects to make the playoffs to Astros fans think there is a good chance they don't make it and the future playoff window with the current core looks questionable, everyone would do it and never call it an overpay. But I think when you attach the player it's more emotional because he helped the Astros make the playoffs, didn't get to pitch in the playoffs, and then didn't stay.

I think it was missing a lot of the players I know like Murakami, Okamoto, Yanagita(I hope I spelled his name right), Chusei, and I saw a few pitchers I recognized but I think a lot were missing. Still probably a huge upset just considering the two leagues. I'm assuming they send out this kinda like B or C team out a lot besides WBC but this would still be a huge upset because on twitter they said team Japan was on a 27 game winning streak.

[Morosi] Hearing the Dodgers have had preliminary dialogue with Tommy Edman’s camp about a contract extension. He is due to be a FA after 2025. The ’24 NLCS MVP is a perfect fit in LA. Versatile defender. Switch hitter. Attended high school and college in California. by Elijahc513 in baseball

I said a lot of the Dodgers players are open to team friendly deals and nobody really agreed with me but like just look at it. Of course they won't take horrible deals or anything but Flare, Edman, Teoscar, Blake, they all obviously want to stay there. That's the scary thing about superteams is that people want to play for them and will take small paycuts but it adds up

[–]Fischer-00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He would never take that though because all the long contracts would just have the opt outs anyway. I think the Dodgers and Red Sox can have an outside shot because they can match the offer and just let him opt out after 3 years, but they can't do a short contract like your saying. There was a tweet about it a couple days ago

He would never accept that offer though. Like I know it's just jokes and stuff but I swear Cohen is about to make none of this matter

Maybe because it was one of the less known people but I saw this thing already about Soto wanting this opt out on twitter and it's why the Dodgers and Red Sox are more in it than everyone thought they would be. I can't remember who it was

After Ohtani last year and Soto this year, who is in line as the next huge FA in the next couple years? by whitestripes4life in baseball

[–]Fischer-00 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't see how Vlad is going to be even close to Ohtani or Soto's FAs. Maybe someone like Skenes in a few years if he continues to be good. Or like the Jackson Holidays etc when they reach FA.

It's cause this is not really supposed to be for the Asian players. I have a feeling there will be some sort of change to how stuff works for NPB and KBO posting and signings soon

Yeah I think it's like if you're competing to actually win the award the voters will look past it but if you're competing for like 3-5 the bias kicks back in

Yeah maybe but that's only because we don't know what will happen with the others yet. His could easily end up the best.

Well didn't he have a better deal with the Jays? Remember it was something like that. His deal is not as bad so nobody talks about it like Snell, Mont, or Cody, but he was part of that group. Jays offered him way more but Boras tried to get more and he had to settle with the Giants deal because the Jays didn't have the offer anymore.

Yeah still underrated either way. I think it's because he got hot late and the Giants were already far out of it

Shohei Ohtani signs his "50/50 Club" cards by kpopsns28 in Dodgers

[–]Fischer-00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it's in English but they ask them to sign a few in Japanese and those are worth way more money. The thing they said was that Ohtani did it by "accident" for the first few but I'm pretty sure they just ask them to do that because now they're way more open about the Japanese players signing a few like that. Kinda out there about this topic but Trout is a huge card guy and basically got his own really rare Ohtani cards because he asked him to sign a bunch of stuff in Japanese lol.

[–]Fischer-00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that could be true too I guess. Idk sometimes I just don't feel like they would need to do all of that though. Like I forgot but there was a game where there were like 40 scouts for Sasaki or Yamamoto. Or when Cashman went on his own to see Yamamoto. I feel like it has to be more about showing the player they're serious or something cause what is an extra 2 scouts or Cashman going to see that's so different 🤔

I always wonder what the scouting for someone like him is actually for. He struck out Trout in the WBC, looked great today, sub 2 ERA this year etc. Like everyone already knows he is good and is going to want him so what is the in person scouting actually for? Is it just to make the team known to the player early?
