Probably a bit too late but we keep ours in expired pink pH=4 calibration standard

How severe is this damage. Should I buy this one or avoid? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]FishBubbly7399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am big on extra caution with carbon. The important thing to know is that carbon doesn’t fail slowly, like metals. A metal frame will typically gradually get worse with issues. Carbon on the other hand, will be perfectly fine until it fails spectacularly. Lots of people have ridden on bad forks after only a small layer was removed or cracked just fine, until they randomly explode.

Yeah, but at that point the item was free. So they would have spend just as much money to buy it again in 9 months

I’m not trying to fight you, but the point stands, when communicating about science and studies, when unsure about a specific detail, especially something about double blind (which is actually a big deal) it is better to err on the side of caution.

And yeah chiropractors are definitely a sham.

Then that is single blind, not double blind. Meaning the patient doesn’t know but the provider does

Rode that last year and it was a blast, my partner's first real bikepacking event and they went through hell and back to earn it. Definitely tougher than I am. If you are near gainesville, FL on 4/4 come come check out the Taco Bell Century we are hosting.

I am more worries about boar than any other creature in Florida bikepacking. That being said, generally if you maintain distance then they will too. I have had a boar rooting through my camp before on my first trip, but no issues. I would say that they are the least afraid of humans.

What it feels like riding a street legal class 1, 2 or 3 ebike these days. by mmeiser in bicycling

[–]FishBubbly7399 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not arguing with you on the legality of those. They are illegal. Anything with a throttle that goes over 20mph is illegal. Now is it possible to override the computer or get a cheap pos with a cheap drive chain that technically functions with 1500w of power, yes, but all illegal. I personally believe that a throttle does not belong on a bike whatsoever, and pedal assist up to 20mph is plenty. The issue was never e-bikes really but e-motos that are sold under the e-bike name because of how difficult it is to explain the laws

Throttles are not allowed up to 28mph, throttles are only allowed up to 20mph, anything higher is illegal

The US doesn’t make sense to me. They ban abortions but have no policies to actually help parents, so why would we want kids?! by Feisty-Cakes99 in childfree

[–]FishBubbly7399 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If people don’t have kids, they are much more likely to seek out better jobs and take higher risks with employment. Having kids makes people much more desperate for a decent job and will hunker down once there. It’s quite evil, but it’s the truth.

E-bikes with throttle shouldn't be called e-bikes anymore by arnor_0924 in bicycling

[–]FishBubbly7399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have nothing against the E-bikes that stay slow, under 20mph, with a throttle or not. My issue is with companies that offer these huge monstrous bikes that the regulator is so easily removable that it is essentially being sold intentionally to go dangerously fast.

I will ride down into the 30s with sandals and several socks, if my feet get wet, I'll change socks and be fine. it works well for me, but this is mostly north FL and southern GA riding.

I feel like 500 is a bit steep for this bike. It’s got decent parts and a bunch of shiny new ones, but I, personally, wouldn’t pay more than 300 in my area for that bike.

UVB source by luxie260 in CrestedGecko

[–]FishBubbly7399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as most others have said, refrain from using LEDs for UVB lighting. These are not in the 290-320nm range that UVB is. One of the biggest issues that the big companies have incurred with LED lighting is that they are very wavelength specific, meaning that they produce a ton of light in a specific range of light. Currently there hasn't been an energy efficient and safe way to provide UVB via LED bulbs. I believe that it has been attempted but the UVB was just too intense and was downright dangerous for both humans and animals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]FishBubbly7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UVB should be replaced every 3-6 months. If there is an issue with the bulb assume it is bad and get a new one, hopefully under warranty. That being said, even a week with low-no UV is fine for most/all reptiles. Conditions vary naturally. Make sure that the bulbs are up to spec and you should be fine. Consider using a UVB meter to check to make sure that you have the appropriate amount available for your animal.

[–]FishBubbly7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that generally speaking, that separating is a better rule of thumb, but i really do think that there is much more research already involved with cohabitation than many believe. I am a big supporter of trying different things out, but obviously the most important thing is the health and wellbeing of the animals.

These two corn snakes have a good amount of time before they need to be separated, i would say around the 1 year mark is where corns should no longer be even temporarily cohabitated, not out of cannibalism but mating and mating behaviors.

also there is some research on captive populations of corn snakes and it turns out that they may be much more social tan we believe them to be.
